Considering the talent, this should be great. I don't see this lasting, though. Prove me wrong!

Just briefly Chaz, read out your roster, and I have a few things to correct you on:
- Kanyon I believe was injured at this time as Mortis; I believe he returned around June or July in a feud with Raven. - Larry Zybyszko = Larry Zbyszko - Ted Dibiase had taken a backstep from managing and seemed to vanish from on-screen activity by this point. - Kenny Chaos = Kenny Kaos - Kizmark Jr = Lizmark Jr
Everything else is fine, it seems. I'm looking so forward to this, and I'm curious to seeing the layout for three hour Nitro.

MONDAY NITRO 20/04/1998 | Colorado Springs, CO
LAST NIGHT.. A video recaps the Spring Stampede main event which saw Randy Savage defeat Sting in controversial fashion to capture the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, with Kevin Nash and Hollywood Hogan both playing a part.
- INTRO VIDEO –
We join Tony Schiavone, Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan and Larry Zbyszko at the announcer’s booth for tonight’s 3-hour Monday Nitro telecast. After discussing the controversial events of the Spring Stampede pay-per-view last night, they inform us that Kevin Nash, Hollywood Hogan, Lex Luger, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, and new WCW World Heavyweight Champion Randy Savage, among others, are in the arena tonight.
We hear the music of the nWo’s ‘leader’ Hollywood Hogan, who makes his way to the ring closely followed by Eric Bischoff and The Disciple. The fans hate this guy with a passion. In the ring, with a mic in hand, Hogan begins insulting tonight’s crowd. He calls them nobodies that will never get anywhere in life, especially to the level of Hollywood Hogan. He is the man these people wish they were, and he’s the leader of the nWo, not Kevin Nash, not Randy Savage, and that’s why he should be the WCW World Champion right now instead of Savage. He demands Nash step back into line. Hogan then issues a challenge to Savage for the World Title right here tonight on Nitro!

Again, we hear the music of the new World order, this time with Kevin Nash making his entrance towards the ring. Nash talks about how Hollywood Hogan’s ego has become so inflated that he truly believes he’s bigger than the nWo, bigger than WCW, bigger than professional wrestling. He tells Hogan straight that he may have had a helping hand in creating mainstream success for professional wrestling, and he may have been instrumental in the success of WCW, but plain and simply, he’s an bunghole. Hogan can run his mouth until the cows come home, but Nash says he will no longer take orders from Hogan. Big Sexy drops his mic, and tears his nWo shirt in half! Has Kevin Nash quit the nWo?
Meng defeats John Nord. (4:11) Now, John Nord is hardly the smallest of men. His blunt, forceful blows to Meng should do more damage. But the Tongan native seems completely unfazed by anything Nord has, and almost kicks his opponent’s jaw off with a Superkick. Meng slaps Nord around for a moment before applied the universally feared Tongan Death Grip, sending Nord into an unconscious state and giving Meng the win in our opening Nitro bout.
- COMMERCIAL -
Yugi Nagata (w/ Sonny Onoo) defeats Disco Inferno. (3:58) Dancing to your entrance music won’t get you anywhere, Disco. Nagata is in control early on, landing stiff kicks to Disco. Tides turn and Disco comes back, and misses a Double Axe Handle from the top-rope, landing straight into a Nagata Roundhouse Kick. Dazed and confused, Disco has no chance, and falls victim to a Backdrop Suplex. Nagata gets the three-count, followed by Onoo rushing in to raise his man’s hand.
LAST NIGHT.. A video recaps last night’s match at Spring Stampede between Goldberg and Saturn of Raven’s Flock. Goldberg was promised a U.S Heavyweight Title shot if he continued his winning streak with a victory over Saturn, something he accomplished.
In the ring, U.S Heavyweight Champion Raven stands along with his Flock. He says that everyone perceives Goldberg to be some dominating, unstoppable force. He says Goldberg may even believe his own hype, but Raven has a better perspective. Raven has a better view on things. Goldberg defeated Saturn last night, but he’s not going to get his title shot until he can REALLY prove himself. Raven tells Goldberg he has to beat the 7’2 Reese tonight on Nitro if he wants his title match. We here the music of Goldberg, and it looks as if we’re going to get that match right now!
Goldberg defeats Reese (w/ The Flock). (1:26) Reese is the obvious favourite because of his size. It looks as if Goldberg is finally gonna get beat here. The winning streak could be over. Reese corners Goldberg and clubs him round repeatedly on the back of the head. However, he makes a huge error and assumes that the damage inflicted is enough to keep Goldberg down. Reese backs off to celebrate, giving Goldberg enough room to charge and flatten him with a Spear. The crowd is absolutely wild for Goldberg’s apparent annihilation of this behemoth, and he calls for the Jackhammer. Reese is lifted high into the air, where Goldberg manages to hold him for a brief moment before dropping him with force. Goldberg is the victor, and he WILL get a shot at Raven and the U.S Title belt.

