Below is the original post w/my Mattel Dusty fix-up w/a Jakks head.
..and here is my followup to it: Since the vast majority of you felt the original Mattel Dusty head was better-here is a photo of what it looks like w/the original head.
-Peace out, -WagdaddyI had passed on buying the Dusty Rhodes Mattel fig....I really couldn't get past the headscan and the polk-a-dot WWF outfit. When I think of the Dusty Rhodes, I remember the 'Son of a Plumber', "Hard Times" babyface who got the **** beat out of him every Saturday night on TBS by the Four Horseman....not the bumble-bee outfit. So....I went ahead a got the Mattel figure:
and I did a fix-up using some paint, tape, a Jakks head switch, a Mattel Taker elbow pad and a Jakks knee pad, plus an NWA belt and got this:I noticed that photos show a skin tone difference between the head and the body, but I swear I can't see it with the naked eye in person. I am not crazy about this head scan either-but will take it in a heart beat over the Mattel one. I kinda of went for the look found on the Legends of WM game....this is pretty much dead-one from the Dusty found on that game.
I also have this stuff left over:Hit me up if this is something you want.
-Peace out, -Wagdaddy

yeah I have to echo the others. I made my NWA Dusty and I much prefer the Mattel head over that one.

I was going to switch out the Mattel head for the Jakks one too, but I've grown to love that sculpt. The Jakks one looks too cartoony in comparison. Everybody's waiting for an NWA Dusty (I am too), but I hope they get around to making a Dusty when he was main eventing MSG with Billy Graham. Kinda like CS13 but you know... better.

Great fix-up. I don't really like the Bumble Bee attire, so if i do end up getting Dusty i will definatly to this All he needs now his a hat.

Wow....I am really in the minority here, and its not that I don't like Mattel head scans-I do, but what I have come to notice about Mattel heads scans is that they are either dead-on perfect or way off IMO.....hardly is there one which is just "okay", they seem to be in opposing ends of the spectrum.
In comparison, I always felt that most of the Jakks head-scans were always more "middle ground"....rarely just perfect, but never so horribly off either.
Perhaps after reading your reviews, I will pop the original back on and see what I have.
-Thanks for being constructive instead of rude.

Personally I dont think we've had a headscan that looks like Dusty Rhodes. Mattels doesnt look anything like him. CS10 Rhodes looks like Rodney Dangerfield and CS13 looks like Jim Ross with a perm. However I do like this fixup and its something Ive strongly thought about doing (Buying NWA guys and fixing them as needed). I would have probably just kept the Mattel head on though since it matches. Either way though I love where the idea was going.

That's it! G2! That's the star than the Jakks head reminds me of - Rodney Dangerfield, which is in not even remotely similar to what Dusty looks like.
IMHO Mattel Dusty is the closest we've ever come to replicating Dusty in toy-form. NWA Dusty had longer curly hair like the Mattel sculpt and a more round face than a long one.

Looks nice but it kinda looks more like "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdock than Dusty though.

I like it Wagdaddy. I'm a fan of the Jakks head, although I feel neither company has really nailed Dusty.
Mattel's head grew on me, when you look at the picture on the Legends carding it's pretty close to that. Even still, I think they did a great job with Dusty overall.

I like Dusty, but like the other said, there's not a perfect Dusty head yet.

Personally I think the Mattel head is spot on for Dusty. The resat looks really good though.
