In 2001, Extreme Championship Wrestling folded, leaving behind countless memories and a wild cult following. In arenas around the nation, fans chanted for ECW.
“E-C Dub!”
They chanted it to Tommy Dreamer. They chanted it to Rob Van Dam. They chanted it to the Dudley Boyz. They chanted it to every hardcore aspect of the show. They chanted for it out of respect, passion, and lustfulness.
They kept chanting, and Vince McMahon kept listening…
Vince toyed with the idea of having a hardcore reunion, but he just could not pull the trigger; however, the release of one DVD changed everything. The Rise and Fall of ECW was released and was one of the biggest success stories in wrestling history. Everyone wanted ECW and Vince finally gave it to them…
Extreme Championship Wrestling One Night Stand June 12, 2005
1. Lance Storm defeated Chris Jericho 2. Super Crazy defeated Tajiri and Little Guido 3. Rey Mysterio defeated Psychosis 4. Sabu defeated Rhyno 5. Chris Benoit defeated Eddie Guerrero 6. Mike Awesome defeated Masato Tanaka 7. The Dudley Boyz defeated Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman
These seven matches, along with appearance from ECW Alumni: Rob Van Dam, Dawn Marie, Justin Credible, Jason, The Sinister Minister, Mikey Whipwreck, Tracy Smothers, Tony Mamaluke, Big Guido, J.T. Smith, Bill Alfonso, Pitbull #1, Al Snow, Mick Foley, Stevie Richards, Hollywood Nova, The Blue Meanie, and Joey Styles.
The pay-per-view was a success.
Five months later a shocking announcement was made on Raw.
January 7, 2006…FX is being taken to the EXTREME!

Hammer's Dirt Sheet News Week of January 1, 2006
- The debut of Extreme Championship Wrestling on the FX Network has created a lot of buzz. FX is said to be extremely eager with bringing the program on their network, as they feel the show will do well in ratings. Vince McMahon, on the other hand, is said to be a little anxious if the project will work.
- Paul Heyman, as expected, will be heading the creative aspect of ECW on FX. McMahon has assigned Paul Heyman a small staff to help him stay in the “right direction.” Additionally, Stephanie McMahon was been personally selected to oversee the entire project.
-A few months ago, there was a report that Rhyno and The Dudley Boyz were leaving World Wrestling Entertainment. However, Paul Heyman has been able to talk them into staying with the company. All three men are expected to play a huge role in the revival process.
- There is a rumor going around that Raven has signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. It should be noted that Raven did not appear on the last Total Nonstop Action event.
- It is being reported that Rob Van Dam has been medically cleared to wrestle again.

I don't see the point in calling this a retirement diary, because you may very well get the itch to write again in the future. Regardless I shall be reading this as long as you do it right and don't just make this ECW-lite like WWE did.

