I bought my first Mattel figure. Up until this weekend... I was completely anti-mattel and supportive of Jakks. However, after seeing that Mattel added Warrior and of course Macho Man, enough was enough.
I collected RAs since CS 1 and was really upset Jakks lost the license. But honestly, I have to admit now... Mattel has brought their A-game. They're giving the fans what they want for the most part and are putting a hell of a lot stronger effort than Jakks EVER did. My frustration with Jakks really hit a boiling point with the "masked" Kane in the 3 pack exclusive... I think even God still facepalms on that one.
I could name tons of Jakks epic screwups. Chaos in the Cell. That awful CS Goldberg head scan. The constant repaints. And oh... like, HARDLY EVER giving the fans what they want and completely half-assing the few things they did.
Now, the first Mattel figure I got wasn't first choice (Elite Series 2 Batista) but it was all they had. I mainly bought it because I had never actually held a Mattel figure. I wanted to look at it and pose it, etc. to make sure I really wanted to commit. I'm happy to say I like it. Much more poseable/playable. Good head scan. Just all around well-done.
Now, there is one thing Mattel could work on... I think their weapons suck. Jakks definitely did a better job on the tables, ladders, chairs, etc. Mattel needs to step it up as far as weapons are concerned. Clothing though is top notch.
Oh, one other thing... honestly, I don't see the point of having the regular style figs. The Elites are better. The upcoming ring is Elite scale. The legends line is Elite (I think Entrance Greats should have been too). Why not just go all Elite? The DAs and RAs from Jakks were more distinctive than the Elite from regular. The regular style are just like elites but with less articulation. The DAs and RAs from Jakks were different in their scans, movement, style, everything. I know some people like the regular style and I mean no disrespect, however; I just think it's strange that the Legends and the Defining Moments lines are Elite and Entrance Greats are regular... but whatever.
I'm really excited about Mattel either way. Hopefully their strong effort stays consistent.

Plus, Elite's aren't always the best as often times their ankles are loose and such. Plus keeping it Basic keeps prices lower for those who don't wanna spend 15 dollars a figure. All in all.. Mattel did what they wanted to do again. Get someone to buy their product by going over the top with it again! This time.. It was in the form of Macho Man and the Ultimate Warrior!! Next time.. It'll be in the form of Owen Hart (prolly not), but a guy can hope can't he? I really do expect Jakks to get Owen signed though.

Welcome aboard. You're right... Mattel has brought their "A" game.
But to your other point... Not everybody likes all the extra joints and articulation that the Elites have, so rather than making fans accept it they give options. You said yourself they give the people what they want. When they have polls on here it's usually close to 50/50 between the two.
Honestly I prefer the basic but still buy elite for fix up & the accessories for my basic collection.

It just sucks when they make a certain figure one style when a some fans wanted the figure but in the opposite style.

I'm a believer now I picked up the first Stone Cold I could find.

Ok, just FYI... I know you are new...so I'll fill you in. Elites, Basics, Legends, Def. Moments, etc are all within scale of one another. The Elite ring will be in scale with all the figures that mattel are making. The biggest difference with all the different lines are the amount of articulation as well as the accessories featured with the figure. So some people buy the different styles because they all match up with one another VERY well.
Other than that, welcome to the Mattel era of the WWE figures world. Like you, I was very upset when I heard that Mattel had won the license from the WWE and was accepting that my collecting career was coming to an end. However, after seeing the protos and buying Basic and Elite series one in stores...I actually became more hooked on my collecting hobby than I had been the last couple of years with Jakks. Overall, Mattel has just simply put out a superior product than what Jakks offered. From the figure selection, to the accessories, to the most important factor... ALL the figures are in correct scale! No more Rey Jr staring eye to eye with Kane or the Big Show! No more Undertaker staring face to face with HBK! Give it a real effort, and you will realize how truly amazing these figures are and have been so far.

I think they would make them both elite and basic if the talent is still with WWE and if we asked for it, I would have loved a hurricane elite but he isnt with the company no more.

I was open to Mattel from the beginning not that I dislike Jakks it's just Mattel has alot more experience Jakks would scrap figures, leave out certain details or use bad part choices near the end that I was ready for something new not to mention how detailed some of Mattel's other products are such as the DC Universe figures and The Masters of the Universe lines I knew we'd get a good product from them

I think they made the Basics more for kids rather then collectors. Parents have a hard time shelling out almost 20$ for one action figure their kid is going to beat to hell or play with. A nice 10$ toy is a reasonable alternative. I do agree Mattel brought their "A" game and is going in full force. I hope they keep going and don't slow down with their prosuct overall. I do hope the release schedule slows down though.

I think having the option of Basics/Elites is great for many of the reasons aforementioned...
but as the OP said, having EGs in Basic style is questionable. With all the detail/accessories they contain- they are more in line with the Elite style than the basic. I wish the EGs were Elite, but nonetheless they are still damn good figures.
From a former JAKKS CS Collector who was livid about the switch - did JAKKS ever make anything like the EG Jericho? Not even close! Welcome aboard.

When the Mattel's first starting hitting I was pretty pissed bout the face scans. I thought they looked childish (i.e. Carlito, Primo, and Finlay from 2Pack S2)... especially Finlay, it was horrible. But it seems like Mattel has fixed that within a matter of a few months. Check out Fit's new scan on the Elite. Check out the scans of Pillman, Bulldog, Dusty, etc....
IMO, the only thing JAKKS had Mattel beat on besides quanity was the face scans - however, Mattel has obviously got their crap together and are close to being on par with JAKKS now.
