09/09/07 | Target Center | Minneapolis, MN | ECW on SciFi Taping (09/11/07)
ECW on SciFi opens up with a video recap of what happened on last week's edition. It was a last chance match for CM Punk to win the ECW Championship from John Morrison and he did succeed. Punk celebrating with the ECW Championship ends the package and the usual ECW opening airs.
After the package, Joey Styles & Tazz welcome us to another edition of ECW on SciFi. Styles proclaims that the new era of Extreme Championship Wrestling has begun as CM Punk is our new ECW Champion. Before Styles could say anything else, he is interrupted by our new Champion, CM Punk. Punk tries to say a few words, but is overwhelmed by a 'CM Punk' chant. The crowd then quiets and the champion is ready to speak. Punk comments about the match and how he respects Morrison as a competitor, but he has finally climbed the mountain and he now holds major gold here on ECW. Punk adds that with his championship win, the new 'clean' era of ECW has been ushered in. He tells the crowd that even though they may be upset about this, the era of extreme has officially died with his title win. The crowd boos, as Punk expected, but he seems to have something to make up for it. He tells the crowd that even though the extreme era has come and gone, the pure wrestling era has just begun. This program is now geared towards real wrestling and with the talent on the roster, it won't be hard to do so. Punk puts over a few including Elijah Burke and Tommy Dreamer, guys who can really work.
Before the champion can continue, Armando Estrada, the ECW General Manager, interrupts him as the crowd boos. Estrada first off congratulates Punk on his championship win last week. But, if Punk wants to usher in the pure, clean era of Extreme Championship Wrestling, then he is going to have to be the prime example. So, Armando Estrada is setting up a mini-'tournament' to determine the number one contender for Punk's championship at Unforgiven! Three matches will be held tonight and then next week, a triple threat will take place to determine the tournament's winner. The matches are as followed; The Miz vs. Tommy Dreamer, Big Daddy V vs. Balls Mahoney and our main event, Elijah Burke vs. Stevie Richards. Estrada bids Punk ado for the evening as Punk celebrates with the crowd more.
ECW Championship #1 Contender Mini-'Tournament' Qualifier The Miz (w/Extreme Expose) def. Tommy Dreamer via Mizard of Oz The Miz had his hands full with Extreme Expose on one side and his opponent, Tommy Dreamer on the other. Match wasn't too long and Miz basically made quick work out of Dreamer. Dreamer had a few flurries of offense, but nothing to write home about. The Miz then celebrated his victory with Extreme Expose. He will move on to the triple threat match next week to determine the #1 contender.
Following the commercial break, we were greeted by Elijah Burke, who is standing by backstage. He talks about how ever since he came to ECW, he has been under appreciated in the ring, as he is one of the best of all-time. Tonight, he will prove just how good he is when he defeats Stevie Richards, then he will make sure CM Punk knows the score by the end of the show. Burke notes that he always has something up his sleeve and you may just see something tonight.
Joey Styles sends us to some video clips of last week's main event, where CM Punk defeated John Morrison for the ECW Championship. Pretty much the same video clip that had opened the show.
ECW Championship #1 Contender Mini-'Tournament' Qualifier Big Daddy V (w/Matt Striker) def. Balls Mahoney via Ghetto Drop This was more of a squash match than anything. Matt Striker ran his mouth the entire time that V was destroying Mahoney. Balls barely got a few rights and lefts in, as Big Daddy V put him down fairly fast. The crowd was dead for the entire match, which seemed to only last about 2 minutes.
Afterward, Matt Striker got right into Mahoney's face and told the world that this is what Big Daddy V is planning to do to whoever he has to face next week and then what he will do to CM Punk at Unforgiven when he wins the #1 Contendership. V the nailed Sidewalk Slam to add insult to injury while Striker praised him to the crowd.
We return to see CM Punk making his way down to the ringside. He tells the crowd that he doesn't want to miss the main event, considering he was insulted by Burke's comments. He is ready to see what Elijah actually has.
ECW Championship #1 Contender Mini-'Tournament' Qualifier Elijah Burke def. Stevie Richards via Elijah Express Pretty competitive match between Burke & Richards. The crowd wasn't expecting Richards to put up such a good fight, but he stayed strong and got himself a few near falls. Burke eventually took full advantage and didn't look back from that point. He added the Elijah Express for good measure and to concrete himself into next week's main event.
Elijah celebrated his impressive win right in front of Punk, who raised his championship high. Burke invited Punk into the ring to do some battle, but before CM had the chance, he was jumped from behind by the returning Mike Knox. We haven't seen Knox for sometime and he has come to help Elijah Burke take care of CM Punk. Knox destroyed Punk with a Knox-Out and Burke added an Elijah Express to insult the champion. ECW comes to a close with Burke & Knox standing tall over Punk to boos from the crowd.