LAST NIGHT.. A video recaps the World Television Championship match between Booker T and Chris Benoit from last night’s Spring Stampede pay-per-view.
We return to Nitro and join Gene Okerlund in the ring ready to interview WCW World Television Champion Booker T. He makes his way out to the ring where Okerlund begins questioning Booker over his impressive victory over Chris Benoit last night at Spring Stampede. Booker says he fought hard, and that paid off because he is still the World Television Champion, and will be for a long time to come. He looks forward to new challengers so he can prove why he is the best Television Champion in history. Chris Benoit comes out onto the stage and stares down Booker T. He yells, ‘We’re not over!’ at the champion, indicating that he isn’t ready to end this feud just yet. Booker tells Benoit that he is gonna have to get in line if he wants a shot at his title. Benoit continues to stare, and quietly heads backstage, feeling that his message was delivered effectively.
The British Bulldog (w/ Jim Neidhart) defeats Hugh Morrus (w/ Jimmy Hart). (5:19) Neidhart still has the handcuff attached to his hand that Rick Rude locked onto him last night at Spring Stampede. Both he and Bulldog seem on a mission tonight, needing to prove themselves. Morrus looks impressive, but can’t quite overcome the sheer power and experience of Davey Boy Smith.
Chris Jericho’s music hits and the WCW Cruiserweight Champion makes his way to the ring, Dean Malenko portrait in tow. He props up the portrait and begins talking about how it was a representation of failure. Jericho calls Malenko a hopeless, useless, imcompetent nobody who isn’t even fit to lace his boots. He says Malenko is a liar because he claims to be the ‘Man of a 1000 Holds’. Jericho claims to be the ‘Man of 1001 Holds’. He says if Malenko is the best that the cruiserweight division has to offer then he may aswell retire now with the Cruiserweight Title, because he is the best in the world right now. He runs down a few names (El Dandy, Marty Jannetty, Juventud Guerrera, Kaz Kayashi) and insults them all for being so poor in the ring and for contributing nothing to the cruiserweight division. As Jericho continues his tirade, Juventud Guerrera slides in behind him and nails him with a Spinning Heel Kick. Jericho rolls out of the ring clutching his jaw as Juvi throws out his Malenko portrait and Cruiserweight Title belt. Looks like Jericho’s pissed off the cruiserweights a little bit.

