World Wrestling Athletics & WrestlingFigs.com present...Night #4 - Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 A highlight video aired, showing the best moments of the first three nights of Wrestlympics. Fireworks blasted off the stage as Joey Styles and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed everyone to the Wrestlympics 2010 finale, live from Vancouver, B.C. They ran down the night's card, and promised plenty of surprises along the way.
To the surprise of the crowd, The "Rated R Superstar" Edge made his way down to the ring, already dressed in his ring attire. The crowd was on their feet, cheering him on. "The All-American American" Jack Swagger made his way down to the ring, and it appeared that our Two Falls, Triple Threat match was underway! Swagger, who had recently fallen out of grace with the WWA Universe, was met with a chorus of boos. Finally, tthe WWA Pound-for-Pound Heavyweight Champion of the World, "The Real Deal" Brock Lesnar made his way down to the ring, and the crowd erupted. With all three men in the ring, our triple threat championship match was underway!
WWA WORLD & HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS / TWO FALLS, TRIPLE THREAT MATCH: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Edge vs. Jack Swagger
First Fall: WWA Heavyweight Championship MatchOur main-event-turned-opening-match started out fast and furious, with the champion taking it both of his challenges in the early going. When Swagger started to take the advantage, Edge and Lesnar started to team up on the "All-American American," leaving him beaten down and out on the math when Brock took advantage of Edge's sense of security by planting the former Heavyweight champion to the mat with a spinebuster. Lesnar went to work on Edge with submission after submission, mixing in tough strikes and kicks to keep "The Rated R Superstar" grounded. Lesnar seemed to have the upper-hand on Edge throughout the time that Swagger was recuperating on the outside, but he could not pick up the victory, as Edge slipped out of every attempt to hit the F-5 and was able to slither to the ropes and save himself from losing the first fall in this match. Swagger finally regained his composure on the outside, but did not immediately climb into the ring, seeing that Lesnar was in firm control in the ring. Brock bounced Edge off the ropes and Edge attempted to reverse his fortunes with a cross body, but Lesnar caught him, throwing him up onto his shoulders. Lesnar then planted Edge to the mat with the F-5! With Edge on the mat, Swagger finally climbed back into the ring and struck, knocking Lesnar from the ring. Jack then climbed on Edge and hooked the leg, stealing the pinfall victory!
Winner via pinfall: Jack Swagger (NEW Heavyweight Champion) - (10:22)
Second Fall: WWA Pound-for-Pound Championship of the WorldSwagger stood up and celebrated his victory in the first fall, but little did he know, he had angered a monster. Lesnar immediately slid into the ring and grabbed Swagger, locking him in the Rear Naked Choke! He pulled Jack to the mat in the center of the ring and the new Heavyweight Champion tapped out almost immediately! "The Real Deal" climbed to his feet and grabbed his last remaining championship belt, draping it over his shoulder and standing in the center of the ring. Lesnar was fuming, but lucky to escape with one of his championships in tow.
Winner via submission: Brock Lesnar (13:12)
Matt Striker walked out on the stage as Lesnar made his way up the ramp. "Brock, congrats on retaining your WWA Pound-for-Pound World Title, but your night is not over yet. As you know, the winner of the Wrestlympics tournament will be given a title shot, and I think there is no better time than the present. So, in tonight's main event, you will defend against the winner of the Wrestlympics tournament! Thank you!"
While the ring was cleared, a highlight video aired, showing the path that CWE's Shawn Michaels and WWA's John Morrison took to get to the Wrestlympics tournament semifinals.
WRESTLYMPICS TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS: John Morrison (WWA) vs. Shawn Michaels (CWE)John Morrison made his way to the ring first to kick off the semifinals of the Wrestlympics tournament, and the crowd cheered him on. "HBK" Shawn Michaels made his way to the ring, and the crowd filled the arena with boos. As the match began, they immediately began chanting "Go back home!" at HBK! They were apparently willing to accept him against other company's stars, but not the WWA! The match, featuring two men whose careers have taken similar paths - starting as tag team stars before moving on to singles glory - was a wrestling clinic. Each man showed off his offensive arsenal, including some impressive aerial moves from both the "Wednesday Night Delight" and the "Heart Break Kid." It became clear at about the 12 minute mark that this match might go down to the wire, with both men attempting their signature kicks during the match and neither being able to connect. In the final minute, Morrison was able to hit the Moonlight Drive on HBK, but the CWE star kicked out just before the three count! Morrison continued on the offensive for the final minutes, but the time ran out on the match, and it went to mediation.
