Jim Ross: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the WesBanco Arena from Wheeling, WV. I'm Jim Ross alongside my broadcast collegue Jesse Ventura. Tonight we will see three matches where the winners will be put into our main event to determine who start first in the match at Clash of the Champions.
Jesse Ventura: Well, Ric Flair competes in our first match tonight, the reason behind this is, he said he wants to fight first so he can rest up to fight in the main event. And Terry Gordy has been upset because for the past few weeks Cappetta hasn't been introducing him with his nick name, Bam Bam. He told Cappetta after last weeks show if he doesn't include it this week, he was going to take him into a dark alley and whatever happens happens..
Jim Ross: Yes, well how very nice of both men. Let's send it up to Gary Michael Cappetta for the opening contest.
GMC: Now entering the ring, weighing 298 pounds, hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy. His opponent from weighing in at 243 pounds, from Charlotte, North Carolina, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair.
The match starts off with Gordy kicking Flair in the midsection, twice and then giving him a double underhook suplex. Gordy then drops an elbow on Flair. Gordy picks up Flair and tosses him to the corner, which Flair hits with his back and goes flying to the outside. The ref starts the ten count. Gordy goes to the outside and grabs Flair, he goes to throw him into the post, but Flair blocks it and throws Gordy into the post. Flair rolls back in the ring. Gordy rolls in at the count of eight. When Gordy rolls in Flair begins stomping on him. Flair goes to the top rope where he is met by Gordy and is thrown off. Flair gets up and Gordy goes for a drop kick, but Flair moves out of the way. Gordy gets back up and Flair grabs him by the neck and hits a neckbreaker. He then drops a knee on Gordy's head. He picks Gordy up and delivers a few chops to the chest. Gordy then rakes Flair's eyes. He puts him between his legs for a piledriver, but Flair reverses sending Gordy crashing to the mat. He runs over to Gordy's legs and grabs them. He goes for the figure four, but Gordy grabs him and rolls him up. Gordy grabs and holds onto Flair's tights. The ref counts and Gordy gets the three.
*Gordy goes to the back and Flair rolls out of the ring and heads for the interview station.
Ric Flair: He had my tights. My tights. I had him right where I wanted him. I was about to apply the figure four and he grabbed my tights. I want the match either restarted or thrown out. I will not lose this way.
*Larry Zbyszko comes out*
Zbyszko: Well Ric, the ref's decision is final, so the match is over, Terry Gordy is the winner. He will be competing in the main event. And I do not want to see you or the Horsemen interfering or there will be serious repercussions for you. That is final.
*Zbyszko leaves and WCW goes to commercial*
GMC: Now entering the ring, weighing 240 pounds from Amarillo, Texas, Terry Funk. His opponent from The Department of Corrections in Cobb County, Georgia, weighing in at 315 pounds, Bobby Heenan.
The two started exchanging rights and lefts with Funk ducking and suplexing Boss Man. However, the match didn't last long as the Horsemen came down and beat down Terry Funk causing a DQ. When they were done with him, they went to the interview station.
Ric Flair: We will not be ignored, we will fight the injustice of earlier tonight if that means causing casualties here tonight we'll do it, we are not afraid to do it.
Larry Zbyszko walks out
Zbyszko: No, we are not playing like this. We are going to have the next match interference free and the main event will not have interference either. The Horsemen are now banned from the arena. And if you some how manage to sneak your way back in, I will not only suspend the three of you, I will take you out of the Clash of the Champions match and the World Title will still be on the line so we will see a new World Champion. I am not playing games with you. I am now done with you for this evening.
*Security comes out and escorts the Horsemen out of the arena*
Jesse Ventura: Who do these security guards think they are putting their hands on "The Nature Boys" three thousand dollar suit, they need to keep their grubby little hands off of him. He can walk out by himself.
Jim Ross: I don't think he can walk out by himself, if the security guards weren't forcing him, he'd stay behind to get involved in the next two matches.
Jesse Ventura: Says you, I know Ric Flair, he is an upstanding gentlemen and he is only doing what is in his best interest, if that means knocking a few heads along the way to Clash of the Champions so be it.
Jim Ross: Well certainly the CEO doesn't like that Flair is taking things into his own hands so he is out of here for tonight. Let's move onto the next match.
Jesse Ventura: Sure Ross just stifle the conversation, do it your way.
GMC: In the ring at this time, weighing in at 255 pounds from Rome, Georgia, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson along side him is his manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. And his opponent, weighing 290 pounds, from New York City, John Bradshaw Layfield.
The match started off with Bradshaw in control, he seemed to want to end it early as he geared up for a clothesline from hell, he ran to the ropes, but Bobby Heenan grabbed his leg and tripped him. When he turned around to yell at Heenan Anderson attacked. The ref admonished Heenan and said if he interferes again he is gone. Anderson pummeled JBL and at one point set him up for a brain buster. He picked him up, but JBL wiggled out of it and did a short arm clothesline sending Anderson to the ground. JBL had the advantage for a few more moments until he once again went for the clothesline from hell and again Bobby Heenan grabbed his leg. The ref ejected Heenan, but when JBL turned around, Anderson grabbed him and hit the spinebuster. He covered Layfield and got the three.
Jim Ross: Welcome back and it is now time for the main event. Two fo the men are in the ring right now just waiting for the bell to ring to start this match. We also have to announce that the ref has decided to bar Bobby Heenan from ringside.
Gordy and Anderson started the match, Terry Funk would come out later after being checked by doctors after the beat down from the Horsemen earlier in the night. Gordy would get the upperhand by uppercutting Anderson and suplexing him. He did variations of his signature moves including a drop kick from the top rope. Gordy tried to end the match before Funk came out, but he could not do it. Gordy held the advantage until Funk did come out with his ribs taped up. Funk just threw himself at Gordy pummeling him trying to take the big man out of the equation. Arn Anderson finally got up and helped Funk take on Gordy. The two were successful in getting him to stay down for a short period time during which they fought each other. Anderson would hit a snap suplex and Funk would try for a DDT but Gordy got up and clotheslined him. Gordy tried for the pin but only got a two. He began stomping on Funk's ribs and Anderson got up and tried to whip Gordy into the ropes for a spinebuster but Gordy would move out of the way and hit a big boot sending Anderson to the outside. He then grabbed Funk and tried to powerbomb him, but Funk sent him over his back. He grabbed Gordy and tried for a DDT. Anderson was getting up and trying to roll in the ring when the ref went to go check on him Gordy low blowed Funk. He put him between his legs and powerbombed him. Anderson got up and Gordy clotheslined him out of the ring. He then went and covered Funk and got the three.
After the match the Freebirds came down and celebrated the fact that they get to start the Clash of the Champions match as the show came to a close.
