Hey,
Back again with another old-school "Blast From The Past" for ya. Here we've got along with his manager Shinja, the one and only Hakushi.
If Shinja looks familiar to anyone it's because he was one half of The Orient Express, Sato.
Hakushi arrived in the WWF in 1995 and had a brief feud with Bret "The Hitman" Hart. In his feud with "The Hitman", he would carry around a potato sack and in it was a cut-off, wax head of Bret. He would pull the head out and show it off to the crowd, much to their obvious disapproval.
I believe Hakushi had a match with Bret at the very first In Your House event and it was a tremendous match. I remember the crowd really getting into it and were even cheering Hakushi on at one point because it was THAT good. You can check it out right here:
Here's his first appearance on Monday Night Raw facing off against Matt Hardy.
He also appeared in the 1996 Royal Rumble, but was eliminated by Bret's brother "The King of Harts" Owen Hart.
After that, he pretty much floundered in the mid-card division and was involved in a 3-way feud with Barry Horowitz and Skip of The Bodydonnas.
Hakushi even lost to Barry Horowitz thanks to interference that backfired from Skip.
He then turned babyface and was a part of of the 1995 Survivor Series and teamed up with Barry Horowitz, Marty Jannetty and Bob "Spark Plugg" Holly to take on and defeat the combination of Skip, Rad Radford, "The Doctor of Desire" Tom Pritchard and The 1-2-3 Kid.
He then had a match with Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw on an episode of WWF Superstars which he lost. After Bradshaw won, he branded Hakushi with his branding iron.
Jim Ross then reported on WWF Superstars that Hakushi was so humiliated by the branding, that he just up and left the World Wrestling Federation.
There probably is a back-story as to why Hakushi left the WWF, but what that is, remains a mystery. At least to me anyway.
He then had a brief run in ECW as Jinsei Shinzaki, but that didn't work out and he basically headed back to New Japan.
Hakushi never had an official WWF action figure, however he definitely had one as Jinsei Shinzaki as part of either a New Japan Pro Wrestling set or All Japan Pro Wrestling set. I can't find the picture of it, but I know he had one.
There is a sweet custom of him right now on eBay. Here are a few pics:
Jakks really should have contacted him for a Classic figure because I think it would've looked great.
For those that don't know, Hakushi's entrance theme was featured on WWF Full Metal - The Album. Pretty cool theme, if you haven't heard it.
I really enjoyed Hakushi's run in the WWF. It's just too bad they ended up wasting him away in a feud with Horowitz and then Skip.
He could definitely put on a great match, that's for sure. He really should have held a title during his tenure, wether it be a short reign as WWF Heavyweight or Intercontinental champion for sure. I know I wouldn't have minded it.
He was a great talent, but was wasted away by the WWF. He could have done so much more if they gave him a decent chance.
But anyway, that was a long time ago. So, there you have it. Another classic "Blast From The Past" in the books. Feel free to post your thoughts and memories of Hakushi right here!!
