Although I try to shrug off any and all labels and just try to do my own thing, I'd like to state that first and foremost I consider myself an MMA fan, then an opinion columnist. Like many of us I tend to have a strong reaction when someone talks negatively about one of my favorite fighters, I just simply get paid to voice that reaction by some ing miracle. What follows is my response to Sonnen's latest tirade against Anderson Silva. I already know some are going to accuse me of trolling, hence the tongue-in-cheek title. But here's the thing: you'll never see me say something I don't 100% believe in, and I won't run from it if it ends up biting me in the ass. So, with that in mind, on to today's piece. Feedback/comments are welcome, but please click the link and even drop a comment at the link if you can, so I can get some views on the site. ---------- Chael Sonnen Takes Time Out Of His Busy Schedule As A Convicted Felon To Call Out Anderson Silva Again Article Posted: February 7th, 2011 | By: Oliver Saenz | Much-maligned ufc Middleweight fighter Chael Sonnen is back in the news again. And for the first time in a long time, it’s not because of his questionable judgments. This time it’s not steroids, nor an insurance scam, but Sonnen is up to his usual tricks nonetheless. Sonnen is back in the headlines for his recent comments regarding Anderson Silva’s thrilling knockout over Vitor Belfort at UFC 126. Read what Chael had to say after the jump. Sonnen recently gave the following sentiments that comes to us courtesy of a post on Bloody Elbow: “Thank you, Anderson, for revealing yet another weakness for me to exploit in our rematch. Beating that poor punching bag doesn’t impress Uncle Chael, guy. You tipped your hand like a chump poker player at a $5 table in Atlantic City. You may have beaten Vitor, but in the process, you LOST your edge. By beating that husk, you gave me the last page of your playbook. Revel in your time, [because] it ENDS the night you face me. I will mow you down like autumn wheat, AGAIN.” It appears that a steroid scandal and a money laundering scandal haven’t damaged Sonnen’s sense of humor one bit. This is the same Sonnen many UFC fans fell in love with, especially Silva detractors, and to this day the man remains a popular star despite all that’s been going on in his professional life. Me, personally? I used to “love to hate” Sonnen. His personality mixed with his fighting skills made him one villain I couldn’t help but watch and enjoy. Then he got busted for steroids. Then he got busted for money laundering. Now Sonnen’s the butt of the jokes. Come on, people. Do you honestly expect me to still take this guy seriously? The man can barely keep his personal life together, and did anyone else notice how conspicuously absent he was when he got busted for steroids and then busted again for money laundering? Sonnen didn’t just toss stones in his glass house, he launched boulders from inside it with the help of several catapults. ---------- Read the rest here

Good stuff!
I guess Chael has to say this stuff to stay relevant though.

Lol....I couldn't stand Sonnen before but the guy is an extremely entertaining sh** talker...plus he has some ground and pound that reminds me of Tito, before all the excuses.
He knows that regardless of all of his recent troubles people will always regard him as Andersons toughest challenge to date...the rematch will happen. But the end result will be the same.

Great article! I especially like:
"No amount of witty banter will make up for the fact that Sonnen choked in his big moment, and then had his personal life fall apart with no one to blame but himself. Sonnen needs to get his priorities straight before he starts making the same promises he made the first time he tried to beat Anderson Silva. Because as it stands right now, not only is this getting ridiculous, this is also getting pretty tedious".
Sums up my feelings exactly...

I'm a Sonnen mark, and I love how he hypes a fight, I would love for him to come back and take Anderson out, but that's mainly because I agree with everything Chael said about Anderson as a person. ANDERSON IS A PRICK!

I am glad you said that....why is Anderson anymore of a prick than Chael Sonnen?
does he grab his nuts during a fight like Rashad Evans?
does he flip off an entire UFC crowd just because they boo him like Brock Lesnar did?
does he talk sh** on his opponents like Koscheck, Bisping, Chael, Tito do?
no...he doesn't...so why do mma forums like to say how big of a prick Anderson Silva is?
I don't understand.

Well if it's multiple MMA forums, then chances are that he is a prick.
Granted Chael Sonnen trash talks, but hey he's funny, and for those he doesn't annoy, people like it. Anderson Silva is a prick in a different way, he is two faced, and a fake person, Chael Sonnen was right about Anderson, and Vitor even said the guy was two faced. And the BS he pulled in the Demian Maia fight!
And the prick can speak English a lot better than he wants, he fakes that he can't to avoid crap. Anderson Silva is a prick. Great fighter, but a prick.

