That's pretty much why I passed on it, I felt it was too soon for a sequel since MMA and other combat sports like Boxing don't change as often as pro wrestling. That's why EA no longer releases an annual Fight Night game.

took a break from UFC to play Fallout for a few days, and I continued my new middleweight on expert. since getting in the UFC i haven't lost a single fight (20-2), (10-2 at UFC debut), and just beat Akiyama via 1st round RNC for the title.. my first challenger.. is Anderson. oh well, i'll leave that for later.

In one career I said no when Dana asked me to be on PPV, that made it a longer road. Right now I'm at MW and I've beaten Grove, Almeida, Dan Miller, and Okami. I have Leben next on PPV, I thought about saying no, but I didn't. I don't want to move up too fast b/c it seems that when you do you end up fighting the same guys over and over again. I figure I only have once chance to fight the lower tier guys.

Is there anyone else who hates the submisions? Everyone of my losses came by tap out. No matter how much i move the R stick i just tap out.

Yeah, that's the no. 1 thing people hate about the game. The problem lies in a feature called "charging" where instead of spinning the right stick, you can press in on it (R3) and it will use up part of your stamina to "charge" an attempt at either completing a submission or getting out of one.
When you spin, you are slowing using your stamina. With the charge, it allows you to store up stamina to use at ONE strong attempt at either completing the submission or getting out of one. As cool as it might sound, there's 2 big problems with it.
1. THQ has yet to release anything fully explaining the feature, so determining the correct amount to charge is almost impossible 2. The CPU can also use this same feature, but since it's never been explained, it's almost impossible to defend against.
That's why you'll be whooping on Frank Mir for 10 mins, get taken down all of a sudden, and tapped out like it's nothing. A very flawed system. All they would have to do is release either a patch that lets you choose to turn on the option, or atleast a guide on how exactly it works so you can defend against it.

Question for those who are still playing this regularly...
I've got some gaming credit on Amazon and need to place an order before the end of September to avoid losing it. I can't really think of anything I really want right now, other than to pre-order Kinect, and even that I'd prefer to hold off on.
I was thinking about ordering this, the games (and the sport for that matter) have intrigued me for quite some time.
I watch UFC casually, nothing major, so I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan. How much would you recommend the purchase? I'd only be paying around $21 and change for it.
From reading here, it sounds as though the career (or whatever the ranked progression mode is) is quite fun and gives the game a lot of longevity. I'm aware of the flawed submission system, but how much does it truly take away from the experience?

I'm aware of the flawed submission system, but how much does it truly take away from the experience? I'd buy it for $21. I'd buy it again at full price if I had to do it over. I never cared for playing at the higher difficulty (which is where the submission problems really show up the worst) so it's still very fun for me to run through career mode. I guess the the thing I enjoy the most about it is seeing my fighter progress (get new moves, improve skills, unlock new attires, sponsors etc.) as the game goes on. Also, I don't play online so the submission system cheating doesn't affect me either. So I would personally recomend it at $21. Unless you want to preorder Fallout New Vegas instead

So far I've fought and beat (in order): Kendall Grove Ricardo Almeida Dan Miller Yushin Okami Chris Leben Alan Belcher Wilson Gouviea Yoshihiro Akiyama is next

Honestly, I only run into the submission issue once every 40 fights or more, and I personally play on Experienced. It's easily one of the more played games either by myself or when people come over, because of the different styles. One of the most underrated features is the create-a-fighter, as you can hand pick your moves this year to help build the perfect fighter for you.
I'd buy it at full price in a heart beat, honestly. I tried playing 2009 yesterday and had to put it down because of how slow it was. The pace in this years is faster, but not to the point where it's super difficult to play. The Sway system is the big game changer, as it really adds a whole new, strategic level to the gameplay.

Also, what overall rating do you usually end up with if you can only use the points they originally give you? Thanks

Quick question...I know it's hard to defend submissions, but I swear for the life of me, I cannot make ANYONE tap out. I've tried being Frank Mir and still can't out anyone. Help?
