After the Toy Biz TNA line died and the awesome Japanese wrestling figures stopped being made I lost intrest in collecting and sold off pretty much everything I had.
Whilst I continued collecting other things I never expected to get back into wrestling figures and certanly not WWE ones because I thought 95% of Jakks stuff were awful from the neck down.
Then I read of the license change and thought I'd have a look at what the protos were like just to see if someone else could do any better.
The initial pics didn't really convince me but then about a fortnight ago I had to put some new stock away at work which included the first Basic Assortment and I was VERY suprised at the difference in quality compared to Jakks so after a further bit of research I ordered the Elite series 1 Undertaker & Rey Mysterio which I got last Saturday.
To say I'm impressed is an understatement,
The scaling is without question the best on any WWE line, it's like the R3 concept but done well......can't wait to see an Elite Series Big Show or Great Khali!
The body parts so far seem a lot more varied and far better proportioned, even Mark Henry has been given his own mold = Impressive!
Aside from the obvious ones like CM Punk's Pepsi & Cobra tats all body art appears to be present on each wrestler and actually bears some resemblance to the real thing instead of being a load of random black squiggles like 'Takers tats usually were on his Jakks figs.
There doesn't appear to be any details left off the back of figures either which again is a far cry from the Jakks era and the poseability on the Elites is excellent..........no freaky looking DA style figures to be seen anywhere!
The only issues I had were that 'Takers head could have been painted better because I've seen a repaint that proves the scan is fine and his coat required dunking in hot water to soften it enough to remove but that's pretty much it.
If these initial assortments are any indication of what Mattel's tenure is going to be like then I can't wait to see what the figures are like a year or so down the line when they've had chance to listen to some customer feedback.
Next up for me is the WM Heritage Series Stone Cold
