I was at my toys r us helping my mom look for a birthday gift. So i was checking the wrestling aisle and see this guy on his iphone just checking listings on ebay and putting all the mattel and jakks stuff into his cart. So i wanted to mess with him, i grabbed a CS 6 animal which he was looking at online. This guy goes following me around all the store and then i tell him 5 bucks for it, and he paid me to just give to him. Great Day.

lol, that sounds pretty cool. scalpers are a pain to the collecting community imo, however, it is a good way of making money.

I hate scalpers, when I used to collect the UFC figures, I was at TRU, and they had just stocked up a few boxes of UFC 1, so they had 2 of every figure. I was with my g/f and her mom, so we were walking around and I was going to pick them up after. As I begin walking to the UFC/WWE aisle, I see a guy coming out of it carrying all of them and on the phone telling someone to post them on ebay that he'll add pictures after. This pissed me off a lot because I wanted to pick up 2 of the guys and now they had none.

I'm positive you're lying. On average lately, it looks like the Animal Figure goes for maybe $16-20 tops. There's no way in hell this guy would give you $5 and then go buy the figure, totaling him up at the least $17.99 plus tax after giving you the fin. Especially if he was looking up prices off ebay.

^ Scalpers are people who buy a ton of rare figures or any popular ones so that they can then sell them for a profit. Say they find a hornswoggle fig when it first came out. That fig was really popular so they would find like 2 or 3 of them and then buy them all for $30 total and then go on ebay or anywhere to sell them for like $30+ each. I guess it is a good idea but it is kinda ed up for people who can't then find that fig because some bastard bough all of them.. But to your story, that is kinda scary that he was following you. What the hell did he look like..? I would have told him off..

Mattel figs aren't even worth more than retail on the secondary market, so what's the point?

I know of a few scalpers at the local flea market. there is one guy who told me he was going to be getting the hogan/andre pack and he wanted $35.00 for it and told me to come back the next week to pick it up later that day i saw him buying it at big lots for $10.00

Mattel figs aren't even worth more than retail on the secondary market, so what's the point? That's what I'm finding very strange about the scalpers on here. Mattel figures are already very expensive, even the online stores are barely charging more than retail. So are there really people on ebay that are going to pay the kjtoys prices?

Seeing as Mattel is mass produced, it's kinda pointless to be scalping them because they won't be worth jack in 10 years. That's just like someone scalping BCA figures 10 years ago, and look what they're worth now. At the time, people were going crazy for those figures too.
