I thought this might have warranted its own thread; it's basically a whole new fed, however, I'll keep all future updates in my info thread.
While the WWA's Northern Combat brand celebrates the Wrestlympics in Vancouver, B.C., the company had representatives in Nashville, Tenn. for another major event: the announcement of expansion.
WWA's second brand will debut next month, and, as was announced today in Nashville: WWA-Southern Warfare! Thought its name is similar to Northern Combat, WWA-SW will be a completely different style wrestling company. Southern Warfare will not focus on weight divisions, but rather compelling match-ups and storylines.
Once-a-month, WWA-SW will go live on pay-per-view starring some of the best entertainers in the business. As was announced today, the company will, too, be commissioned by a former competitor, but WWA-SW's commissioner may have a bit more "personality" than Dean Malenko.
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin was the first man introduced at the WWA-SW press conference, announcing his presence as the new commissioner in style, saying that he will take the company to the next level. "I may not be active in the ring anymore, but I can still raise hell. And that's just what we're gonna do each and every month, starting on March 7."
The former World Champion went on to announce that WWA-SW will start with two titles - the Southern Heavyweight Championship and the United States Championship. On this day, Austin could announce the first main event, with the Southern Heavyweight Championship on the line, but first, he announced one-half of the commentary team, the legend Dusty Rhodes!
"The American Dream" made his way out the podium and spoke about his excitement to return to wrestling on a national stage. "It's great to be back on the grand stage, and I am excited to work with Mr. Austin and Mr. McMahon as we move forward with this process. I promise you, this is going to be an exciting show, on par with, if not BETTER than, Northern Combat."
Austin got back on the stage, saying that he could promise that WWA-SW would be better than NC, and it's because of the caliber of stars he is bringing in. With that, he announced the first of the two competitors in the WWA Southern Heavyweight Championship main event for March 7 - Dave Batista.
"The Animal" made his way out to the podium, announcing his intent to take home Austin's Smoking Skull Championship on the 7th. "It really doesn't matter who else you have, because that belt is going home with me. I have been ignored for too long."
Before Batista could continue, the lights went out in the conference room. When they flicked back on, the legendary Undertaker stood next to Batista. A staredown ensued, and finally the Taker spoke.
"Batista... You are not the only one who has been ignored for too long. I think people may have forgotten about me. But it's about time that changed. Batista, on March 7, you.. and the rest of these people... will know my name is the Lord of Darkness."
He continued, leaving Batista with three short words: "Rest... in... Peace."
Austin thanked both of them for appearing, and said that the contract would be signed momrentarily, officially declaring that the two of them will compete for the Southern Heavyweight title. Austin, Batista, and Undertaker left together.
Dusty Rhodes got back on the podium and announced that on March 7, we will also see a four-man tournament to see who will face the winner of the Undertaker/Batista match when WWA-SW returns to PPV in April. Two men have been signed for that tournament, and one was at the show tonight and that was Jeff Jarrett!
"The Chosen One" made his way out onto the stage. He thanked Dusty and the media for the warm welcome. "You know, when I founded TNA years ago, I never thought I'd step foot in another company's ring again, but when I was invited to become a part of WWA-Southern Warfare, I knew it was a great opportunity. I'm not sure who else will be competing in this tournament, but I know that I will be there, and I plan on winning the tournament and the Southern Heavyweight Championship."
When Jarrett concluded, Austin emerged from the backroom with the signed contract, revealing that the match was official. He then announced that while they were signing, he received a phone call confirming the other competitor for the tournament, and he can now announce that Jeff Jarrett will compete on March 7 against none other than... "The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy!
Jarrett looked impressed with the signing, while Austin thanked everyone for attending. The conference ended with a video highlighting the best of the WWA's Southern Heavyweight Title contenders - Batista and the Undertaker.