You don't know Anderson, so how do you know how well his English is?

You don't know Anderson, so how do you know how well his English is? There is enough videos floating around on youtube of Anderson interviews. I even checked out one Sonnen mentioned. I'll see if I can dig it up if you're that interested? =/

Give him Vitor first. I'd love to see that.

Ok you repeatedly saying he is a prick doesn't justify why you would say that about him.
His behavior doesn't seem to be any worse than any other fighter. I actually respect him that much more because he refuses to try and hype up a fight with trash talk.
It just amuses me that out of no where Anderson Silva has become the villian. Everytime a new opponent is announced everyone jumps on that fighters bandwagon to be the one to dethrone Silva. First it was Chael...then Vitor...now people are saying Okami is going to be the one to end his streak.

Lol - don't hold back Lelouch... say what you really think. Anderson's always seemed OK to me(?). I was fine with Sonnen at first... I liked his trash-talk and even defended him against the steroid allegations. But with this latest fraud case it just makes you question his whole character and whether he was "cheating" all along. I hope he gets it sorted though and fights again... if for no other reason than to see Silva beat him again. ;D

Actually Chael turned Anderson Silva in to the guy to support with his own personal hype and had all the heat directed at him. What he did do is verbalize somethings people had only said online to each other, and got it out in the air and talked about more. You have your Tito Ortiz and guys like that who purposely come off as a prick, because there trying to be a prick to hype the fight, the reason I and other people don't like Anderson, is because he genuinely is a prick. And the reason people jump on the opposition bandwagon is because they want to see him crumble and beaten in to mush, and people most of the time don't genuinely think Anderson can be beaten by these guys, it's wishful thinking. But I now do believe personally after there first fight that Chael stands a good chance, there is no denying how close him came, and people can throw as many excuses up in the air as they like, at the end of the day, he did. But I'm putting my hopes in GSP to do that. And so will many others. Also Hulk. I do hold back on the internet, I can get very vile and I'd rather not be banned. >.> Hehe.

where did you justify your slander of Andersons character?
you mentioned a phantom video that "you have to go look for"
and you jumped off Chael Sonnens sack just long enough to explain that because Sonnen said Anderson is a prick then his fans will believe it. Yup, Anderson doesn't speak English so he is a disgrace to mma. But it is okay to take steroids and get caught laundering money. That is okay, you know why? Because Chael Sonnen is funny, and he speaks English!

I hate to say this, but you are completely ruining any believe that people from Europe can been insightful into MMA. You have no idea what you are talking about and make a very credible Chael Sonnen fan like the corre of sonnen look bad. Anderson does not have the level of ENGLISH to talk at a UFC press conference and give me one good reason why he would pretend NOT to. Apart from your expected " he's a pr*ck " response. He's going to go down as the best P4P MMA fighter ever... he can be whatever he wants.

He's a prick! - Nah you're quite right he can be whatever he wants. But as he has done in interviews, spoke rather good English, then when it comes to a question he doesn't want to address. He plays up about it. Not going to debate it with you, I've seen it for myself. And if anyone is that bothered, they can search and find it themselves, or I can dig it up at some point. You're the one that responds to me with a very basic message that goes in to no detail of what I've really said wrong to claim I have no idea what I'm talking about other than going on about the Anderson English comment. So... NYEH!

If I was Danam, I'd NEVER give Sonnen another fight against Silva for the title, after the craphe did, he doesn't deserve it. The only way they should fight again is if Silva loses the belt. I don't think Anderson's a prick, but even if he is,Sonnen is worse, and comes off terribly.

The thing is... if it was non-title fight, that would probably favor Sonnen - I mean, if their first fight was a 3 rounder, Sonnen would have been the (impressive) winner. If they do fight again though, I'm hoping Anderson will have learned from their last fight and alter his gameplan from the get-go.

But now Sonnen would be fighting a fully healthy Silva, who knows how he goes now, and would make a gameplan and preparation to ombat what sonnen did so well the first time. It's not going to be a surprise anymore, Sonnen has lost that advantage.

to be honest what Sonnen did in the first fight was hardly a surprise. Just look at the tape and listen to what he had been shouting all pre fight.
