MMAJunkie Heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is a free agent. A little more than one year after Duffee burst onto the UFC scene with a seven-second knockout of Tim Hague, the 24-year-old is no longer employed by the sport's largest mixed martial arts promotion. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the UFC's decision from multiple sources with knowledge of the move, and Duffee's manager, Alex Davis, confirmed the report. Davis declined to comment further on the matter or speculate as to the reason behind the UFC's decision. Duffee wasn't immediately available for comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com. Following his record-breaking win over Hague (officially the fastest knockout in UFC's history), Duffee was defeated by Mike Russow at UFC 114 in one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the organization's history. Duffee was in control of the fight for the first two-and-a-half rounds before a right hand left him flat on his back. Nevertheless, Duffee was targeted for a bout with Jon Madsen at October's UFC 121 event. A lingering knee injury forced him out of the planned contest, and Gilbert Yvel stepped in to take the fight. It's not immediately evident what Duffee plans to do next, but the massive heavyweight will undoubtedly demand interest from organizations both U.S-based and overseas. ---------------------- WTF? Wonder why. I don't think its just because of his loss a few months back...

It has something to do with his reasoning for pulling out of the fight. I think he got caught lying about an injury.

It's probably NOT that reason, but someone who I know said that he lied about an injury twice. Either that, or his sh*tty attitude.

To be quite honest, I think this is good for him. He's a wrecking ball but he's still young and still green. Some work outside of the UFC's elite roster should do him well. He'll be back.

I don't know. He's said lots of bad things things about UFC and the way they were handling him. He even complained about the pay he was getting before UFC 114.

Quote from Duffee's manager...
"Well, I'm not sure exactly what the problem or problems were. I tried hard to avoid, but Dana wasn't listening. It unfortunate, but Todd's an ass."

"He's an ass," may be one of the more unique reasons to be released, however if that is the case then he has nobody to blame but himself.

"I didn't think I was ready to be put behind the hype machine that the UFC creates, I think you understand what I mean. If you go fight a tough opponent in Japan, you just went and fought a tough opponent in Japan. If you fight him the UFC, the whole world explodes over that situation, and you're really under a spotlight and you're really being critiqued. If it happens in Japan, nobody even really hears about it sometimes. I'm just using Japan, I mean internationally, so to speak. And plus I wanted to travel and get some more experience about what it was to be a real fighter I wanted to earn it."

Let me eat."?

Honestly, it sounds like he was brought down to size by a guy who by all means he should've beaten, and started feeling like he was in over his head.
But who knows, maybe his "explanation" was true. But it sounded like more of a cop put to me. I don't see the logic in a guy like Duffee, not wanting to fight for the UFC because he didn't want the hype.

How horrible does your self confidence have to be if even YOU don't believe in your own hype.
