Thiago Alves's former conditioning coach says he used/uses lipo suction to make it to Welter Weight.
Anthony Pettis will not wait for Edgar or Maynard. He will fight Kenny Florian in his next fight.
Sonnen is out of UFC 128. Yoshiro Akiyama will fight Nate Marquardt.
Plus Fedor signed a 4 fight deal with Strikeforce.

Alves missed weight two or three times under that coach so he has little room to talk, those comments he made sounded bitter to me.
If Pettis wins he proves he is as good as the top 155ers, Kenny wins he backs his way into another title shot. 0-3 in title fights will forever confirm he is a gatekeeper.
128 just lost some of its excitement. Akiyama/Marquardt is either going to be fight full of wild swinging punches or an Akiyama judo-fest. Akiyama needs the win but the fight does little for the 185 title scene, neither are close to really earning a title fight and we don't need an "unworthy" contender or we'll get dancing Anderson again.
Fedor's deal is great if Strikeforce can find 2 more fights after Werdum and Overeem, otherwise this is likely to cause long layoffs for Fador and his management fighting with Strikeforce again.

I believe with Fedor, it is for the tourney he is in. Wins first fight against Silva, he fights winner of Arlovski fight, if he wins that he fights winner of Overeem/ Werdum/ Barnett fights.

I think I am right in saying: once Fedor demolishes Silva, he will fight the winner of Overeem Vs Werdum in the semis... Barnett Vs Rogers and Arlovski Vs Kharitonov are in the other half.

SteveHulk has it right. The brackets are set up to where Fedor fights the winner of Werdum/Overeem for the Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship in the 2nd round.

Crap, I forgot about the tournament. I hope Fador or Overeem wins, just imagine if Arlovski or Barnett wins.

How I wish Fedor was in the UFC already, but I digress...
Akiyama/Marquardt should be good, I'm tipping Marquardt to get the win here.
If KenFlo is forever the LW gatekeeper, I really don't know what to say that hasn't been said already.
Not a big fan of Pettis, so not really concerned with that one.

Its going to be kind of funny. Pettis is/was the champion, now he takes a step down. What if Florian wins? LoL.

I would have to think that if Pettis were to lose, he would be out of contention. How do you justify giving him a shot coming off of a loss?

Pettis doesn't deserve this. Florian is a step down.

If Pettis really felt it was a step down he could always force the issue in the media to fight Edgar and the winner of that fight gets Maynard.
As it is he most likely doesn't want to stay idle until the LW title unification can be set up, and beating a bigger named UFC fighter adds hype to his title fight.

I would have to think that if Pettis were to lose, he would be out of contention. How do you justify giving him a shot coming off of a loss? How do you justify not giving him a shot that he earned? But it's one of those situations where if you don't fight, you face a long lay off. If you do, you could lose and blow your spot in the rankings.

Is Pettis being made to take it or does he want to keep active ? Probably to stay active, just to get paid.

Is Pettis being made to take it or does he want to keep active ? ...that's what I thought - I think it might have been better to do a Rashad and wait his title-shot out... I wouldn't be at all surprised if KenFlo beat him.

Not surprised about Alves getting Nip/Tucked as he is friggin huge for his weight class. The Pettis situation sucks but it makes sense. He was promised the winner of Edgar/Maynard and alas there was none. So this is a good fight to show everyone where he places in the UFC. Nate should get the W on Sexyama but you never know how he'll show up on fight night. Good news about Feodr. Super pumped about the SF Tournament.

Pettis doesn't deserve this. Florian is a step down. In what realm of the world is Kenny Florian a step down for Anthony Pettis? I never really agreed with the instant UFC/WEC Title unification but I understood why. Pettis is a good fighter, don't get me wrong. But he isn't UFC Championship calibre yet. Kenny Florian is a perfect opponent to face coming off a win over Ben Henderson and will prove where Pettis lies in the division.
