If you charge the price you paid + shipping then what about your gas, the packing materials, your time, etc... I would like to get an age check on the people who are so against someone buying something to sell and make money on. You obviously don't own your own home and have to pay a mortgage. You obviously don't have kids and have to pay for the million little things that come up let alone the major things that come up.
So let's hear from all the people on here that are condemning people for trying to make some extra money. Let's hear how old you are and how you still live at home with your parents.
Personally I try to not charge more than $5 over what I paid but if something gets bid up on Ebay i'm certainly not going to refund the difference because it's just too much money and I want to be a nice guy. I also would never dis-respect another member of this board, like a lot of other people on here do, because I don't know their situation and what they are going through.

That's what I'm finding very strange about the scalpers on here. Mattel figures are already very expensive, even the online stores are barely charging more than retail. So are there really people on ebay that are going to pay the kjtoys prices? is there a reason why you have to bring my name up? I have very good prices on ebay and i give members even better deals.. I didn't mean you. I meant the idiot one on ebay (who I think steals your pictures from here) that was charging $35 for single figures. Bob Scalpers are people that want to open a wrestling figure store but don't have the know-how, money or ability to do that or to get a real job. So instead they try to make a living ripping people off. And I think the Mattel figures are making it harder for them, because the retail prices are already a fair bit higher than Jakks. Which is why, if you want to make a living selling wrestling figures, you're better off doing it properly rather than buying from stores at retail prices and selling at inflated prices people aren't willing to pay. Oh, and I'm 26 and I live with my girlfriend in a rented apartment. |

i really don't understand why people hate scalpers so much. I mean, lets think about this, have you EVER in your life bought something and resold it?
and thier are scalpers who sell matchbox cars, other figures,. heck even zhu zhu pets, so it has nothing to do with wanting to own a wrestling store
and pc8...that ebay kj and the one on here are the same person
and he can charge whatever the heck he wants

I am 27 and own a home, the thing I dont like is when the "scalpers" work at the stores or get there the minute the store opens the product never gets a chance to get to the shelves. I used to work at a KB toys and this one guy would come in before we could even get the boxes out and want to tear them open. It was sad when the kids came in looking for Rey or Jeff Hardy and couldnt get them because the guy down the mall owned his own store and was selling the figs for three times the amount. When we would get the shipment I had an idea of what the scalper wanted so I would hide them on the top shelf so when a kid came in I would have it for them. The scalper never got a Hornswoggle from my store but 10 kids did for x-mas
I have also bought an extra of one product to resell later down the line hoping the value increases. There is a difference between buying 1 extra figure and 10 extra of the same figures.

i think the main reason people hate scalpers is becuase they always seem to get to the items they want first....

Yes I've picked things up for others and charged them cost + shipping, but no I have never bought anything with the idea of making a profit on it. Everyone here knows how I feel about scalping so I won't get into that argument. The problem isn't just the scalpers, but the people buying for the scalpers.I don't beleive in scalping so I don't buy from scalpers. If I can't find it in the store or have a friend find it for me then I just won't get it plain and simple. And Bob I'm not trying to start anything with you, but I'm a 43 injured UPSer with a wife and 11 year old daughter and to me that arguement about gas, time, etc is never a valid argument. The way I see it is there is no time, gas, etc...because I'm at the store looking at the figures already for myself. So if I see something that I know someone else is looking for what extra effort is it for me to pick it up? As for shipping supplies Priority mail boxes are free and there's always newspaper or plastic bags in the house I can pack the box with. |

I worked at a TRU and right freaking next door was a little shop called "Kitty World" that sold collectibles, Pokemon cards..all that stuff. Every hour, the owner's son would go in and check. Feel bad for the poor kids that went to TRU looking for Rey not finding one and have to beg their parents to pay $19 for one next door. |

Wow interesting story. I have a weird but funny one. A few years ago I'm guessing 2005ish (When the first Papa Shango figure came out) I went to Wal-Mart to see what they had and I saw a kid probably no older than 11. Bending the tops of the Cards. I was watching him the whole time I asked "Why are you doing that?" he replied "The guy from the flea market won't buy them if the packages are bent I'm going to come back tonight!" I couldnt help but Laugh I guess the anti scalping. Sucks for any Moc Collectors that needed those figures and I'd think maybe illegal.

Im 26, I had (paid for now) a car payment. I pay insurance, rent, food, electric bill, waterbill and cable. Not to mention I work for $8.50/hr and yes I dont like scalpers and no I dont buy stuff just to resale and make extra money. Im not a business nor do I have a business license. If you want to give someone a better chance of finding something then leave it on the shelf where they can find it. Plain and simple

There's no reason to hate on people trying to make a little money. I'm a part time custodian, lucky to get maybe 20 hours a week during the school year and a full time student. If I can go to Toys R Us in between class, and pick up a money figure or two (like I'd do when the UFC figures hit) then I have a little spending money for the weekend.
The fact that most of us specialize in wrestling figures should be used to your advantage. We know what's good and what's not, why not use your passion or hobby to make some money on the side? People bid whatever they're willing to, and I feel no remorse for someone that would bid highly on one of my items, because they bid whatever they figure is fair.
If you know something is worth money and can benefit from it, I don't see the foul at all. The figure goes to someone who is willing to pay what they want for it, and in turn profit is made. There's no reason anyone should hate on people like that.

I didnt know what a scalper was until i read one of the replies to this thread which explained it all. When i was younger, i saw one on TRU and he was just looking at the figs, and i mean all of them while i wanted a look but he wouldnt move so i couldnt look. And this was a grown man too, not some teenager like i am now. What a mother f***er.

Back when I was single and working I was the same way as you to the point where I would only ask for what it cost and I would cover the shipping. Now that I have 4 kids and just started my third year of being unemployed I look at things differently. Now if someone needs something and I know one of my local stores has it i'll run out and pick it up for them but ask for a little bit extra in return. I wasn't going to the store so it was a trip that I wouldn't have been making and it helps them out without having to pay a lot extra on Ebay. If someone asked me to get something and told me they were out of work like me or couldn't afford the little bit extra then I would pick it up for them anyway but I would wait until I was going there anyway and just ask them to cover the price +shipping. Everyone is entitled their own opinion and to voice that opinion but I think we should do it in a respectful way. Bob |