Backstage, Jonathon Coachman introduced tonight's judges - three men that competed on this weekend - "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Bret "Hitman" Hart, and John Bradshaw Layfield! After their deliberations were complete, JBL presented Coach with the envelope. Coach revealed that the decision was the closest in WWA history as it came down to just one point seperating the two men. "The winner, moving on to the finals, in a split decision... is John Morrison."
Winner via split decision: John Morrison (15:00)
After the decision, Morrison leaped up on the turnbuckles and posed, before climbing out of the ring and celebrating with the fans. Meanwhile, Shawn Michaels threw a temper tantrum in the ring, slamming his fists down on the mat. He screamed at the camera, blaming the judges for his loss, saying they were jealous of him. He promised that he would be back before long.
While the ring was cleared, a highlight video aired, showing the path that SCW's Shannon Moore and WWA's Paul Burchill took to get to the Wrestlympics tournament semifinals.
WRESTLYMPICS TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS: Paul Burchill (WWA) vs. Shannon Moore (SCW)The former contender for the WWA Championship, Paul Burchill made his way to the ring first, looking to get back to the title scene later tonight. The crowd was clearly on Burchill's side as his opponent made his way to the ring, receiving a lukewarm reaction. While the match was not quite the match its predecessor was, "the Ripper" and the "Prince of Punk" still put on a show for the crowd. Moore flew around the ring with quick strikes and aerial offense while Burchill battled back with his strong style, hard-hitting approach. It was Moore's tendency to rely on the top rope which led to his downfall, as he climbed to the top rope, but was caught by Burchill in mid-move. Grabbing him by the throat, Burchill pulled him toward himself and then planted him to the mat with the C-4! Burchill then hooked the leg for a pinfall victory.
Winner via pinfall: Paul Burchill (8:18)
As Burchill walked to the back, a graphic featuring the tournament bracket appeared on the screen, with Burchill and Morrison moving to the finals simultaneously. It then flashed and their pictures appeared, with Brock Lesnar holding the Pound-for-Pound World title behind them. There is still plenty more to come tonight!
A highlight video aired, hyping the feuds that have built up to the next match-up, for WWA's Cruiserweight Championship.
WWA CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Santino Marella (c) w/Beth Phoenix vs. A.J. Styles vs. Evan Bourne vs. Shane Helms"It's Time" hit over the speakers and the former champion, Shane "The Hurricane" Helms made his way to the ring first, the crowd booing him all the way. "The Phenomenal One" A.J. Styles made his way to the ring next, and the crowd got even angrier. Evan "Air" Bourne ran down to the ring next, as the fans finally found someone to cheer. Styles and Helms immediately attacked Bourne from behind as he climbed in the ring and started to beat him down to the mat. Finally, the champion, and his personal trainer, Beth Phoenix, made their way to the ring as Marella came in to help even the sides. Santino and Bourne cleared their adversaries from the ring, and it did not take long for Bourne to break the truce, planting Marella with a tornado DDT. The match devolved from there into a brawl as all four men were in the ring throughout the match. Styles and Bourne went to battle while Helms and Santino continued their feud. After throwing Bourne from the ring, Styles went to help his friend, Helms, take care of Santino, which eventualyl turned in to Styles hitting Santino with the Styles Clash, followed almost immediately by Helms hitting the Vertebreaker, and then Bourne, surprisingly, coming off the top rope with the Shooting Star Press! While Bourne did that, Styles dumped Helms from the ring. Styles and Bourne started to go at it, while Beth pulled Santino out of the ring with the referee distracted. Styles got the upperhand and set up Bourne for the Clash, but Evan reversed mid-move, hitting Styles with a hurricanrana. He then leaped up on the top rope and nailed Styles with the Shooting Star Press! Bourne went for the pin, and Helms tried to break it up, but he was a moment too late as Evan Bourne captured the Cruiserweight Championship!
Winner via pinfall: Evan Bourne (NEW Cruiserweight Champion) - (11:24)
After the match, Bourne climbed out of the ring and grabbed the Cruiserweight Championship. He had a momentary staredown with Beth Phoenix, who then walked over and gave him a hug! Bourne then climbed into the ring and held the title up over his head in celebration. Meanwhile, Santino saw Beth hug Bourne, and was now confronting her on the outside. Santino grabbed Beth's hand and walked her to the back, while Bourne looked on confused, before he headed to the back himself.
Backstage, Jonathon Coachman, WWA-NC's new interviewer, caught up with the new Heavyweight Champion, Jack Swagger. Swagger said he was looking forward to facing some new competition now that Edge and Brock Lesnar would be receiving no rematches against him. Coach then asked why Swagger tapped so quickly when he was locked in the Rear Naked Choke, and the champion pushed him to the ground! Swagger walked away, fuming.
