I got my Basic series 8 in the mail Saturday and was upset (like many) that there is no longer a display stand/name tag. Do you think the recent markdowns By Target and Walmart reflect this? If so do you think TRU and Ringside etc will drop the prices as well? I honestly don't mind not having bases if its going to save me $$$. Thinking more about this (being a loose collector) I wouldn't mind if they did away with the extensive package art as well , get these figures around the $5 mark. Obviously I realize that people collect MOC and enjoy the packaging, that last bit was just my personal opinion.

Price wont drop, wishful thinking my friend. The 7.50 pricing is by the store, not the manufacturer. They're temporary reductions.

No. Walmart and Target are just having a good 'ole fashion price war. TRU has had a number of sales over the last few weeks to move product and will surely have more as Christmas approaches. Ringside lower prices, surely you jest. The lack of bases in future line-ups has nothing to due with any of the price activity at retail...Santa does.

Walmart has this listed as a "rollback". Rollbacks are not a sale but the new price. At least that's how it was explained to me.

I would be content with no stands if it meant cheaper basics for maybe $7, but keep Elites 14.99 and still include stands >:/

They could also be getting rid of the stands to make way for relevant accessories ,IE Chiars , ladders, belts etc

They could also be getting rid of the stands to make way for relevant accessories ,IE Chiars , ladders, belts etc Nope Here is the short and simple answer: In order to keep the retail price at the same level in 2011 as they are in 2010, and deal with the annual production costs in the toy industry ( this happens in every company) it was decided to cut the stands and nameplates as opposed to cutting detail on the figures.

I too was extremely upset when I found out that the figures no longer come with stands. However, I just went through my collection and removed the stands and it created almost 3 shelves worth of space, which is nice. Now, I am not so upset with this anymore.

I didn't realize Mattel design team had commented on this already. Thanks for posting that. I am happy they took the stands instead of the detail in the figures. Now if they only got that quality control thing down ( I have have three figures 2 with the two left feet and 1 with two right hands).

the stands cost them nothing really to make maybe a few cents, there is not much of a cost cutting measure. They have a variety of parts so everything on the basic line is cost effective.
The markdowns is stores competing with each other and sometimes the manufacturer gives them a better break to run the sale. 9.99-12.99 for a figure only,

Since no more name tags & stands, are they still drilling the hole on the figures foot?

I think it's molded not drilled. A new mold would cost money, if they did this to save themselves money I would say tge hole stays.

I thought the same thing about the price drop, but I was shot down quickly. But I don't think anybody knows for sure.
