It's about time for another UFC event thread, and this time it's for a FREE CARD on SPIKE! The broadcast starts at 8pm ET on Saturday night and will run about 3 hours long. Great card, too.
UFC 120 ''BISPING VS. AKIYAMA'', 10/16/2010 (Spike TV/ESPN-UK)
O² Arena, London England
1. Light Heavyweight bout: James McSweeney vs. Fabio Maldonado
2. Lightweight bout: Spencer Fisher vs. Kurt Warburton
3. Lightweight bout: Paul Sass vs. Mark Holst
4. Heavyweight bout: Rob Broughton vs. Vinicius Queiroz
5. Light Heavyweight bout: Cyrille Diabaté vs. Alexander Gustafsson
6. Welterweight bout: James Wilks vs. Claude Patrick
7. Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne
8. Welterweight bout: John Hathaway vs. Mike Pyle
9. Welterweight bout: Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit
10. Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
You have an awesome card with a bunch of very good UK fighters. I am very excited to see Hathaway back in there again after totally OWNING Diego Sanchez with superior wrestling. I think he should actually be able to finish Pyle in the first round.
Dan Hardy is finally back after a loss to GSP. He obviously has tons of holes in his game, and I hope he was able to fix them because he's going to need it against Condit. Condit will probably NEVER be a top-5 fighter, but he sure as hell is very tough and very well rounded. With that being said, I think Condit will try and stand with Hardy to prove a point, but it will backfire and Hardy will get the win.
Bisping is just hilarious. I don't think this guy is even NEARLY as good as he thinks. He talked all that sh*t for the fight against Henderson, and got completely mauled and made a fool of. He even looked very sluggish against Denis Kang in the first round of their fight, and was pretty much saved by the bell all 3 rounds against Wanderlei. Akiyama has one of the best chins in the sport right now and isn't afraid to strike OR using his world-class judo. I think he'll be too much for Bisping and he'll take the win. Don't let the submission loss over Leben fool you. Akiyama was winning that fight and even rocked Leben, which is hard for ANYONE to do. Go, SEXYAMA!
A few other thoughts:
- Happy to see Team Nogueira member Fabio Maldonado make his UFC debut. I can't ing STAND McSweeney, so I hope it'll be lights out for "The Hammer".
- Paul Sass, motherers. 10-0 with 9 submission wins and 8 in the first round. Glad to see a Brit with some sick submission skills. Hope he wins and his fight makes TV.
- FINALLY, former Sengoku/Pancrase fighter Stanislav Nedkov makes his UFC debut. I've been waiting for this for a couple years now. 11-0 with 5 KO's and 4 submissions. Look out for this guy, he's a serious grappler with BAD intentions with every strike he throws.
- My man Cyrille Diabaté makes his 2nd appearance for the UFC and it seems kind of odd to me. He's taking a step down in competition and he's STILL on the prelims. Oh well. I expect nothing but good things and a quick finish so he can move up in competition like he deserves.
- Kongo is once again stuck in limbo fighting a relative newcomer to the UFC who has only had one fight in the company. Don't sleep on Travis Browne, though. He's as dangerous as they come, but I think Kongo's aggression will just be too much for him.
And, by the way. Don't ing complain about this card being "Another card with no title fights/big names". you. It's a FREE card on TV! Why complain? Next week, you'll get your fix with Lesnar.