WWA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Jeri-Show (c) vs. World's Greatest Tag TeamThe World's Greatest Tag Team made their way to the ring first, receiving a mixed reaction. Jeri-Show made their way to the ring next, and the crowd reigned down on them with boos. This match was rather uneventful, and the most interesting part of the match is that after Shelton Benjamin started the match and then tagged in Haas in the first few minutes, they did not allow Benjamin back into the match, focusing their assault on Haas throughout the match. With Show in domination over Haas, Jericho knocked Shelton off the ring apron, allowing Big Show to plant "the World's Greatest Athlete" with a chokeslam. Jericho then locked on the Walls of Jericho while Big Show stood guard, keeping Benjamin out of the ring. Haas struggled to the ropes, but was forced to tap out, and the champions retained.
Winners via submission: Jeri-Show (8:48)
Backstage, Matt Striker was talking with the Real Man's Man. He said that he was first in line for a title shot now that Swagger, Edge, and Lesnar could not fight each other. The Legacy, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes walked into the office. Orton presented Striker with a contract which stated that "when" he beat Lance Storm later tonight, he would receive Storm's End of the Line Gauntlet title shot. "You're in charge, tonight, Matt, make this happen." Striker said he would agree to it, but Orton would have to get Storm to sign it himself. Orton started to storm off, but Striker stopped him. "Remember, Randy, blood is as good as ink."
WRESTLYMPICS TOURNAMENT FINALS: John Morrison (WWA) vs. Paul Burchill (WWA)Surprisingly, the Wrestlympics tournament ended with two WWA stars competing in the finals. The odds were just as good that the opposite would hold true, but as Morrison and Burchill made their way to the ring, it became clear that on this night at least, fans wanted to see Morrison pick up the victory. This match was another exciting, back-and-forth bouth with Morrison using quick strikes and speed against Burchill's strong style. This match appeared to be going to the wire once again as neither man seemed to be gaining the advantage. Finally at around the ten-minute mark, Morrison was able to hit Burchill with his springboard drop kick. He then went for Star Ship Pain, but Burchill moved causing him to crash and burn. Burchill pulled himself to his feet and grabbed Morrison, pulling him to the center of the ring before planting him with a Jackhammer for the pinfall victory.
Winner via pinfall: Paul Burchill (11:14)
Backstage, Coach caught up with Edge as he was starting to leave the arena. He asked him where he planned on taking his career from here, now that he couldn't get a title shot against Jack Swagger or Brock Lesnar. Edge shook his head, saying he simply didn't know and then left through the back door.
WWA WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP: Jay Roclass (c) w/Maryse vs. ChristianMuch like for his former partner, Edge, earlier in the night, this was the last title shot for Christian against Jay Roclass. Christian made his way to the ring first, and the crowd got on their feet. Roclass and Maryse made their way to the ring, with a mixed reaction of primarily boos reigning down on the duo. Roclass and Christian continued to show why theirs is one of the most exciting feuds in WWA as they put on another exciting match-up which, like other matches today, went down to the wire of that 15-minute time limit. Roclass grounded Christian throughout the match by working on his right leg with holds and stiff strikes. Whenever Christian would start to gain some momentum, Roclass knocked him back down with a stiff kick to the inner thigh. Roclass seemed to have the offensive advantage throughout the bout, but he looked anything but dominant as Christian continued to kick out or break free from any move or hold he performed. Roclass eventually grew frustrated and let his guard down, allowing Christian to take control of the match. Christian planted Roclass to the mat with an inverted DDT and then began climbing the ropes, but his leg began cramping as he got to the top rope. This allowed Roclass to get to his feet and then run up the ropes, hitting Christian with a huge belly-to-belly suplex off the top rope! As both men slowly climbed to their feet, Roclass again hit Christian again with a stiff kick to the leg, collapsing him into the corner .Roclass then pulled Christian out into the center of the ring and planted him on his head with the STO. He then hooked the leg for a huge pinfall victory. Maryse climbed into the ring, and in the ultimate show of disrespect, the pair locked lips in the center of the ring, standing right over the fallen Christian. The crowd continued to boo them as they walked up the ramp.
Winner via pinfall: Jay Roclass (12:53)
A video package highlighting the long-standing feud between Randy Orton and Lance Storm played.