ECW on FX January 7 2006
“This is…Extreme…Championship…Wrestling!”
The crowd chants, “ECW!” as Joey Styles welcomes us to the debut episode of ECW on FX! He introduces Paul Heyman who receives an incredible ovation. Heyman says that a lot of people have questions to what exactly ECW on FX will be. Heyman promises more of the nonstop action, the violence, and risky product that made ECW what it is today!
Rhyno makes his way to the ring and he is holding the ECW Heavyweight and Television Championships! Rhyno says that he is the most unstoppable force in professional wrestling today, and he says no one can stop him! Suddenly, the lights dim and a familiar tune begin to play. The cameras pan the arena until suddenly he, Sandman, is spotted! Sandman slowly makes his way to the ring with a Singapore cane in his hand. He takes a wild swing at Rhyno and the two men start to brawl. Suddenly, the lights go off and when they turn back on, Sabu is the ring! Sabu has a chair, which he throws at Sandman before attacking Rhyno. Rhyno flees the ring as Paul Heyman announces that tonight Rhyno will defend both the ECW Television Championship and Heavyweight Championship in a two pinfall four corners match!
-----------
Opening Contest: Lance Storm defeats Super Crazy
Justin Credible and Dawn Marie accompanied Storm to the ring, and Mikey Whipwreck came to ringside with Super Crazy. Storm and Crazy put on a tremendous contest, which included several high risk maneuvers. Lance Storm went for a beautiful crossbody, but Super Crazy blocked it with a drop kick. Super Crazy was going for the Triple Moonsaults, but Justin Credible whacked him in the head with a trashcan, which allowed Storm to level him with a super kick for the win!
Following the match, Mikey Whipwreck tried to intervene, but Storm and Credible really got the best of him. This brought out Jerry Lynn who rushed to the ring and scared away The Impact Players!
Mick Foley is shown in the back. Joel Gertner rushes into Foley and asks him if he is competing in tonight’s main event. Mick Foley says he is here in ECW, but he is not here to wrestle in tonight’s main event. He tells Gertner he will not be in a match at all tonight, but everyone can expect something big soon.
----------
Tommy Dreamer is shown in the back with Terry Funk! Dreamer confirms a rumor that he is currently injured and cannot compete tonight, but he is here for support. Suddenly, Mick Foley races in and starts attacking Tommy Dreamer. Terry Funk attempts to break up the fight, but Mick Foley low blows him. Foley has both men on the floor, as he whispers, “Bang…bang.”
Match Two: Mike Awesome defeats Chris Benoit
This match was simply brutal. Both men worked incredibly stiff, which created an intense, dangerous, entertaining match. Chris Benoit nailed Mike Awesome with a beautiful supplex on the apron of the ring to the floor. In the end though, Mike Awesome mounted a comeback and put Benoit away with the Awesome Bomb!
Following the contest, Mike Awesome continues to attack Chris Benoit, but the Dudley Boyz make the save. The crowd chants for tables, but Awesome has escape the duo before any weapons could be brought into the ring.
----------
Co. Main Event: Rhyno defeats Sabu, Sandman and Rob Van Dam ECW Television Championship
Rob Van Dam was revealed to be the mystery fourth man for this double pinfall double title match. The first fall was for the ECW Television Championship, and these four men went all out. Van Dam brought a lot of emption to this contest, which was highlighted as Rhyno focused a lot of his attack on Van Dam’s previously injured knee. Sabu and Sandman brought a lot of weapons into this match, which really got the crowd excited. The match ended when Rhyno hit Sabu with a Gore through a table to retain the ECW Television Championship.
----------
Main Event: Rob Van Dam defeats Rhyno, Sabu and Sandman ECW Heavyweight Championship
This match went nearly another ten minutes and had a lot of near falls. Sabu put himself out of the match quickly as he went for an Arabian Facebuster off the top rope to Sandman, who was planted on a guardrail, but Sabu missed when the Sandman moved out of the way. Rhyno then put Sandman through a table with the Rhynodriver! Van Dam broke up the pinfall attempt and it was down between Van Dam and Rhyno. Rhyno went for a Gore, Van Dam rolled out of the way, threw a chair at him and nailed him with a Van Daminator! Van Dam than climbed to the top rope and nailed the Five Star Frog Splash to win the ECW Heavyweight Championship!
Rob Van Dam is celebrating the biggest victory of his career, when suddenly the lights go dim. A blue hue falls over the entrance ramp as the smoke begins to gather. An unfamiliar guitar riff rips as the crowd eagerly waits to see who is coming. A very familiar face appears as ECW on FX goes off the air.

Hammers' Dirt Sheet
- ECW on FX was said to be a blockbuster in ratings; however, the feeling is that the show will not be a huge draw for long.
- Paul Heyman was said to be extremely happy leaving the show on Saturday. He had nearly complete control over the show. His biggest disappointment was the lack of overall development, which should increase this week.
- Mick Foley's heel turn will set the roots for a major angle.
- Dozens of wrestlers are still waiting to debut on television; however, many ECW alumni and a few fresh faces have been working ECW house shows, which may indicate they signed full contracts.

