Ahh MVP. I of course just made a thread about how terrible his new 'Play of the Day' finisher is and how half-assed it seems. It was pointed out that in general MVP seems to be half-assing it, and I would agree. That said, I can't really blame the guy. He won most improved in 2007 and most underrated in 2008, but even after a poorly conceived and executed face turn he still managed to have the fans behind him when he got in Randy Orton's face after being drafted to RAW. And then outside of dropping the US Title to Kofi this time last year, MVP has done almost nothing. I used to be a big fan of him but it seemed as though I stopped caring right around the time MVP did.
Now I'm not saying the guy deserves a push because there are already plenty of guys who are worth investing more time in right now. But I do feel as though WWE should take advantage of all of the media attention LeBron James has been getting and try and use that in a storyline for MVP.
My idea is that MVP announces on SmackDown that he is going to his hometown of Miami to make a huge announcement about his career. The announcers suggest perhaps MVP is setting up some sort of charity event or maybe even announcing his retirement. MVP stands at the podium and tells everyone how he's was the longest reigning United States champion and a dual champion and all of his accomplishments, but that he has never been able to win a World Title. And the reason for that is simple: Miami. He's been nothing but loyal in proudly representing his hometown, going as far as to call himself Mr. 305, but they've never appreciated him. They even booed him on the biggest stage of them all WrestleMania 24. Miami parties in the streets when they sign LeBron James but they don't give a damn about anything MVP does, so MVP is signing with another city for more money.
MVP can then go around to whatever city WWE is at that week and bash it and explain why he wouldn't sign with them. When he does finally sign with a city he'd be announced as representing them. Obviously L.A. or NYC would be easy to boo, but I'd go with Greece, where a number of professional basketball players have played for large contracts in recent years. This naturally leads to heel heat and confrontations with other wrestlers who may take offense to MVP's words.
The upshot of all of this is that MVP would bring back his classic heel mannerisms and regala such as the inflatable tunnel and the clock ticking before his entrance and his cool attire instead of the terrible red he wears now. I would even consider giving him an entourage, or 'dream team' of sorts, having him backed up by Shad and Titus O'Neil.
And ultimately I would think it would help lit a fire under MVP's ass and maybe even get him back to the level he was at.