ECW on Sci-Fi: Tuesday 9th September 2007...Alright, decent opening promo to get things kicked off in the right manner, with CM Punk as new ECW World Champion it should bring up the best in all heel superstars on the ECW roster. One note before I continue is that I hope you bring back the Major Brothers rather than let them go to SmackDown! as Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. Interesting mini-tournament setout, but three matches is odd. The Miz beating Tommy Dreamer was alright, not too bad a decision and I hope you bring storyline out of Miz rather than just let him have Extreme Exposé as his ring rats. Elijah Burke's interview sort of made it slightly clear as to who was going to win. Big Daddy V squashing Balls Mahoney is fine, could be a good match if Balls was given chance. Big Daddy V was an underrated gimmick, honestly. I wish he got used better, not in squash matches and random title bouts in which he was wasted. Lastly, not sure about the main event. Elijah beating Stevie Richards was obvious, no problem; interesting with Mike Knox in the ring too. A decent show overall, but all of the heels won this tournament. All of the Originals were squashed. Also lacks stars like Kevin Thorn and The Boogeyman; both of which were becoming better wrestlers in the ring. I hope ECW gets increased in roster size anyways. It was an alright start, but your direction going into Unforgiven in six/thirteen days baffles me.

-Really digging this layout. -Fine opening promo. Turning Punk heel? I wouldn't do that yet. I'd wait to at least 2008. -Miz beating Dreamer is a shocker to me. Really thought Dreamer was going to win. Just don't book Punk vs. Miz. I'm begging you. -Big Daddy V winning is alright. -Burke winning is pretty good. Just hated that all the heels won. Next week's main event will be un-interesting with no eon to cheer for. -HOLY MIKE KNOX RETURN. -Good show, but really not fond of all the heels winning.

Glorious. I absolutely loved ECW in this time period, especially the Punk/Morrison feud. Hopefully you can keep the momentum rolling!
I love the fact that Elijah is the number one contender. Elijah/Punk is such an exciting prospect. I will be reading with a keen eye.

NO WAIT: ARMANDO ESTRADA ANNOUNCES ECW UNFORGIVEN MATCHES wwe.com
After seeing the intensity that occurred this past week on ECW, General Manager Armando Estrada has decided on his Unforgiven match. The winners of the three mini-tournament matches will square off in a triple threat to open the show and the victor will face off against ECW World Champion, CM Punk, later in the evening for the championship.
Estrada noted that if the intensity keeps up like this, he may have to buckle down even more on the roster. Estrada loved seeing all three men fired up and cannot wait for this Sunday, where CM Punk will be defending his newly won ECW Championship against either Elijah Burke, The Miz, or Big Daddy V.
Be sure to contact your cable service providers about ordering Unforgiven! Live, this Sunday at 8/7c![/font]

Triple Threat Match for the #1 Contender Spot For The ECW Championship Elijah Burke (w/Mike Knox) def. The Miz & Big Daddy V (w/Matt Striker) via Elijah Express on The Miz The pay-per-view opened up with the triple threat match to determine who will face CM Punk later on tonight. The action was mostly controlled by Big Daddy V, as he took both men out with ease. Eventually, Burke & Miz worked together to eliminate V from the picture and Burke then took advantage and nailed the Express to move on to the title match later tonight.
Later in the evening, Josh Matthews was standing by with ECW World Champion, CM Punk, before his defense against Elijah Burke. Matthews asked Punk if he has prepared for someone of Elijah's caliber and Punk responds by saying that he is prepared for anyone on the roster. Punk guarantees that he will be walking out ECW Champion, whether Burke likes it or not. CM Punk defines the new era of ECW and tonight, the era continues in a big way.
ECW Championship Match CM Punk © def. Elijah Burke (w/Mike Knox) via disqualification following interference from Mike Knox; CM Punk retains (defense #1) Punk & Burke didn't waste any time and got right down to business once the bell rang. Burke was a little fatigued from wrestling two other men earlier in the evening, but that didn't slow him down. Punk had a bit of trouble but eventually got the advantage. This is where Mike Knox stepped in. Punk step up Burke for the GTS after the clothesline/bulldog combination, when Knox booted Punk in the face, causing the DQ. Afterward, Burke & Knox beatdown on Punk and Burke nailed the Elijah Express before posing with the ECW Championship. Burke draped the belt over Punk before leaving the ringside area.