-Expected the classic ECW stars to kick off the show. Rhyno/Sandman should be interesting. -Storm over Crazy was the right call. Hope Storm has a nice run here in ECW. -Awesome over Benoit was pretty awesome either way. (No pun intended). -Love the double title match and I expected RVD and Rhyno to win both. -Good show; hope you add a bit more to the format. Hope this continues a long time. And I really hope that Rated R is right then you may just stay.

ECW on FX January 14, 2006
[The following is what occurred after ECW on FX went off the air last week]
Rob Van Dam is celebrating the biggest victory of his career, when suddenly the lights go dim. A blue hue falls over the entrance ramp as the smoke begins to gather. An unfamiliar guitar riff rips as the crowd eagerly waits to see who is coming. A very familiar face appears as ECW on FX goes off the air.
RAVEN! Raven is standing tall and the crowd is going insane! Raven stares deeply into the eyes of the new ECW Heavyweight Champion as the competitors of the main event stand stunned…
“This is…Extreme…Championship…Wrestling!”
The new ECW Heavyweight Champion, Rob Van Dam, kicks off the second edition of ECW on FX! Van Dam says it is a great honor to be the ECW Heavyweight Champion, but he has many concerns. He addresses the returning Raven and admits he is anxious to see why he has decided to return. He also confirms that although he defeated Rhyno last week, he knows the war with the Man Beast is far from over.
Paul Heyman comes out to a welcoming ovation. Heyman confirms he is not sure why Raven has returned to ECW, but he is glad to have him back. Heyman warns Van Dam that there are several people gunning for his championship; however, they will all have to wait. Heyman announces Rhyno does indeed have a rematch clause and he is using it tonight!
Rhyno sneaks into the ring from the crowd and begins to beat down Rob Van Dam. Suddenly, a referee enters the ring and the bell tolls!
Rob Van Dam (c) versus Rhyno ECW Heavyweight Championship Match
The crowd is nearly stunned, yet still extremely energetic, that the championship rematch is now happening. Rhyno keeps an early advantage against Van Dam. Rhyno focuses his attack onto the back of Rob Van Dam and uses many power moves to weaken Van Dam. Eventually, Van Dam mounts a comeback and the match is back to square one. The two continue to battle back and forth as ECW on FX takes its first commercial break.
-----------
As ECW on FX returns, Rhyno is back in control. During the break, a table was sent up on the outside, and it will surely come into play soon. Rhyno slams Van Dam into an exposed turnbuckle and then throws him onto the table. Rhyno attempts the Rhynodriver, but Van Dam fights out of the hold, back dropping Rhyno off the table and to the floor. Van Dam slams Rhyno into the guardrails and uses a chair to beat down Rhyno. Van Dam throws Rhyno on top of the table and climbs to the top rope. Van Dam is looking for the Five Star Frog Splash, but suddenly the lights go out!
When the lights come back on, Raven is standing in the ring! Van Dam changes his focus of attack towards Raven and the two men begin to brawl. Suddenly, the Sandman dramatically makes his way through the crowd and he has a Singapore cane in hand! The Sandman viciously attacks Raven and the two men brawl outside of the ring. Meanwhile, a healed Rhyno enters the ring and catches an off guard Van Dam with the Gore! Rhyno hooks the leg and gets the three count!
Winner and NEW ECW Heavyweight Champion: Rhyno The match ended via pinfall at 17:34 A
The crowd is absolutely stunned that Rhyno has won back the ECW Heavyweight Championship and begin to chant “bullsh*t!” Meanwhile, Raven obtains an upper hand on the outside and drills Sandman to the floor with the Even Flow! Rhyno celebrates his victory as Raven slithers to the back.
----------
In the back, Rob Van Dam is going absolutely insane, because he has just lost the ECW Heavyweight Championship seven days after winning it.