Gene Okerlund is back out in the ring. He introduces the Chairman of the Executive Committee J.J. Dillon, who makes his way out to the ring. Okerlund asks Dillon why he requested this time out here tonight. Dillon replies that several developments have been made in many areas tonight on Nitro and he’s going to gain a measure of control over them. He says that Goldberg fulfilled his obligations in regards to earning a shot at the U.S Heavyweight Championship, and Raven had no right to question it. Therefore, tonight, Raven will defend the title against Goldberg! The crowd go bezerk as does Okerlund. Dillon also refers to the comments made by Hollywood Hogan earlier tonight, and the challenge to Randy Savage for the WCW Heavyweight Title. It becomes apparent that he is going to reject the idea when we here the music of the nWo, but not just any nWo member, it’s WCW World Champion Randy Savage. He comes out to the ring and tells everyone that first, there’s something he needs to do. He tears up his nWo t-shirt, spits on it and throws it to the ground. Macho calls Hogan a piece of garbage that needs taking out. He tells Dillon to step aside and let the champion call this one. Macho accepts Hogan’s challenge, finishing with, ‘See you tonight, Hollywood, oh yeahhhh!’. Looks like we’re gonna see Savage/Hogan tonight!
Ultimo Dragon defeats Villano V. (6:06) Our first cruiserweight contest of the evening. Dragon is coming hot off a victory over Chavo Guerrero Jr. at Spring Stampede, something which has not kept his uncle Eddie impressed at all. However, whatever problems Eddie Guerrero has with Ultimo Dragon has no effect on his performance tonight, and the Japanese superstar pulls off the win with the Dragon Bomb. After the match is over and Ultimo Dragon is celebrating his victory, Eddie Guerrero hits the ring and attacks him from behind. He is closely followed by Chavo Guerrero Jr., who doesn’t join in on the beat down, much to Eddie’s dismay. He slaps Chavo, and calls him a failure and disgrace. Eddie leaves his nephew and the fallen Ultimo Dragon in the ring.

Chris Benoit defeats Chris Adams. (7:43) Booker T arrived promptly at the announcer’s booth for this one. Benoit and Adams exhange stiff blows as the momentum shifts back and forth. Eventually, a hard German Suplex swings things in Benoit’s favour. The Canadian Crippler catches Adams off guard and locks on the Crippler Crossface. Adams has no choice but to tap out. As Benoit heads up the ramp, he glances over at Booker T. This feud is definitely not over.
Diamond Dallas Page heads out to the ring next. He takes a mic and begins talking about how Raven may have took his title, but much like Benoit/Booker, this isnt’ over. Page mentions Goldberg and his winning streak, and puts himself out as the man who will end it in order to reclaim the U.S Title, if needs be. Curt Hennig and Rick Rude make an unexpected entrance and enter the ring. They make fun of Page’s claims and call him a ‘whining little girl’. Hennig says that if Page couldn’t even beat Raven, what chance does he have of beating Goldberg? Hennig tells Page to step aside and let the real pros do their thing. As Hennig declares himself the next challenger to the U.S Heavyweight Championship, Page smacks him right in the mouth, same for Rude. He calls for the Diamond Cutter, but both men escape before anything further can take place. Something tells me Curt Hennig and Rick Rude won’t let this rest.
- COMMERCIAL –
We’re backstage in the nWo locker room, where Hollywood Hogan is shown warming up before his match with Randy Savage tonight for the WCW World Title. The Disciple and Eric Bischoff are there with him. Bischoff talks tactics with Hogan, and says that no matter how gloomy the future of the nWo may look, he’ll make sure there are guys available if Hogan needs them tonight.
EARLIER TONIGHT.. A video recaps events from earlier tonight, where Goldberg crushed Reese of Raven’s Flock to reaffirm his position as number one contender to Raven’s United States Title.
Goldberg defeats Raven (w/ The Flock) to win the WCW UNITED STATES HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. (5:08) The Flock are at ringside for this one, and they’re armed with weapons of every imagineable kind. Reese isn’t out though, maybe because Goldberg destroyed him earlier tonight. With all that taken into consideration, Raven is smart, and lasts considerably longer than some of Goldberg’s previous ‘victims’. However, when things look like they’re going Goldberg’s way, The Flock jump into the ring in order to prevent Raven losing the title. Goldberg mows them all down one by one, and the crowd eat it up. Raven picks up Sick Boy’s chair, and dares Goldberg to come and get him. Goldberg cuts through him (and the chair) with an almighty Spear. It’s Jackhammer time! Moments later, after drilling Raven to the mat below, Goldberg makes the cover and picks up the U.S Heavyweight Championship, just 24 hours after Raven beat DDP for it! One things for sure; we probably won’t be seeing a new U.S Champion for a very, long time.

