Not the most generic, but Not Afraid by Eminem is pretty bad I'm not afraid, to take a stand everybody, come take my hand We'll walk this road together, through the storm Whatever weather, cold or warm Just lettin' you know that you're not alone Holla if you feel like you've been down the same roadWhat the does that even mean? It's like he wrote the chorus just so it could be played at every sporting event ever. I'm pretty sure the song is about him breaking free from the Illuminati, which I approve of. And uh..this is coming from someone who can't stand mainstream music, haha. Do people really believe this illuminati bullshit? lololol

Yes it does. That's the " best " sounding Chord progression. Take Howl by Florence and the Machine. Chords are the exact same as an Eminem song i believe just played at a different time sig. That doesn't mean anything. With ALL the music in the world you're bound to have the same chord progression. I admit, if it's the same melody, there's a chance it could be ripping another song off but doesn't mean the chord progression it self is generic, But the same chord or proggression means nothing. It's like saying a V7 to the I chord means it's generic because it sounds good. And best sounding progression is highly based on opinion.

Pretty much the majority of songs that have been released over the past five years. Everything released now sounds like poop, TBH. I'd like to see you listen to Iron Maiden's latest album The Final Frontier, which came out last year, and see if you consider that generic. I'm a huge Iron Maiden fan with every CD in my car.(literally bought them all off eBay). The Final Frontier aside from like one song is pretty bland. I was so disappointed since everything since their 2001 reunion had been superb.

Iron Maiden, being my favourite band, a lot of their stuff can be quite similar with triplets/gallops on bass and bit less on guitar and similar played riffs.

See, thats just a ridiculously ignorant statement. Radio music? sure, if that's not your thing. You need to search harder, or stop being so ignorant. Well I'm sorry for stating my opinion. I guess I'll contribute to the thread a little more by saying Black and Yellow is a generic song. It's not my fault that hardly anything these days is on the level of music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s...IN MY OPINION. You're opinion today's music compared to the 60's, 70's and 80's is irrelevent to the statement that "the majority of songs that have been released over the past five years", which is a little ignorant and a little moronic. I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that older music holds an overall better standard than newer music, but 1) you haven't heard the majority of songs released over the last few years and 2) you obviously aren't looking enough if you can't find original music, because theres SO many original bands out there from the last decade.

I thought it was brilliant to be honest, could have done without Satellite 15 (not The Final Frontier, just the first half) but I can see why they put it on the album.

True, but this cover makes up for it. soundcloud.com/codepie/babyI would say this is the most generically country song EVER. Every stereotype of country music in one song. Dead dog, playing guitar in your room, about your "home", overly twangy voice, steel lap guitar. Her acceptance speech for this song was even worse, "I want to thank Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin for writing this." Listen I know most of country music is written by other people, everyone does, just don't try and act sincere about a song that isn't actually about you. I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that older music holds an overall better standard than newer music, but 1) you haven't heard the majority of songs released over the last few years and 2) you obviously aren't looking enough if you can't find original music, because theres SO many original bands out there from the last decade. Here's my issue with your first statement, older music holds because it's been around a lot longer. You don't know where certain artists will be in 10/15 years and how their music will hold. I can make a few guesses that, not to be a prick, will more than likely hold true. But that's coming from a general understanding of knowing how artists really hold over time and don't disappear because they're not a Billboard band so to speak. Bands who aren't writing for hits but making full albums that hold weight will be the bands that people say are better than whats coming out currently when we're much older. I hate to write a giant paragraph, but saying older music holds better has no fact. Being about 10 years old doesn't compare to say a 40 year old Velvet Underground record. There's still people discovering Velvet Underground loving them. But there's how many bands listing them as influences influencing that choice to listen to them?