Mick Foley makes his way to the ring to an extremely negative ovation. Foley says that last week he attacked Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk. Foley says that the two hardcore icons deserved the beating because they represent everything that is wrong in professional wrestling. Foley says that Funk was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but now he finds the need to sacrifice his body and life every time he enters the ring just to try and enter the fans during a bathroom break. He blames Tommy Dreamer for Terry Funk’s actions, claiming Dreamer is the devil on his shoulder telling him to put his body on the line. Foley says he will not stop until he knows he can cure professional wrestling of this poison.
Mick Foley begins to leave the ring as Joey Styles informs the viewing audience that Tommy Dreamer is not here tonight as he is caring for Terry Funk, who is currently in a hospital.
----------
Chris Benoit versus Lance Storm w/ Justin Credible & Dawn Marie
Although the match seemed “thrown together” Benoit and Storm put on a five star contest. These two went back and forth and neither man could gain a clear advantage. Benoit did eventually pick up a slight advantage, but Lance Storm was still able to always come back with a solid counter. In the end, Justin Credible interfered, which allowed Lance Storm to win the match with a roll up
Winner: Lance Storm The match ended via pinfall at 8:45 A+
Following the contest, The Impact Players began to attack Chris Benoit. Jerry Lynn, much like last weeks, races out to make the save, but Storm and Credible decided that they want nothing to do with Lynn tonight.
In the back, Rob Van Dam is shown yelling in Paul Heyman’s office as security keeps the two men separated.
----------
Mike Awesome makes his way to the ring. He said last week he defeated Chris Benoit and he thought that was a great achievement. However, now that he saw a mediocre wrestler like Lance Storm can do the same, he no longer feels that he did anything that special. Therefore, he initiates an open challenge!
Mike Awesome versus The Dudley Boyz
Finally, the Dudley Boyz have made their long awaited return to ECW! Bubba and Devon look to be in tremendous shape and the crowd is really rallying behind their heroes of tag team wrestling. Mike Awesome does his best to counter the combine power of the Dudley Boyz, but it is just too much of a task to handle. The Dudley Boyz quickly put away Mike Awesome with the 3D!
Winners: The Dudley Boyz The match ended via pinfall at 3:13 C
The Dudley Boyz’ post match celebration is quickly halted as Paul Heyman, who has a black eye, is shown on the screen. Heyman welcomes the Dudley Boyz to ECW, and then apologizes for cutting their celebration so short.
Heyman reminds everyone that earlier tonight Rhyno fairly defeated Rob Van Dam to once again win the ECW Heavyweight Championship. Heyman says that Van Dam was extremely frustrated over the match, which caused a heated confrontation between himself and Mr. Van Dam. He admits that Van Dam gave him the black eye, but says that he is the one who will get the last laugh. Paul Heyman announces that Rob Van Dam has been suspended from ECW until further notice! |

-Rhyno is looking very meaningful here on ECW. Him as top dog here should be great. -I always thought Storm deserved a good push. Glad he's getting it. -Dudleys over Mike Awesome was expected as it's two-on-one here. -RVD suspended is interesting as this will jeapordize his rematch clause. -Good show; can't wait for more!

ECWonFX: Raven returning is awesome. Shocked too see Rhyno regain the title so quickly here but I geuss it's all good for a storyine with RVD and Raven. I could see a tag match at a later date between the four men involved in the opening match. Mick Foley's promo pretty much explains all, good job on that looking forward to see what unfolds. Storm over Beniot is cool with me as id Lynn making the post-match save, another possible tag match for a later date. Rob Van Dam's little segments are great to build the storyline. Haha, I love Awesome making a challenge because Storm beat Beniot, pretty clever. A Handicap match is all good with the Dudleyz returning and winning. Rob Van Dam suspended until further notice? wow, great way to end this weeks show this diary has already started off strong, nice work an enjoyable read.
