Sorry if this sounds like a stupid ass question, but do fighters get drug tested? I always hear about people, Nick Diaz comes to mind, who smoke "tobacco" before their grappling sessions and stuff.

Yes they do. Diaz has tested positive for Marijuana before and had his win revoked to a no contest.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Sometimes the MMA companies itself does its own drug testing instead of the commisions.

I thought that the UFC did them before and after their fights. Hence how Leben and Silvia were caught. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm not totally sure.

UFC only does them for the UK or other shows that aren't in the US.

UFC only does them for the UK or other shows that aren't in the US. Well that's pretty lame. I know if they were to fight here in New York they would have to submit to a drug test or not compete. I know for a fact that has prevented many of WWE Superstars from wrestling in many events including some I have seen. So bring em to New York and we will see who is on stuff and who isn't.

They only do it in places that have no commisions, which are the UK and other countries. When it's in the US, the commisions themselves do the testing, not UFC. Don't get the wrong idea.

However I doubt there are a lot of people on drugs or steroids in UFC. You got a lot of natural weight classes and natural looking people.

They even outlawed chinese martial arts and BJJ competitions(not directly). They only way MMA is legal in NY is if it is held on a native reserve, it might be the same about CA too. That link you posted about NY is from Feb 23, 2009. I don't know if it's been legalized yet, but the post a few above says it has for several months now.
What was previously said about the commissions doing the testing is correct unless there is no governing body or commission, the UFC will pick up the tab.

I predict that the minute, nay, the very instant MMA is legalized in NY, Dana White is going to announce that he's bringing the UFC to MSG. We'd simply have heard something by now if it was legal.
And, last I heard, it's still not legal.

Dana White even said at the press conference that "We need to get New York to make this legal, as well". Hah. It isn't legal yet, sir. Neither pro or amateur MMA. Learn the facts, chief: www.ikfkickboxing.com/USAStates.htmIt's still not legal in Maine, Michigan (Although Amateur MMA is), New York, West Virginia and parts of Canada.

I thought a lot of the fighters got tested more often than that, because its sanctioned by state commissions and such.
