It has got to be either Lil Wayne or Eminem. I honestly hear more about Lil Wayne nowadays than any other rapper, and that drives me up the ing wall. People talk as if he's actually done something! And he hasn't! With the exception, of course, and ultra-popularizing autotuning more than any other artist (Kanye's another offender, but at least he might actually try a melody out once in a while). He's average and worthless at best, and people talk as if he's the greatest of all time. Meanwhile Aesop Rock, the boys from Little Brother, Blackalicious, and countless others are looked over so we can hear "Like a Lollipop" a million times. Eminem might rank up there, depending on my mood. When he's on top of his game, he's one of the best. But he hasn't been on top of his game in a long while. Even his most heartfelt topics, like his daughter, now seem to be run into the ground by his constant glorification of them. His songs about spousal abuse and children without father figures should not to be his fallbacks when his latest fart joke song fails to crap the top 10. He tries to be funny, he tries to be psycho, he basically tries too hard. And there's a lot of respect for what he went through (at least as he says it), what he's done for hip hop (ESPECIALLY WHITE MCs) and he usually ranks near the top of "All Time Great Hip Hop Artists" lists, but we haven't seen that side of Eminem in far too long. The fact that he stays relevant is both a miracle and a sign of what kind of dumbasses are buying records. End rant.

I don't even listen to rap, but Lil' Wayne. Everyone at my school is in love with him, and I think that he's just a shitty rapper (used very loosely) all around. He has the worst ing voice ever and then he thinks he can play the guitar? Unbelievable.

i honestly think lil wayne is very overrated too. i can take him in small doses or when he's featured on a track. i have maybe 3 or 4 of his albums but just can't get through them from beginning to end withought getting annoyed by his voice or not understanding what the hell he's saying.

As everyone else said Lil Wayne, I thought everyone would say biggie or tupac. Well, why would you think that? I mean, I get that their reputations preceed them, but both Me Against The World and Ready To Die are hip hop landmarks. Absolutely.

Today's Weezy is overrated. I agree. Why? Because ever since the end of the Hot Boyz, he's been seeking that major audience. The only way he could do it was to sell out to the mainstream audience and pander to the masses. That mixed with the fact that he's ALWAYS effed up on weed and syrup.
You guys missed the boat on Lil Wayne. Jay Z wouldn't mention "The Mixtape Weezy" for nothing. The man has true talent, and is lyrically on of the best rapper I've ever heard. The Dedication 2 mixtape was better than most of his full major albums. Weezy's got talent, he just isn't using it to rap anymore. He's using it to entertain a bunch of teenage girls.
So for that I say that Lil Wayne isn't the most overrated, but gets more credit for his current music than he should.
Now who's the most overrated today? Gucci Mane, without a shadow of a doubt. Dude's straight garbage.
Of all time? I'll have to get back to you on that one.

anything that is basically about ing women/getting money/shooting people/being superior to basically all and being able to take their girlfriends i find overrated simply because there is no value in that garbage. i'm not by any means saying all rap is like that. i understand why someone could enjoy the production as hip hop production is in many ways often amazingly done, i even get why someone could appreciate the witticism used by rappers to say the crapthey do, but to actually really accept that kind of bullcraplifestyle/behaviour, even worse, think it's cool and support it, is really horrid judgement.

Gotta go with Weezy. I use to like him but it seemed after Fireman came out everyone around where I'm from thought he was the best rapper to ever grace a mic. The Rebirth had a few "ok" songs but the CD was mostly garbage in my book

Considering many people say Lil Wayne is the best rapper EVER; it has to be him. Even if he is one of the best, saying he's the best rapper ever is so completely preposterous that it automatically makes him the most overrated rapper ever. LoL.

Wow, a lot of Lil Wayne hate. I agree he is overrated but not more than eminem. His music was funny his first 2 or 3 albums but then his music style changed to trying to beef with everyone and claiming to be the white Pac. 2Pac's music, well most of it, told the story of his life. Eminem hasn't nor will he ever put out a song that's comparable to Brenda's Got a Baby. So eminem gets my vote, but I do agree that Lil wayne is overrated.

Eminem. Lil Wayne's the in' god. Amen. Lil Wayne is one of the hottest rappers out right now. For the people who say what has he done. What hasn't he done? Hottest and best selling album of 2008 in the Carter 3, had the highest grossing rap tour of all time, sold 1.5 million records in a week which was the first rapper to do that since 50 cents second album, has been on more colabos then anyone, and has a sick mixtape game that many fail to see or realize with dedication 2, most recently no ceilings. The guy appeals to everyone underground and mainstream so i would def. not call him the over rated rapper.

*Waits for someone to say "The term overrated is overrated"*
But, I'll have to say Gucci Mane. I personally think he's terrible.

Not an avid rap fan, but Lil Wayne IS the most overrated rapper, I'm sorry. His music sells because of how overrated he actually is currently.
Now, commence me getting crapon by all the wayne fans on this board, because that's just how it is man.
