As a massive Straight Edge follower (in personality as well as WF avatar) and non-alcohol advocate (I lecture people ALL THE TIME and have since before this SES thing), I've been wanting to get "STRAIGHT EDGE" tattooed on the inside of my left fore-arm so I can always see it and not let anything get to me.
It'd be my first tattoo, so I hope to be getting it done within the next 6 months or so and then getting more ink gradually and becoming one of you tattoo obsessives. I watch LA Ink and Miami Ink all the time... so I think it's safe to say I'm ready to get inked myself.

It's all in there. And I only lecture people face to face. And even then it's only with my equals, friends or family. I get asked to have a beer all the time, and was even told not to go to my friends' house for New Year because I don't drink or smoke. I want my first tattoo to be something that symbolises the lifestyle I want to lead, and I'm 100% that I want "STRAIGHT EDGE" on the inside of my left forearm.

I hate going places where people are going to drink, I hate people WHEN drunk, I hate drug addicts and don't want anything to do with people like that. It's definitely something I want to do. Thanks for the input from both of you though... definitely took onboard.

Plus... it's just going to put the 'ball firmly in my court' whenever I get asked. I can just look at my arm... and say 'no' without even feeling pressured.

I say this so often it's like I'm a broken record.
Your profile says you're 17, do me a favor and wait until your older to get tattooed. At your age I wanted stuff I look back on and feel embarrassed about. I'm not saying you'll be the same way, but it can't hurt to wait.
I was 22 when I got my first tattoo, and I am damn glad I waited that long.

I was going to wait until I was at least 18... but now you've said that I'm definitely gonna wait longer. It's still something I'm hopefully going to get done eventually.

Well, this advice is coming from a guy with a Ninja Turtle on his arm, so take it for what it's worth, lmao. AT LEAST do your research on artists, and see someone who does good work, not just okay, passable, or cheap. Tattoos are forever, pay the extra amount for something you'll be happy with for the rest of your life. Also, consider placement, and anything you may want to add on later, would that piece hinder it? How would you like to tattoo around it? What styles do you like? Traditional, Japanese, black and gray, etc - weigh all of that stuff, and keep in mind some artists are better at certain things than others. For example, some people can do lettering EXCEPTIONALLY well, and suck at Japanese art. Find an artist who suits your wants. My final piece of advice, is to get something smaller first, to get an idea of what being tattooed feels like. Some people can sit through hours of tattooing, some people can't take five minutes. It all depends on your pain tolerance - and anyone who tells you it doesn't hurt is a lying ass hole, or has nerve damage. That's not to say the pain isn't tolerable, but it varies person to person. You don't want to sit down to get "Straight Edge" and have to stop at having, "STRA" - you know?

Yeah... totally get you.
It's definitely something I want (now at least)... maybe it's just one of those temporary obsessive desires that you're never actually going to go through with.
If I still want it in x months... then I'll think about other things and near enough everything you've mentioned. That's part of the reason I posted it in here... you all have such knowledge on tattoos and the art of it, and all the other small details that I knew I'd gain some knowledge on the whole intricacy of tattooing.
Thanks to you all... really appreciate it.

I know a couple people with the heartagram tattoo that are glad they got it. Granted they are young. But Im all for getting a tattoo based on a favorite band. Hell my next is going to be a "Senses Fail" tattoo.