Brian Adams, Scott Norton and Vincent are in the ring when we return from the break. Norton has the mic. He says that despite everything that’s happened, he’s sad to see this happening to the nWo. He knows they can still run WCW like they have for the past 2 years. Norton ends his short promo by revealing that he, Adams and Vincent all pledge their allegience to Hollywood Hogan and the nWo. Lex Luger’s music hits, and it looks like we have a match here..
Scott Norton (w/ Brian Adams and Vincent) defeats Lex Luger. (5:56) Luger has a long history with the nWo and would take great delight here in taking out three of it’s key members. However, the numbers game comes into play. Luger floors Norton with a Flying Forearm, but in the process he takes out the referee. Out of nowhere, Buff Bagwell, clad in nWo colours, flies from the top turnbuckle and nails the Blockbuster on Luger. He drags Norton over Luger as Vincent and Adams revive the referee. Norton picks up the three count and the victory, something that will surely impress the nWo higher-ups.

Michael Buffer introduces our main event, for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLEEEEEEEEEEE!
Randy Savage vs. Hollywood Hogan (w/ The Disciple) (no contest; Savage retains the WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP). (13:21) Savage and Hogan seem to be trading blows forever. Hogan works on the seemingly injured left knee of Macho Man, grounding him to the mat. Things look bleak for Savage when Hogan lines himself up for the Atomic Leg Drop, but Savage dodges it. The Disciple takes out the referee and throws Savage from the top turnbuckle as he looks to hit the Diving Elbow Drop. Kevin Nash hits the ring, and brawls with The Disciple, but Hogan joins in and together they take down Big Sexy. Savage aids his friend, and as a comeback looks imminent, Bret Hart enters the ring with a steel chair. He whacks Savage and Nash from nowhere, winning this brawl for Hogan. Hart unbuttons his shirt to reveal an nWo t-shirt. Hogan and Hart hug, as Bischoff and a few more nWo guys hit the ring to end this edition of Monday Nitro. We’ll see you Thursday for Thunder!

- Good opening promo with Hogan/Nash. - Meng picking up the win I expected. - Nagata over Inferno makes me a sad panda. But whatever. - Goldberg over Reese was pretty obvious to happen. Would like him vs Raven. - Bulldog over Morris is the right call here. Don't see Morris as much tbh. - Sweet, Goldberg vs Raven will happen. Even more sweet, Savage vs Hogan. - Dragon winning is awesome. - Benoit beating Adams is the right call, hope Benoit does well. - Hennig/Rude/DDP promo was good. Expecting some type of contenders match. - Goldberg winning the gold from Raven just makes him even bigger, good. - Like Bagwell costing Luger the match. That's good stuff. - Bret Hart on NWO side is good stuff, man. Glad this match was no contest and liked how all the post-match stuff went down.
Real good Nitro.

