But yes, this is one of many criticisms of Christianity. I know that many dispute the validity of it, but anyone interested in the origins of Jesus should check out the opening part of the movie 'Zeitgeist'. Gives a very interesting perspective on Christianity, although some of it should be taken with a pinch of salt because there's a bit of misinformation in there. A very interesting watch nonetheless.

It's not about the stories in it, or even if they're true. It's about the morale of the stories. You need to understand the meaning of them, it's all about bettering yourself as a person and treating people well. That's what the bible is all about.

The bible also condones slavery, sexism, homophobia among other ridiculous notions, and SPREADS them. Not attacking you personally at all, but I don't like people blindly praising the bible for being a 'moral guidebook'. If you don't know it's wrong to murder by your own moral consciousness, they quite frankly, you're a terrible human being. So no, the bible has very little bearing on bettering yourself.

I don't understand how Christianity is the only religion being referenced in this thread. The Jews read the old testament and the Qur'an has the same first five books as the Holy Bible.

It's weird that you can't get high these days and write a book and say God told you what to write...But back then, people were all for it. They just didn't know they were high. Ever read Revelations? Someone was on PCP when that story was written.

I love how its just cool to openly bash something that people might get upset about, such as religion. The topic started out ok but is slowly becoming what it always will when you start a topic like this. Part of me wants to give my view but I dont want to spend the next week trying to justify like I would be asked to do...which is why this is all a little foolish now.

I guess the homophobic stuff could be covered up by saying it was from an entirely different time. Not saying it's right, but the bible was wrote thousands of years ago. Homosexuality has only become accepted in recent years. I'm not entirely religious, I "believe" in God, but I don't live my life off the bible. It's all about changing yourself as a person for the better. You don't have to live off every word.

A group of men who thought writing a book of fictional tales was the best way to control people? Hell, I have no clue
