Recently I have been reflecting on what a great collection of figures I have. Mainly CS, and only need about 30 or so to have all CS figures (except rare exclusives such as 1/100's etc).
The RA CS series really are the greatest wrestling figure line ever. When Jakks gets it right, they're unstopable. Need proof, just look at the Montreal Screw Job 2-pack for example, both figures and accessories are amazing. Many of Jakks work are like this set, amazing looking figures. And the depth of the line as well, when I started collecting I would never have imagined to get figures of all the character that I have, but Jakks have done a great job at getting a wide range of wrestlers from different era's and feds.
However I do agree with most, there are times when Jakks lets themselves down, but as I stated, when they get it right nothing can touch them.
My plan was spend the rest of the year trying to complete my CS collection which to me was a sad moment, then end of my figure collecting.
However, with the recent developments in TNA (who knows how long that will was), and the Legends of the Ring line, things are looking up again. I'm not sure how many series the LOTR line will be able to last without WWE's licensing rights, however, initially it is very exciting.
If we were to get an old school Scott Steiner to go with CS Ric, US Express Mike Rotundo, Surfer Sting, Randy Savage, Black Jacks, Von Erichs. Wow, any of these figures would be amazing and add extra life to my CS collection.
Anyways, my point is, I was not excited at all about Mattell, I only want to collect one style of figure. When I saw the proto's I was even less excited. They may have better scale, and an extra tattoo or piece detail here and there, but the scans are poor IMO, and overall the figures look weak. But with the TNA contract and LOTR (which fingers crossed are in RA form), I'm excited for collecting again.
