So it's been a little over a month since Mattel took over the WWE figure world and all I can say is that it was defiantly a month that changed the wrestling figure world forever.
I noticed on here that no one really compared Mattel vs. Jakks and being that everyone has basically already showed the same figures the same way over the past month...I wanted to show mine, but in a different fashion. So what better way to do so than by having a past vs. present posting...Mattel vs. Jakks...oh it's on brother!
First Up...The Mattel Rings!
The Mattel rings are probably the best inexpensive wrestling rings that I've ever purchased. They are way more durable than the Jakks Stunt Action rings. The ring posts are pretty thick and the ring ropes are probably the best ring ropes ever made even out beating Jakks's Real Scale Ring ropes.
The Ropes are a lot stronger than any rope that I've ever seen before. But, the ropes aren't even the best part, the best part is that the ring mat is actually spring-like.
If the these $15 rings are this great...I can only imagine what a Mattel Real Scale Ring would look like!
And now onto the Superstars...first up...Santino Marella!
The Mattel head scan totally kills Jakks...it actually looks like Santino. Plus, we finally have a Santino figure with the now infamous Uni-Brow.
As you can see here the Mattel and Jakks Santino right arm tattoos are pretty much the same. But, Mattel slightly beats out Jakks here with just a smidge more detail.
Mattel nailed Santino's left arm tattoos perfectly. Jakks, however, didn't fully add Santino's left arm tattoos and stopped halfway for some reason.
I've always said that Santino's back tattoo was damn cool. I never understood why he went to an attire that covered it up (although his current attire is awesome).
As you can tell here both Mattel and Jakks did excellent jobs with Santino's back Lion tattoo. Mattel's of course is partially covered up (like it should be based on his current attire) and Jakks is openly exposed (just like it was when Santino wore that attire). I'd have to say that Jakks back Lion tattoo stands out more than Mattels.
Now onto the 2nd Women to ever enter the Royal Rumble..."The Glamazon" Beth Phoenix!
I never did get a Jakks Beth Phoenix simply because I never really collected Diva figures. But, being that this is the first Diva figure that Mattel has ever made...I see a bright future ahead because Mattel nailed this one!
Next up...my only Straight Edge figure in my 10 years of collecting...CM Punk!
This is a figure that I at first didn't want. But, when I saw it at Toys R Us in person...I just had to get it. I think Mattel's Elite CM Punk head scan and tattoos blows the Jakks CM Punk way out of the water! Not to mention, Mattel made a CM Punk figure with those awesome kickers. Jakks would rarely ever make a CM Punk figure with detailed kickers.
Mattel's CM Punk tattoos are defiantly the best tattoos that I've ever seen on a figure. Sometimes due to the lack of detail on Jakk's tattoos, they would look just like scribble. Mattel's CM Punk is clearly the winner here.
Next up..."HBK" Shawn Michaels!
Mattel's Shawn Michaels...needs some work. Sure it's pretty detailed, but the orange looking hair just totally kills the figure. The head scan is okay, but missing HBK's beard. Mattel also kinda picked a lackluster attire. I've never really been a fan of those color pants; I've always found them to be bland. Clearly, Jakks HBK is the better of the two here. I think Mattel needs to get a new head scan for HBK, mostly just fix his hair...Shawn mainly and currently where's his hair like the Jakks figure shown in the picture.
He is the best in the world at what he does...Chris Jericho!
Mattel's Chris Jericho is damn good. Not only is it in my favorite Chris Jericho attire, but the figure just bleeds detail. Jakks Chris Jericho is damn good here too. They both represent who Chris Jericho is...the best in the world. There are no winners here...it's simply a draw.
Next...1/3rd of Legacy...Ted DiBiase!
Mattel nailed this Ted DiBiase figure. The head scan is "Priceless" totally "buying out" Jakks.
The tight designs are basically the same...really no difference.
Next up...another member of Legacy...Cody Rhodes!
I've always wanted a Cody Rhodes in this attire. Jakks did make one, but he was in all black expect for his bright blue boots...so I passed. Mattel defiantly nailed Cody here. The head scan is okay, it could be better, but Jakks head scan isn't that great either. The detail on the Mattel Cody Rhodes knee pads and tights are excellent.
The only thing I wish Mattel had put on the Cody figure was the Tri-Force logo on the boots. Jakks did a good job with the boots on their figure....but Mattel kinda missed that. No big deal though. I'd have to say the winner here is Mattel's Cody simply because it's not bland like the Jakks Cody.
He's 17-0 at WrestleMania...up next...The Undertaker!
The Mattel Elite Undertaker was another figure I thought I wouldn't get. But, when I saw it in person I thought it was the most Undertaker-looking figure ever made. I really don't care for the Mattel coat because it's hard as heck to get off. But, I'll probably eventually pick-up another coat-less Undertaker in the future (PPV 1 - Survivor Series).
