I am going to be Using this Thread to show you guys my Customs. 1st: I have been trying to make this for awhile now...It is my first custom ever, I have never painted or swapped bodies before. I used a RA 41 Series John Cena Head, A DA Series 14 Curt Hawkins torso and Arms, And a DA Gregory Helms set of legs... Here it is:     What do you guys think? |

The figure looks really good for your first the paint seems good from what I can see, I like how you have made no paint marks on the body so for your first its really good , on a side note maybe changed the scan for a more heel/ angry look he had back in the days when he was the " prototype "

You need to learn to paint straighter as shown on the boots, a quicker way to do so is use tape, the rest of the painting looks tidy though.
Other than that, it looks pretty good for a first.

I think it looks awesome for a first. Way better than my first I can tell you that. I especially like the wristbands. They're very smooth and the lines look very straight. In fact, your painting looks overall very smooth which is not so easy to do when you're working with red and white. Kneepads look great.
Just some things others have said -- Linework could use some improving on the boots and tights but you've acknowledged that you're going to work on that so no biggie. I would suggest using either a very fine detail brush or a toothpick to paint the laces as these will allow you to control how much paint goes on the figure. Just take your time and do it in short intervals -- I find if I work on just one thing at a time the finished product comes out much better. Lastly, the head is a little off era-wise, Cena's first head would have been a much better choice but considering it's the same guy I really cant fault you for that. It still looks like him.
Overall awesome job, keep up the good work, hone your skills, you could be something awesome!

I'll be honest... this is better than 95% of other "1st customs" on this board. I will applaud you on a few things:
1. You chose nice paint. I HATE the dry, crackly Walmart paints. Your paint has a nice thick, even layer. Also, your white completely covers the bottom layer of color (which if the figure is Helms... it's black).
2. The lines on the wristbands look great! Wristbands are sooo small, it is difficult to get those lines correct.
3. You've taken criticism well so far in this post.
4. You chose an original figure. It's evident most times, people choose an "ultra-popular" character for their first custom (i.e. Owen, Surfer Sting, Masked CM, Macho), but it seems like you made this out of a general liking for the character.
5. For what it's worth, TheAxeHennig gives you two thumbs up. Invest in a 10/0 or 20/0 sized brush, and clean your lines up. Tape can be difficult, and can also adversely affect your paintjob (lift paint, have paint roll under the tape, etc.). I'd say, start with a small "finishing touch" brush.

Thats means alot to me coming from you, It is funny you say "Crackly Walmart Brands" cause I had used Folk art paint from Walmart, I went out tonight and bought Apple Barreal paint and sealer so you guys cna expect alot more Good Quality customs from me, I am actually working on my next custom At the Moment. |

Who is your next custom? I'm interested to see your progression throughout these next few customs. Like I mentioned previously, you have talent, and your first custom looks great. Invest in a tiny, brush, like I said, and see how things progress.

I stand by my previous post and say that you could definitely be something awesome customizing-wise!
This Hogan is very simple, but I feel that customs don't necessarily have to be something complicated and overly technical to look good. This is simple and executed well. Parts look great. A simple, very effective custom/fixup that's a perfect project for someone who is just getting into customizing to do.

Anyone Got any Suggestions/Requests for a Figure I should make?
I am trying to make a new custom.
But am not sure what to do.