The serious Canadian, Lance Storm, made his way to the ring and the crowd got on their feet, immediately beginning a "Thank You, Lance" chant as he climbed into the ring. "It's a New Day" hit over the speakers and Cody Rhodes made his way down to the ring, carrying Orton's contract in his hand. Rhodes offered Storm the contract. "This whole match can be avoided if you just sign this contract now. You can go out on top, and Randy can have his title shot." Storm thought about it and then shook his head, grabbing the mic from Rhodes. "No!" Cody said he was sorry that Storm felt that way. "Voices" hit over the speakers and Randy Orton started to walk down the ring. Just then, Ted DiBiase, Jr. jumped in the ring behind Storm and took him down from behind. Rhodes and DiBiase started beating down Storm. DiBiase and Rhodes grabbed Storm, holding him up while Orton climbed into the ring, getting his sadistic grin on his face. Before they could do anything, "Basic Thuganomics" hit over the speakers and the Playmakers ran down to the ring. Cena and MVP cleared DiBiase and Rhodes from the ring, leaving Orton alone with Storm, and the match was finally underway.
GRUDGE MATCH: Lance Storm vs. Randy OrtonWhile Orton did not have anyone to hold Storm up while he punted him, the damage had already been done as Storm was down on the mat as the match began. Orton grabbed the microphone that was still in the ring and held it up to hit Storm with it, but the referee took it away from him. While he brought the microphone back to the announce table, Orton leaned over and bit Storm's forehead! Storm crawled away, gripping his forehead. When he pulled his hand away, blood began flowing from his temple. Smirking, Orton grabbed his clipboard and walked to the corner, rubbing the paper along Storm's head. Storm then grabbed Orton behind him and pulled him head-first into the top turnbuckle. Storm broke free, and despite being a bloody mess, immediately began taking it to Orton, turning the tables on his adversary. The crowd got behind Storm as he took control of the match, again starting the "Thank You, Lance!" chants. The two men went back-and-forth for several minutes, each with a reversal or counter for the other's primary offensive maneuvers. Finally, Orton seemed to be in control, setting up Storm for the punt, but at the last minute, Lance moved. He pulled himself to his feet and then went for the superkick on Orton, but he dodged it and then planted Storm to the mat with the RKO! Orton then hooked the leg for the pinfall victory.
Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton (6:18)
Orton climbed out of the ring, grabbing his contract. Matt Striker walked down the ramp and Orton handed him the contract. Striker announced to the crowd that, with the victory and Storm's "signature," Randy Orton is the new No. 1 Contender for the World Championship. Orton started to celebrate, but Lance Storm pulled himself up in the ring during the spectacle. Storm then ran to the ropes and dove over the top, hitting both Orton and Striker with a suicide dive! The bloodied Storm got to his feet and grabbed Orton's clipboard, breaking it in half on his knee. Orton started to get up and Storm hit him with a punt kick to the face of his own. Storm threw his hand in the air as the crowd chanted him on while he walked to the back.
A video package, highlighting Paul Burchill's road through the Wrestlympics tournament aired, also including his multiple failed attempts to capture the championship in the past.
MAIN EVENT | WWA POUND-FOR-POUND CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Paul Burchill"The Ripper" made his way to the ring for what promised to be one of the most interesting main events we have seen in WWA in quite some time: the long-time challenger against the most dominant champion. While the crowd popped for Burchill, they got to their feet as the Pound-for-Pound World Champ made his way to the ring once again. Lesnar bumped fists with Burchill as the bell ring, and the match was underway. It was nothing pretty -- a battle of power against power, brute strength on display as both men tried to throw each other around the ring. Sadly for Burchill, Lesnar had the most pure strength and he was the one who took advantage in the early going before Burchill could change his strategy. Eventually, Burchill started to use the technical side of his arsenal to get back into the match. Lesnar got back in control and lifted Burchill up for the F-5, but "The Ripper" reversed it in mid-move and sent Lesnar into the corner -- directly into the referee. Just as Lesnar got to his feet, CWE's Shawn Michaels ran down to the ring again! HBK got in the ring and nailed Lesnar with Sweet Chin Music! Lesnar fell back and Burchill caught him, planting him to the mat with a Jackhammer! Michaels bailed from the ring as a new referee ran down, with Burchill pinning Lesnar. He counted -- 1, 2, ...3! Burchill did it! Lesnar kicked out of the pinfall, but a moment too late!
Winner via pinfall: Paul Burchill (NEW Pound-for-Pound World Champion)
Burchill climbed out of the ring himself, grabbing the title as the new referee held his hand in the air. Lesnar fumed in the ring, looking around for HBK, who stood on the stage holding a microphone. Lesnar climbed to his feet as Michaels declared: "I told you I'd be back, and I think I just earned my invite." Michaels dropped his microphone and left hastily to the back as Lesnar started to run up the stage. Burchill returned to the ring, holding his title in the air as the show faded to a close.
