Thought i would make a topic in the lounge for a change. How many Credit Cards do you have? Also do you guys have a balance on them or are they paid off? i currently have 4 and 3 of them have high balances which i plan on paying off soon. The reason they are high is b/c i haven't started working yet and i put my laptop on one and had 0% interest for 24 months. The others i just charged things i wanted and now paying off. What are some things you use yours for also. I know some people only use them for online purchases, some only for gas. Discuss your credit card ventures.

I own two credit cards. One has a limit of 3,500 and I only owe about 100 dollars on it. Used it to buy a computer and surround sound back in August.
The second card has a limit of 600 and I owe 400 on it. Just got the card around November and used it for Black Friday shopping. I should have it all paid off within the next two months. I Just keep making the minimums and forgetting to just pay it all off.

I have one credit card. I treat it as a debit card, meaning I don't use it unless I have the money already in my account. I pay the balance off every month. I mainly use it to build up a credit score/history.

I have no credit cards and haven't had one (by choice) for close to 5 years and change now. If I have my way, I'll never have another one again. I also have no debt except my house which I love because I put money in my pockets at the end of the month instead of some big companies.

One of my biggest fears in life, no joke, is to be in debt that I cannot pay off. Every day I live in fear of being one of those people who die and leave their fifty some odd thousand dollars of debt to their next of kin. For that reason, I've never had a credit card, and never will so long as I can help it.

I have one outstanding but the last I hear the judge was not ruling in there favor due to the fact that it was only a 500 dollar card that I didnt even expend totally. There was a big thing about it, I called them 3 times a month, 3 months in a row trying to get my physical bill. They said it was all the post fault they stopped sending me my bill. Apparently didnt feel the same way about them coming after me for 1500 dollars after 4 years of collection companies and fees building up over what I had paid down to 300. All because I wouldnt give them my bank account to draw it directly out.
Oh well no matter, all we do in this world is find ourself constantly at odd with debts of some sort or another, even if its a debt of merely living in this world or country. I dont get my panties in a bunch anymore over it all.
honestly, I have had other card offers since then but have declined them all. Oh well haha

When I was 18, I had 15 or 16 with a limit from $300- $2,500. Then I got paranoid with the thought of identity theft, so I cancelled all but one. I now have 1 credit card with a limit of $7,500 which I rarely use.

I finally paid off mine about a year ago. My divorce racked up the bills really quickly, but I was really discplined and paid them off in a few years time. I cancelled all of the cards after paying them off, and don't plan on getting more.
I did make a small exception not too long ago, and I did finance my fiance's engagement/wedding ring. However, I have been making double and triple payments on it every month, and it should be paid off in just a couple of more months. a 2 year payment plan is going to take about 6 months.
Credit Card rates are completely ridiculous, and honestly, I don't recommend them to ANYONE unless absolutely necessary, especially to anyone under 30.

I have a credit card but I only use it on rare occasions to make sure that it doesn't get canceled. Then I pay it off right away when I get home before interest hits.
The only reason I have my credit card is in case of emergency.

Had 2. Both went overlimit - one by $400, the other by $600-$700....got them paid off, and I will NEVER have another one again, by choice or as long as I can help it. Closest thing I will ever use to one is a prepaid credit card, which you have to load before you can use. No overdrafting my card, no going into extreme debt.

But i recommend cutting them.....being u are young, out of work(from what u said), and u knows damn well u gonna use it on stupid things. credit cards are only good for if u have a mega emergency like life & death & etc..... i had 2 credit cards, and told this tooo many. u dont need more then 2, asking for more is like.......u will never pay it off. this how many get caught in the creditcard companies webs!

For that reason, I've never had a credit card, and never will so long as I can help it. It's a myth that you can inherit debt. Basically debt dies with you. Your estate basically stands for your debt. So worst case scenario is you're deeply in debt, you die, your creditors take your car, your house, the contents of your bank accounts and retirement funds and everything you've ever owned/accumulated in life. Your heirs get zippy. Which is kind of sad because after working your entire life you literally have nothing at all at the end of it. Anyway, I keep cash around in case of emergency. Much safer than a credit card. It actually earns me some money just sitting there and it took me long enough to accumulate that if something happens I'm not going to immediately dip into it for every BS "emergency" like I might with a credit card.

I have two cards no debt. Credit cards are absolutely amazing if you have self discipline and pay off your balance at the end of every month. I pay my cards off every month so I pay 0 interest and get 1% cash back on every single purchase which really adds up over time.

That's basically what I meant. I know that my family members wouldn't actually have to pay off my debts. It's just that Funerals are way expensive these days. I'd hate to see my family get left with jack sh** because I died with thousands of dollars of debt. Wouldn't it suck to have a great home, car, and life savings all absorbed into paying off debts instead of being able to leave them with your family?
