You live in Ireland, your country is already ed. Look at the bailout they need, it's just so wrong.

Look at the bailout they need, it's just so wrong. Well that is not the fault of the Irish people Slappy. Government negligence to blame for Ireland's bailout, also you seem a bit paranoid about the whole facial recognition stuff. Just take off the tinfoil hat for a while and live a little.

I am sure they are decent, hard working people. But like our country, their leaders are corrupt bastards.

Well I know many local polititions here who have bought 3 or 4 houses with money they don't even own and there was a report in one of the national newspapers that my own nextdoor neighbour owed 120,000 in unpaid taxes. These sort of people should not be in power and never deserve to even run for election.

It's not about the facial recognition software, at least not the whole thing. It's what are they going to end up doing with it? I doubt they will stop at tagging you in a picture.

Yes they would. They have the ability to check what books we have checked out from the library. They are able to do warrantless searches. They wiretap Americans who have no terror connections. They infiltrate peaceful groups because some part of the group may be "anti-American." The US Government can do whatever it wants. It is up to us, the citizens to act as a buffer to stop the criminals.

There is a terrible racist joke about Asians in this. Yeah, already happened with video games which is wrong so I'd figure it would be a problem here too.

I get exactly what you're saying in your OP but really, if you're concerned about the government having all your records, deleting Facebook's hardly going to change much. What are they going to find? My facebook is populated by drunk photos of me and a list of my favourite movies. We're already being monitored/surveyed in pretty much every single aspect of our lives and that isn't going to change. I have nothing to hide, personally.

I'm almost as far left wing as they come, but in this scenario, I have no real issue with monitoring activity through facebook (or the internet in general). Perhaps it's a little intrusive, but it's hardly a totalitarian regime we're experiencing here. In fact, I can't think of any situation in which this would be a problem and yet I'm sure that this kind of surveillance has been used in the past to prevent instances relating to terrorist threats and other forms of high criminality. The pro's certainly outweigh the con's.

The pro's certainly outweigh the con's. They say the pros outweighs the cons in many situations in which the government invades our lives more and more in the name of safety and freedom. If I post "I don't like the TSA body scanners." That should not raise a red flag with the government, but it does. They keep an eye out for those who are speaking against them. We have free speech in this country. The government should not be able to come in and shut us down because they don't like what we are saying. If it is anti-government stuff, they want to keep tabs on you and maybe even shut you down. Racist stuff? Meh, they don't care. Do you know the last President to do something that was actually effective against the KKK? It was Grant. He completely crushed the KKK. Now they are back and say membership is soaring. Yet nothing is done about them. But bad mouth the government, well you better watch out.