The Mattel Undertaker is a pretty good figure. Some may not like the head scan. But, I think that when the hat is on Mattel's Taker it looks great, but when it's off it doesn't look right. What makes him look weird is the slicked back hair. If he had different hair, then it would look pretty awesome without the hat.
Mattel's Undertaker tattoos are freakin' awesome. No more of that scribble poop from Jakks. We actually finally have real Undertaker tattoos. What I don't like about Mattel's Taker is the side tight designs are too dark. Jakk's side tight designs stand out greatly because they are a whiteish/silver. I think Mattel chose the wrong color, because it's kinda hard to see the brown tight design. Due to Mattel's highly detail tattoos...and how awesome Taker looks with the coat/hat...Mattel's Taker wins.
Up next...Evan Bourne!
Mattel's Evan Bourne was another figure that I was not going to get; all because he didn't have any wrist tape...lol. But, when I was at Target, I saw him and thought to myself I was being way to picky...and decided to pick him up...oh and plus I had a Target Gift Card so I got him for like $5!
Mattel's head scan and just overall detail totally kill Jakks. They gave Evan his proper waist belt and they also did the better design on his tights.
The Mattel boots are freakin' awesome...this picture right here just shows how much more detailed Mattel's figures are over Jakks.
Put the spotlight on...Batista!
I've always wanted a Red attired Batista...and thanks to Mattel I got one that is awesome. Overall, Mattel's Batista just looks like Batista. The muscle tone and everything...the head scan is great. Jakks Batista is pretty good...but Mattel's torso and just overall appearance is just better.
The tattoos are pretty much the same...but just like with pretty much all other tattoos, Mattel has more detail. Oh and on a side note...you gotta love that Batista has the logos on the elbow pads.
His name is Finlay and he loves ta fight!
Finally! A Finlay with a normal head scan. Mattel's Finlay can be a little more chubbier like the Jakks Finlay; but other than that, Mattel's Finlay "shillelaghs" Jakk's Finlay...
And now onto Finlay's son and DX mascot...Hornswoggle!
Mattel's Hornswoggle was another figure that I wasn't sure about getting. But, after a long debate...I caved in and got it simply because it's way more detailed. One thing I do think Mattel needs to improve on, is the way Hornswoggle's beard looks...it just looks a tad stiff/bulky. Jakk's Hornswoggle will forever be one of my favorite figures...but Mattel's just "did it better."
The detail on the Mattel Hornswoggle's coat is just amazing.
I love both head scans...but you just gotta admit that Mattel's is slightly better simply because it looks like Hornswoggle rolled around in some mud and never took a shower...just like the real Hornswoggle. Mattel also did a great job with Hornswoggle's hair, it really looks like the spiky hair that Hornswoggle has.
They are also pretty much the same height, but Mattel's is more "chubby" and just looks more like Hornswoggle's body. I gotta say that Mattel wins this one just because of the detail.
Up next...Kofi Kingston!
Thanks to Mattel we finally have a happy Kofi Kingston. Jakks Kofi is okay, but Mattel's actually looks like Kofi Kingston...when he was Jamaican lol.
I love the Mattel boots so much...awesome palm tree!
The only thing that I can honestly say that is missing from Mattel's Kofi is the little Kofi Kingston anime face logo. But, when I was looking on WWE.com I found a picture of the same exact attire that the figure represents and it too, had no Kofi anime face...so I'd only assume that's what it's based on. Jakks Kofi just always lacked what makes Kofi...Kofi.
U CANT C him, but you can at least see his figure...John Cena!
The Mattel John Cena is pretty awesome, I love how they made him in IMO his best attire to date! I think they nailed the head scan and the attire. Just like Mattel's Batista, I think Mattel's John Cena torso, muscle tone, and just his overall appearance look more like John Cena's. The only thing that's missing on the Mattel figure is John Cena's boxers. Jakks John Cena is pretty good too, but I've always been iffy on that particular head scan.
Another thing I love about the Mattel John Cena is that Mattel painted his shoes to look just like a pair of Under Armor shoes. Jakks rarely ever gave any design to Cena's shoes.
And then these are just a few other things I picked up all throughout the month of January...
The Entrance Greats are freakin' cool, very detailed, and did I mention freakin' cool? I wasn't going to get them at first because I have the same exact Jakks versions. But, once I heard that they played music...I immediately had to get them. And of coarse...Mattel's are far more detailed than Jakks version of the WrestleMania 22 Triple H and Rey Mysterio.
(2) John Cena - Basic Series 1 - Belt Numbers: #287 MOC & #431 Opened.
I really wanted to get all the Series 1 figures and keep them in the box...so when I found out there was a six pack of them I had to get it. I picked this up for just $30, thanks to a few deals ($10 off $40 or more...and a gift card
Overall, I've been very impressed by Mattel in just this first month...they've already out beaten some of Jakks most finest figures. I'm not saying that Mattel is perfect in anyway; because they have a long way to go. But, as time goes on...things can only get better.
