Ok, so the past 2 nights, the 2 deathnote movies have been on tv (loved them) so i looked them up and found out about this spin off with L.
Basically has anyone on here seen it? Is it any good and does it add anything more to the death note story, I know that it is meant to take place during his last 23 days
Thanks

It doesn't really add too much. Like you said, it's just about his final days. It's still worth your time to check out though, I'd say.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the Death Note storyline other than L about to die. It's pretty good for what it is though.
Anime is way better than the movies in my opinion.

In flashbacks I believe, but he's already dead by the time L begins his final days.

(I know you live across the pond, so would you mind telling me how much it is in US currency?) Regardless it's probably worth it, anything Death Note is good in my opinion, but yeah. Just curious. Haha.

I heard they are making a hollywood film. Some big production company bought the rights ( I think Warner Bros.).
I'm a little skeptical though because I'm a big fan of the series and I think Death Note is too good but too much to fit into 2 hours. That's why I thought the live action Japanese films --although it was two movies-- still didn't do the series much justice (No pun intended). They watered down the story a lot in the films to cut back on time. I HIGHLY recommend the anime. Me and ABCustoms were watching it back in the WF survivor chat room a while back.
Did you watch the english dubbed or subbed?

I did get confused near the end of the last name, with the real and fake death notes which ones were switched etc.
I watched the subbed version and raito i was there too haha team wai, but because of the time difference we were watching it like 4am my time, so i had it on as background noise and didnt pay much attention

Yeah I remember. I think you showed us battle royale as well?
Oh yeah I kind of remember that part. From what I remember, *SPOILERS* L told Watari to switch the notebook that Misa had with a fake one so obviously Light's dad didn't die when Light wrote his dad's name in the notebook. L had the real notebook and wrote his name his own name in it before Rem did so Rem writing in L's name didn't work because according to the rules if a person's name is written twice, the first writing will take effect.

What are the 2 anime movies like I don't remember there being any Anime movies. They could be spin-offs that I never heard of but I doubt it involves Light and L. The whole Anime is on Youtube in HD if you want to watch it. It's much deeper and grittier than the live-action films.

Never seen the live action films although my friend told me he saw the movie on TV and thought it was horrible. Ryuk's CGI was enough to put me off.
As for the anime, GREAT watch. As one of the few anime fans in my friendship group, I told a lot of my friends who previously hated anime to give the series a watch. Guess what, they were HOOKED. It's a great example of brilliant premise, storytelling and writing that a lot of the swordplay/ gun anime are missing. I highly doubt the film was able to capture half of the essence of the series simply due to how intricate the show is. It definitely climaxes about halfway through (obvious reasons. although Mello kicks ass). Give the anime a watch for sure, wonderful show.

Remember there were two notebooks-- the one ryuk dropped and the one Misa had. If I remember correctly they Police Task force knew about the first notebook but didn't know about the 2nd notebook until later so they had to switch to a fake one. I'm not sure, it's been a while since I've seen the live action movies. The endings to that and the anime are different--even the manga's ending is a little different. But I definitely think the anime has the best ending. Yeah, Ryuk and other shinigami's CGI was pretty horrible and I was like WTF when I heard the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the film. As for the Relights and it seems to be the whole Anime series in the point of Ryuk. hmm. I might have to get a hold of it. But yeah definitely go watch the original first. And this anime is a small minority in that the English Dub is as good as the japanese dubs.
