After seeing Ray Ferraro's amazing work on painting the Mattel Undertaker, I looked through some various figures to see if I had any Mattel that could really benefit from a repaint. I've always been a big fan of the Batman villain Bane, and saw an old DCSH (or maybe it was just a Batman series) and noticed some really nice sculpting (chest, veins) that was lost in the plain flesh mold. I also HATED the fact that the front of his mask was painted silver and not white, like in the comics. I did a little research on washing with paints, and thought I'd give it a try. I gave the figure a new flesh tone complete with wash, highlighted the veins to appear as if Venom was coursing through them, and painted the Venom pump silver. I was really unhappy with the legs, so I used a DA crotch piece and legs, cut the boots off and replaced them with the boots from the Bane fig, and used sculpey to make the legs fit the boots and to sculpt the belt. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. Rate/bash/ignore as you please. The figure before: The figure after:

Anyways this turned out really nice man, the only thing I can complain about are the legs maybe being a little too skinny but it still looks good as Banes upper body has always been larger. The new paint looks great, nice job on the skintone the figure looks more realistic now and not so cartoony.

Sweet dude! I also am a big fan of Bane, and you've really done him justice here! I don't think his legs are too skinny at all. Nice paint. Nice sculpting. 10/10
Excellent!

You corrected my biggest issue with the DCU figures, which is the lack of ball-jointed hips. Great job there. It looks as if it could have been sold that way. Very convincing! It's also really surprising how much of a difference fixing the mask color makes. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to do a green-skinned "Batman & Robin" version?

I agree, when I was looking at it as a WIP without the top, it looked a lot more proportionate. Also, this gives you a better picture of the wash. I love taking my pics without the flash on, but I lose a little bit of detail.

I like the was, but not the leg swap. I've seen people do a leg swap with the DCD Knightfall Bane and that looked very good.
