For years I have been called a hater by my friends. On Facebook I commented on a link about Drake and Lil' Wayne. I'm not the biggest fan of those guys and sometimes I let it be known. They're response is usually how I'm a "hater" and I need to stop "hating" on these guys...Which I think is absolute bullshizzel, I dislike those rappers but how does that make me a hater? I'm just speaking my mind. Plus, how could anybody not comment if those 2 are just ridiculous with their comments.
So I guess the point of the story is what exactly in your mind is a hater. I know if you google the "definition" you'll find differing accounts, but what exactly is a "hater" in your mind? And have you had experiences where you've been called this contradictory word???

You're taking the whole thing to serious, it just means you don't like what they like it that simple. Its nothing bad dude. Like if someone says Shogun sucks, I'm gonna call them a hater, people call me a hate because of how much I dislike Lesnar.

As far as I'm concerned, a Hater is someone who acts negatively or makes negative comments in such a way that benefits no one. For instance, in your situation with the Facebook comment, if you basically jumped into that comment thread to say, "Drake and Lil Wayne suck," then you're being a hater. No one was benefited by your declaration.  |

'haters' is a term that people made up to make them able to ignore/demean anything others say that argues that the topic at hand blows chunks.
it's a cop out so that people don't have to face the fact that maybe drake and lil wayne really do suck and their opinions are crap...but of course, if you say that 'u justa haterzzz'

As said above, a hater is someone who goes out of their way, and makes an extra effort to declare their disdain for nearly every little thing. If I had to use different termanology to describe the word "hater", I'd probably use the term "Pessimistic Critic." |

If I let it be known I'm labeled a hater for whatever reason...If they don't like something that I like, I'm not gonna talk about them "hating"...so they just label me a hater by default |

I think the line between "hater" and "annoying pest" are very thin. If you're going out of your way to tell people that something they like sucks, you're just being annoying. Simple as that.
