Linda and Vince McMahon's personal bankruptcy, a key element in the rags-to-riches tale propelling her surging candidacy for the U.S. Senate, is a mystery the candidate herself has steadfastly refused to clarify. But tax records obtained by Hearst Connecticut Newspapers and statements provided by the campaign offer voters for the first time a glimpse of the McMahons' financial troubles. The couple filed for personal bankruptcy in 1976 after amassing, according to the campaign, about $1 million in debt. www.ctpost.com/local/article/McMahons-bankruptcy-a-murky-chapter-in-her-682114.php#page-1

I'm guessing this is hurting them more than it is helping in the "rags to riches" story?
Is the fact that it was over thirty years ago an issue? I mean look at them now. WWE has been on top (Which I'm assuming also means they are wealthy) for easily 25+years. I guess $1 million in personal debt is a huge deal though.

This should help her, because she was broke and she pulled herself up and became a millionaire. Good story. Her opponent though will use this to attack her, but all she has to do is point back at him and say he lied about his military service. She gives the voters a choice. Which is worse? Going broke and then working your way up the success ladder or lying about your military record? I think the voters know that answer, which is why Linda is gaining every day in the polls.
