The reason Bones Jones is getting a Light Heavyweight title shot against Shogun Rua, is because Quinton "Rampage" Jackson declined the title shot first.
What are your guys' thoughts on this?

If Rampage declined I am shocked he would refuse the opportunity. On the flip side Bones is a superstar on the rise. The matchup should be entertaining.

Dick-tuck. No, really, I understand why Rampage would want more time to train for a guy who ing murdered him the last time they fought.

I understand Rampage's choice not to do it. You can't train 5-6 weeks for someone like Shogun.

on top of all that Rampage likes to get pretty fat between fights...so I understand his decision...
plus he is one fight away from a title shot anyways..

I understand Rampage's choice not to do it. You can't train 5-6 weeks for someone like Shogun. Atleast he has fought him before. So I am guessing you think Shogun is going to destroy Bones? If I was Rampage and have fought Rua before, why not give it another go? You are going to have to fight him or Bones next if you win your fight against Silva. Why not capitalize on the rust Shogun may have?

Maybe not destroy, but I do believe Shogun will win. Jones is relatively untested around strikers. He only looks good against wrestlers. Jones' reach will be a problem, though.

I was surprised when I first heard this, but to be fair, he has a reasonable excuse. Rampage said that he weighs in at about 245lbs 250lbs* right now. So a training camp at this point would be more focused on getting him in shape, rather than actually getting ready to fight Shogun. Considering he has a win over him, rushing into this could very well cause Rampage to go 0-2 against Shogun.

45lbs. is a ton of weight to lose. I am glad he didn't take it then. That's what got him in trouble last time. He was drinking rockstars not eating taking medication.

He seems to have lost that desire to fight. I don't blame him either, he'd be smart to bust a Rock and head for Hollywood while he can.

I knew immediately that Rampage must have turned it down due to being out of shape and not ready. Before the Rashad fight he didn't start training until 8 weeks out, and he let himself get fat then too. He's been training in the UK too long and picked up the Ricky Hatton diet.
