I was just thinking about this...We saw perhaps the most shocking era of wrestling, as superstars switched ships from WWF to WCW and the other way around so now, we very rarely are expecting shockers to occur. Another thing is we really did see the end of kayfabe. The infamous Kliq incident at MSG really did ruin any goodguy/badguy deal WWF had going for them. Plus, when they aknowledged it one RAW, it added more to ruining future storylines then it did by doing any good. I also thought the NWO, as great as it was, ruined any possible future stables. The Nexus was compared to the NWO as soon as they debuted, and everyone was expecting major stuff out of them (some of which WWE delivered). There was also the Finger Poke of Doom...I rest my case.
Anyone else agree?

Did the NWO ruin Evolution? No.
Bad guys/good guys still exist, yes there are people who cheer for the bad guys and boo the good guys, but that has happened throughout the history of wrestling.
I was just watching the WWE Raw Season 1/2 DVD and a bunch of fans are cheering the Quebecers and that was before the MSG incident. I've seen people boo Hogan in the WWF, that was before the MSG incident.

Whoever compared the Nexus to the NWO obviously never watched the NWO.

No. The botched Invasion angle + lack of competition + bad writing = pro wrestling "ruined", at least in terms of popularity.

If anything negative possibly came out of it, it was that wrestling reached a ceiling, thus the only way to go was down. Plus that ceiling causes for expectations from everyone.

No the internet really kills a lot of wrestlers momentum by telling people who got released and who is going where it also has many of these dirt sheets that arise. The internet back then was still in the developmental stage where AOL was the main server with dial up being the connection so information was leaked less back then. So the potential for wrestlers to bounce back and forth was more of a you have to watch the show to see whos coming as to these days people know when they are released and who is under the 90 days or suspension, injured lists and so on so their return or when they return is somewhat expected or really an educated guess due to the type of injury.

Hell no. Quite the opposite; it evolved into a better thing.

holy shit........no way did it ruin wrestling.it propelled itto the zenith of its popularity.
The Fingerpoke of Doom marked the beginning of WCWs troubles
a couple of years later Stephanie(clueless clown) McMahon became head of WWE creative......and WWEs own troubles started.

It did, but mostly in that it made the companies plan based on the weekly ratings and add too many pay per views. It worked then because people were willing to buy all of them, but it ruined long term booking.
TNA is especially bad about following ratings. That always amuses me because at their highest they still aren't reaching WCW's lowest ratings.

I've seen people boo Hogan in the WWF, that was before the MSG incident. Hulk Hogan was getting noticable boos in WWF as early as 1990, and by the time he left in 1992 and for good in 1993, people couldn't stand him. Watch Royal Rumble 1992, whwn Sid throws him out of the Rumble and Hogan throws a tantrum, you'd swear Hogan was the biggest heel on the roster based on the crowd reaction. When Hogan came to WCW he had maybe a good year as a babyface, but by the time he started with the Dungeon of Doom crap, the crowd turned on him again, leading to his heel turn. When people want to blame the internet for making fans smart and cynical toward wrestling, just point to these examples which occurred before the Internet gained mass popularity.

Over saturation ruined pro wrestling. There's too much each week. Too many PPVs. Too much lazy booking. Too many spoilers.

No. If anything, the death of the Monday Night Wars killed wrestling.

Wrestling is not ruined..... so no. I like it to this day. Yeah it's not the same product but you can say that about any show, sport, even person ever. Everything has to evolve. Baseball was "cooler" 12 years ago to me but to a 15 year old kid or a 65 year old man, they would think otherwise. Don't get stuck in the past. It's a waste of time.
