25 years ago today the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded. I can't believe it has been that long. January 28, 1986.
I was 11 years old at the time and can remember being in shock because a school teacher, Christine McAuliffe, was on board. I didn't cry then, I was more in shock and disbelief but watching the tragedy now definately brings tears to my eyes.
Rest in peace, Challenger crew.

Holy crap! I was like 2 when this happened. I actually can remember bits and pieces of it cause I remember my dad was off from work that day and was running around setting up VCRs to record the launch. He's still got the tapes if I recall.

I just remember the jokes after it happened. I can't remember any but everybody was telling them in school. I was too young to understand the magnitude as I was only 11 at the time.

Why would anyone be idiotic enough to make jokes out of a situation like that? That was probably considered the biggest disaster/event in my life until 9/11/

I won't like and say that I haven't been involved in a game of Apples To Apples where "The Challenger Explosion" wasn't played to fit the description of "Colorful", but hey - we live in New Hampshire. Any time the tiniest bit of news breaks relevant to the story, it's considered headline around here.

I was not around for it, however, Reagan's comments about it were pretty awesome.

I vividly remember this. I was a kid and someone came over to our house and told us the space shuttle had exploded. I was completely in shock even as a little kid.

My Earth Science teacher bawled her eyes out when she saw it happen. My Eco Science teacher immediately suspected espionage.

I do not remember it but I suppose its still sad. I guess I do not get as grieved as some do. I understand the why someone would but then again, its just death to me. Same end result, different circumstances.
And honestly I like humor when it comes to death. The jokes may not be tasteful but I believe they have their place. They say gallows humor is the best kind.

Honestly, the real tragedy is that if it happened today the Internet would be full of conspiracy theorists saying the official story was wrong. Shows how much the world has changed.

My bad- I meant sabotage, not espionage. And I agree with you 100%.

I used to live a couple miles from Kennedy Space Center. It was kinda crazy whenever a shuttle went up because the whole house rumbled like an earthquake.
I was only like 4 when this happened, so I very vaguely remember it.
