Completely unbiased report from NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger:
....and I LOVE IT!!
I don’t even think the NFL MVP race should even be a conversation right now.
Of course, that conversation always comes down to how one defines a “Most Valuable Player.” Is it the best player in the league? Is it the best player on the best team? Is it the player who makes his team the best team?
Well, whatever category you want to use to define it, Michael Vick is the at the top of the list.
Vick makes the Eagles a playoff team. He’s not only the best player on his team, but the entire league. If the players voted on the award, it might be near-unanimous that Vick wins. Is there a “wow” factor we need to consider? No one has bigger plays, or more of them, than Vick, who has put out a highlight reel this season. No other quarterback can run for 613 yards and eight touchdowns the way he has.
Vick also came out of nowhere to do it, and his story is the most compelling since what we watched unfold with Kurt Warner. And the conclusion of his season isn’t even written yet.
But, more than anything, in my mind the biggest reason why Vick is the MVP is that no other player in this league dictates what a defense can or can’t do more than Vick.
Last week’s comeback against the Giants was a perfect example. You just can’t defend Vick in man-to-man defense. He’ll make players miss, like the way he ducked underneath Deon Grant for a 35-yard run or went around the edge on Aaron Ross and a seven-man rush for 33 yards. No one makes you pay more dearly for running coverages that you can run against any other quarterback in the league. You can’t run them against Vick, and Andy Reid knows it.
None of this should take anything away from what Tom Brady has done this season. That just goes to show how unbelievable Vick has been. As good — and at times perfect – as Brady has been, Vick is still the MVP.
Swiss Mount S**tstorm, here we go! I just know that no one else will agree with this, but I do - and that's what matters to me specifically. But discuss..
