videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/sony-s-motion-controller-named-playstation-move-priced-under-100/1393386![](http://i39.tinypic.com/5am8hl.png) During an event at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, the company officially unveiled the name of their upcoming Playstation 3 motion control device: Playstation Move. The controller will hit shelves this fall.
"It's fast, precise and accurate," said Peter Dille, Sony's senior VP of marketing. "We like to think this is the next generation of motion-gaming...we're really approaching this as a platform launch."
Sony's response to the Nintendo Wii remote, the Playstation Move system requires both the new wand controller and the Playstation Eye camera to work. Though exact pricing has not been set, Sony confirmed that a "starter kit" of one controller, one Playstation Eye and one game will be sold for under $100. The Move will also be sold as a standalone product or bundled with the Playstation 3 system itself. Looks pretty awesome. I don't have a PS3, but I've been thinking about getting one, If I do, I'll get this.

Well thanks a lot Nintendo. Now no matter what console I buy in 10 years, every game will be gimmicky motion-controlled shovelware garbage.

I dont think ill shell out the extra $$$ for those, but they are interesting and could be cool. But with all the money ive already got put into the ps3, i dont feel like giving extra for a gimmick, that will probably drop price when it hits its stride.

I can't stand motion controls or the fact that everyone is jumping onto the bandwagon because the Wii proved successful. For every good motion-controlled game there always seems to be at least ten utterly horrible ones that were made only to cash in on the craze.

I will second Kliquid and Happy Pizza. It will take something completely phenomenal and groundbreaking for me to even consider it. I don't see it happening.

Blame PlayStation. They didn't HAVE to take that route. They're already successful. Besides, I don't think video gaming will ever move away from the use of controllers. Motion control might not even last 10 years. If it does, it'll be the secondary option.

I like the fact that Sony's promotional shots are basically IDENTICAL to the Wii/Revolution promotional shots, almost as to say "yeah, we did it. ![](http://www.wrestlingfigs.com/images/wfcensored.gif) you"

The reason I stayed away from the Wii is because a lot of their games are catered to the casual/grandma player who don't normally play game which led to most of them being terribly gimmicky and simplified. I really home Microsoft/Sony don't go this route.

Maybe it's just me, but I own several games for the Wii, and only two of them demand you use the Wii Mote to play them, and of them is the pack in Wii Sports. Supposedly the Move is more responsive than the Wii Mote, so good for Sony, hopefully it makes things more interesting.

The Wii has proven that motion controls DO NOT work. If you look at the library of Wii titles, the best stuff is either controlled traditionally with minimal gesture based movements, or are IR based. And the games that are all strictly or majorly motion controlled are either mini game compilations or sports titles. When you get a game like relies mostly on motion for attacks or movements, things start to fall apart and the game is either a broken mess or sells like crap.
Sony or Microsoft aren't going to catch Wii's lightning in a bottle for hardware sales. The Wii does fine because the console launches with a lot buzz and you get a game that everyone can play and will enjoy. THAT'S the Wii's success. It's not software sales. It's not that motion control is the next big thing, because if that were the case, No More Heroes, Zach And Wiki, and Madworld would be the talk of the town hardware sellers. Instead it's a product demo packed with a controller, a fitness peripheral, and dozens of standard pre-established franchises that would have sold a million copies with or without waggle.