WCW Monday Nitro: Monday 20th April 1998...I am loving the layout, and as a WCW fan who watched this show in real life, I'll tell you that from overview it seemed a superior show than in real life. Firstly, a sweet promo to kick off Nitro with Hollywood Hogan in the ring, led by Eric Bischoff and The Disciple. Disciple's purpose was useless, but he was an amusing addition to the nWo faction if you ask me. Hogan challenging Randy Savage to a match tonight for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship is great, and should be a nice main event that will draw some rating. Love the detail on the commercials, let me just say that. I'd have seperated Kevin Nash's promo from Hogan's though, for realism. Usually they'd be seperated by a match adding more viewer interest to continue watching the three hour show, adding more and more interest and suspense. Nash quitting the nWo I see will begin the Wolfpack. Nash made a great babyface, and was just about up with the heel nWo stuff. Meng beating John Nord is fine, but I think Nord had disappeared from WCW by this point. From what I recall, he was around in January and then I didn't see much of him. Yugi Nagata beating Disco Inferno is fine, Nagata was getting somewhere in World Championship Wrestling, but I can't see him getting too far; I think Inferno would have been better choice for winner. I think Disco was getting re-involved with Alex Wright around this point, also. Raven and The Flock's appearance is great, I hope Raven has a lengthy reign as WCW US Heavyweight Champion, though. Goldberg annihilating Reese really shows him as a threat, surprised The Flock didn't try get involved. I just want Raven to avoid losing the belt, unless it's on pay-per-view and made credible. Just a small bit of trivia; they wouldn't show video packages recapping the pay-per-view the night before; they'd show three or four still images and the announcers would narrate on that. Then they'd show the videos of a pay-per-view match weeks later on Thunder. Booker T's interview was very smooth, but hmm, him and Chris Benoit I feel are wasted in the WCW World Television Championship ranks. They had an amazing series though, in the summer of 1998, and so I suppose you're doing the best you can here. British Bulldog beating Hugh Morrus is fine. Hopefully Morrus will get somewhere in WCW; he was a good wrestler. Chris Jericho's promo was very sound, liked it and it furthered the situation with Dean Malenko where Malenko has quit WCW. Jericho hopefully has some more fun and games with other cruiserweights as WCW World Cruiserweight Champion before Malenko returns, though. I wonder what brings JJ Dillon to Nitro. Nice promo setting up for Raven against Goldberg, but hopefully it isn't any time soon. I'd love for The Flock to be taken down individually by Goldberg first. Hogan and Savage finalized is great. Whilst it would be a great match, Ultimo Dragon and Villano V wouldn't interest everybody in attendance. Dragon wouldn't last too long after this point, unfortunately, with the botched arm surgery and whatnot. Hopefully he soon gets another shot at the belt though. Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero Jr happenings are intriguing, glad to see you're starting to build that. Chris Benoit and Chris Adams would have a nice match, both of a similar style. Booker and Benoit staredown adds to their feud situation. Diamond Dallas Page being interrupted by Rick Rude and Curt Hennig...interesting. Only complaint is it's almost a resample of what we saw at Starrcade 1997, even if DDP was last minute replacement for Ric Flair. Ah, nevermind. Goldberg beating Raven to win the WCW US Heavyweight Championship is alright I guess. If only Raven had a lengthy run. Nevermind, I'm sure you have other things to do with Raven and The Flock. Very nice idea for it to be on the same night that Goldberg beat Reese, too. Scott Norton beating Lex Luger was a surprise indeed. nWo B-Team interaction was pretty strange, also. Norton has potential to be big in WCW, though; but his co-operation in NJPW stopped that. Lastly, great main event with Hogan and Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Bret Hart involved now? Nash has turned face I see. Bret joining the nWo is shocking. Overall, it was a very realistic and eventful addition. I have definitely got to keep up with this; my preferred time period in professional wrestling. Love it, Chaz!

-Hogan challenging Savage is a good way to open the show -Nash tearing up his nWo shirt is a very interesting way to go -Meng winning the opener was decent and Nagata winning is good -I like Raven saying Goldberg is all hype and having Goldberg crush Reese in just over a minute was great for his career -The Benoit/Booker segment seemed like it was kind of awkward but as long as their matches continue, I'm happy -Bulldog winning makes sense -The Jericho segment was great, perfectly done except I remember Jericho being the man of 1,004 holds, not 1,001 -Macho Man quitting the nWo is great and I'm sure the segment went over awesome -An Eddie/Ultimo feud is good and I like the Eddie/Chavo stuff after -Benoit winning not only makes sense, but should help him get another TV Title shot -Good segment with Henning & Page, a feud between them would be very good -Wonder what Goldberg's record is at this point, but regardless him as United States Champion is the right call -Surprised Norton went over Luger, but with the interference it made sense -Great main event and the post match stuff was brilliant. Bret in nWo is fantastic and makes me wanna read every show you post
Great Nitro, brought me back to the good old days. I miss wrestling circa 1998.

