I was reading some REALLY old posts here on the Mattel board. Like from when Mattel initially got the license, just for the heck of it, and alot of people were saying how they wanted so much stuff from Mattel, and then a MOD told them not to get their hopes up just to be let down by a company that's never made figures of real people. So the question is, what were your first impressions of Mattel, and have they met or exceeded those expectations? Or have they not met your initial expectations?

My first impression; ''Where have you been all of my collecting life?''

When I first saw the pics, I thought they were cheap. I thought Jakks was still going to make the figures so I said, I'm not gonna get any Mattel's. But around 3 days they came out, I saw Bourne and Ted/Cody. I passed on them. Then, on the car ride home, I thought they were awesome and wanted to find them again. Days later, I couldn't find any. A week later, I got Ted/Cody and at Target I got Bourne and Punk. I really loved them and still do.

Well seeing I was/am a huge fan of their DC lines I was very excited for the news. I just wish they let the Four Horsemen work on the WWE brand as well.

My first impression from seeing protos was awful. Once I saw them in person, I thought dfferently and jumped on the band wagon.

I saw the protos and thought they were bad,but once I saw them in person I didn't even hesitate to buy the Elites.

I didnt like it. I already have a nice Jakks RA collection and did not want to start over with another scale, plus I thought they were going to have distribution woes like DCUC. Now, I think Mattel does a better job than Jakks with smaller wrestlers and I like their Elite John Cenas, but Basics look hideous and both Basic and Elite lines are overpriced.

I saw the protos and thought that they were terrible. Those original proto pics were really bad.
Then I went to TRU to check em out... and the 1st figures I saw were FlexForce, and I thought they were terrible.
Then I realized that FlexForce wasn't the main line. I picked up Santino/Phoenix 2-pack and I have been hooked since.
(I only collect Jakks Classic Superstars very loosely before Mattel, so I wasn't up to date with Mattel news or anything)

I was skeptical like I remember many were when I had first heard that Mattel was getting the license in 2010, but as soon as I saw the protos for everything Series 1 (Basic, Elites, 2-Packs) I knew they would be great. With that said I was planning on only picking a few of these up and then giving Mattel either a personal "thumbs up or down", but what can I say? They had me at scale...

At first when i saw protos i thought they looked like horrible statues with little to no articulation and kept passing them up in stores but i eventually saw An elite Edge and Cm Punk at a local Wal-mart and i said hey why not give them a try and i did and i loved them and still do and have been collecting ever since and now have around 34 figures, 28 are elite and rest are basic but i really don't like basics all that much, i only really buy the people i know wont be made again such as The Hurricane.

I thought , "wow. R3 figures without the finger articulation.". I was kinda right. That's not a bad thing really. My complaint was the same as many others: I have well over 500 RA figures, why do I want to start over NOW. But its all good over 100 mattels later.

Loved the protos from day one. I collected hasbros and the original Bone Crunching JAKKS. I thought the JAKKS started to suck and got way to cartoony so I stopped collecting. I stayed in the loop by staying updated on the RSC site. Around the 3rd week of Jan I decided to go to TRU and got a RSR and the ENTIRE series 1 line (except Santino Beth 2 pack). Best pick up day yet!

Mattel has just gotten better as the year has gone on. I wish they would fix their distribution issues but I love the hunt. Legends are amazing. So are Elites. So happy to be collecting again

At first I thought the horrific, airbrushed, photoshopped, super-human protos were complete jokes. I'll never forget the night Mattel finally released their first protos for everything, I laughed my ass off. The ONLY thing that impressed me was Heritage Austin, I thought everything else looked ridiculous.
Now, I'm addicted to them. They certainly showed me I wasn't gonna miss a thing about Jakks' WWE line. Better detail, scale, accessories, variety, no bull****. Love em.

I was against them. I was 100% with Jakks and said I wouldn't buy Mattel.
But I found them in stores and decided to buy them to try them out and I loved them.

Excited about them from the moment I saw the first pictures, they were clearly so much better than the crappy balloon-men Jakks figures that had been the only option for years (though I did like Jakks Micro and Build & Brawl lines). Went out hunting every day last Christmas in the hope that the UK would get them early like the US did. Finally got them in about mid-Jan, and they were as awesome as I'd hoped.

I saw the first proto pics and wasn't impressed.
Then I saw the first Basic series in the store I was working at the time and was suprised at how good the scale and proportions were compared to the Jakks RA style which I never really liked.
Although I didn't get any straight away I came to this site for the first time in many months and started looking at what else was coming out and my first wrestling figure purchases in 4-5 years were Elite series 1 Undertaker & Rey Mysterio................I was VERY impressed.
Since that time I've bought a few more Elites but my main focus has been the Legends series which IMO is making Classic Superstars redundant in less than a year.
Just about all the Legends figures surpass their Jakks counterparts with ease, they're also offering the likes of Steamboat & Savage which Jakks never made and my only real complaint is that they aren't officially available in the UK as it means I can't afford as many as I'd like.
