Don't get me wrong, I loves me some Canada, but did everyone hear about the censoring of "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits? One person complained about the 3 uses of the word that rhymes with maggot and starts with "f". So now the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has stated that it's too offensive for airplay. Boo I say. So it's totally cool to have the Mini-Pops sing Kesha's (I refuse to put the dollar sign) "Tik-Tok" and market it to kids. But we can't have a rock hit from 25 years ago play anymore because it uses a word that offends one dude in Newfoundland.
I'm saddened about the world we live in now. Looks like the terrorists won.

I'm strongly considering writing the the CBSC... if one dude can complain and get this iconic hit taken off the airwaves than I should be entitled to get offended over most Kesha songs... and that one Sexy Bit*h song I can claim is demeaning to women and I want it taken off the air too or heavily censored.

NEWSFLASH: Canada has always been lame. ...and bingo was his name-o. you know nothing. anyways, do i think they should've censored it? yep, it's just plain offensive how they use it. however, as others said, should more songs receive equal judgement if not moreso? absolutely.

While I agree that any word, used in a derogatory way, is not cool. Is it our government's place to tell an artist that a song (or anything else) needs to be changed? Seems to me like it sets a dangerous precedent. Where would it end? Would battered women want Pat Benetar's "Hit Me with your Best Shot" edited or taken off the air? "Every Breath You Take" removed from play because it offends a stalking victim? I'm probably all up in arms because of going to art school, but it kinda cheeses me off that a government agency, especially in the "free world", can have the power to tell radio stations that they can no longer play a song. By order of the government.

What's the big deal? If it gets censored while airing on national television who cares? Now people who would be offended by that word can listen to the song without being offended.
If you really want to hear that one word so badly, listen to the song in private and go nuts.
Pun intended.

How is it offensive the way they use it? You clearly missed the context it's being used in -_-

you...don't find it derogatory at all? i strongly suggest you read the lyrics and reconsider their implications. I don't find it offensive at all because of the manner which it is used, the nationality of the person who wrote it, the context it's used in and the origins of the word...

So did anyone actually look into the story here? Money for Nothing is not banned. There are two versions, an album version and a radio version. The reason for the radio version is because the original was deemed too offensive even back in the 80's, for Canadian or American radio. Some DJ screwed up and played the wrong one, which got that version officially banned.

I agree its wrong to ban a hit wrong song 25 years after, and that is lame. But Canada itself is not lame at all, other than the scarce amount of elite we receive -__-