Really appreciate the replies. Just wanted to address a few things. 1. Whilst that would be the obvious route, sometimes, especially in the late '90's, WCW crammed things in to build for later on in the show, or for things to seem more realistic. I wanted to put this across as Nash begin eager to get his word in after Hogan came out. 2. Nord was a regular on Saturday Night. He left in mid-to-late 1998. 3. They did in fact air videos for replays of pay-per-views, even as soon as the next night on Nitro. Sometimes, they'd entice you to view Thunder or other sub-class shows by offering exclusive footage, or to build a storyline (Sting/Hogan, for example). 4. Ultimo Dragon had not undergone surgery at this point. He left in July. -Hogan challenging Savage is a good way to open the show -Nash tearing up his nWo shirt is a very interesting way to go -Meng winning the opener was decent and Nagata winning is good -I like Raven saying Goldberg is all hype and having Goldberg crush Reese in just over a minute was great for his career - The Benoit/Booker segment seemed like it was kind of awkward but as long as their matches continue, I'm happy -Bulldog winning makes sense -The Jericho segment was great, perfectly done except I remember Jericho being the man of 1,004 holds, not 1,001-Macho Man quitting the nWo is great and I'm sure the segment went over awesome -An Eddie/Ultimo feud is good and I like the Eddie/Chavo stuff after -Benoit winning not only makes sense, but should help him get another TV Title shot -Good segment with Henning & Page, a feud between them would be very good -Wonder what Goldberg's record is at this point, but regardless him as United States Champion is the right call -Surprised Norton went over Luger, but with the interference it made sense -Great main event and the post match stuff was brilliant. Bret in nWo is fantastic and makes me wanna read every show you post Great Nitro, brought me back to the good old days. I miss wrestling circa 1998. 1. That's actually what I'm looking to create in certain situations. WCW frequently had awkward, senseless moments, so to make this diary realistic I really want to try and incorporate this. Thanks for spotting it. 2. Originally, Jericho began referring to himself as the Man of 1,001 Holds.

Nitro, I like Hogan stating his authority within the nWo. Nash quitting the nWo? Sounds interesting. I expected Meng to win, glad he did. I would have preferred Disco going over here, but Nagata with the win is fine. Definitely predicted this Goldberg victory, and it was definitely the right decision. I would like to see Goldberg take the United States Title from Raven. Interesting segment between Booker T and Chris Benoit, I'm glad you haven't eneded their feud, it has a bit left in the tank. Glad to see Bulldog with the victory. The addition with Neidhart having the handcuffs still around his wrist is nice. Great Jericho promo, and the interruption from Guerrera was nice, although I have never been a fan of Juventud. Wow, Raven defends the US Title against Goldberg tonight? Awesome. Savage leaving the nWo and accepting the challenge is fantastic, can't wait for that match. Pleased to see Ultimo Dragon with the victory, but the aftermath was good. Benoit with the victroy was predictable, surprised Booker didn't get involved in any way. Nice DDP segment, but I don't see him getting another US Title shot. So happy to see Goldberg defeat Raven here for the Title. I expect a decent reign. I was surprised to see Norton get the victory here, but with the interference of the other nWo members, it amde sense. Very celever decision to end the match in a No Contest. Bret Hart with the nWo, FTW! I like that Nash has turned face, but glad to see the nWo stand tall to close the show.
You definitely captured the essence of WCW, and it makes me want to get out my old tapes. Very good show, and I can't wait for Thunder. Good job.
