Does anyone know for sure which 'names' sell the best for non current wrestlers??
Obviously I'm assuming guys like the Rock, Stone Cold, Hogan sell well. But just got thinking in the other thread with people lining up their wish list for future waves in the Legends Line, is their any data to show which guys are big sellers vs slow movers? Maybe Jakks Classic data could be used as well to help determine future lines?

I Dont think Jakks Ever Posted their Sales Per WWF Classic Figure but HBK, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Warrior Have always Done Well, and Once People own those guys in their collection the other guys become more desirable
I Would Ask What Classics Figures Sold the Best for Jakks in the Jakks Forums

Heres a Good Way to Check
Count How Many of Each Guy they Released, they didnt put out more than one bruno sammartino because he didnt sell well, if he did , jakks would have put him in other series, 2 packs etc...
So count bret harts made, including excl , 2 packs, 3 packs etc.... count hbk's , undertakers, etc etc etc... obviously its not a good system to tell how some guys like papa shango or bam bam sold, cuz they sold very well but didnt have a second figure.... but you can tell who the blockbuster sellers were

Macho Man, Von Erichs?) or just didnt get a 2nd fig like you said it's not fool proof. I'm sure this has been said already repeated multiple times and I apologize but... Just seems like for as good of a job as Mattel is doing (quality and even wrestlers/attires selected thus far. Short hair Rude is one of my favorites and best they've done) they really should of made the first couple lines with bigger names that left open future pairings For example, have a Bret Hart 1997 era version in the first series or 2 then in series 3 when you release the Hart Foundation Bulldog and Pillman people who may have passed on them had you not made the more peopular Bret Hart first would be more inclined to complete the group, etc. Thus, increase sales for the slightly less popular. They did it well with DM1 Macho, by following that up with Warrior in DM 2. People may or may not have gotten one or the other but when they saw both are from the same match, more inclined to complete the set. That said....both those two guys probably sell just fine on their name alone.

I don't know how it's selling in stores (it isn't released in stores in the UK) but the online stores seem to have reduced it quite a lot already.

I don't know how it's selling in stores (it isn't released in stores in the UK) but the online stores seem to have reduced it quite a lot already. Yeah, I think similar to Legends series 1 it got overproduced after the initial buzz (being the first savage fig in forever, etc) and preorder sales. I also think mattel strategically made Savage the first figure in the DM line to capitalize on the higher price point and probably played a part in overproducing it as they thought it'd sell very well Now, I think it has sold a lot and very well but announcing the release of another macho that is cheaper and in a more iconic attire before everyone scooped up the DM Macho may have shot themselves in the foot a little bit. (that's all my speculation fyi) Because so many are available in stores online retailers marked down the price to stay competitive. I know, Kmart was loaded up on them. The DM Shawn Michaels isn't real hard to find but you aren't seeing as many on the shelf as the Macho Man.

I think the announcement of the legends Macho before most got their DM Macho did indeed hurt the DM sales. I bought both, but I like the tri-star Macho much more, and I kinda wish I didn't buy the DM Macho or DM Warrior (with the upcoming release of the Wrestlemania 6 Warrior).
I think this could be why I didn't want to get the 2-pack of Volkolv and Sheik. I had just bought the more intricately painted legends version of Sheik, which made the 2-pack feel as if I was really paying $30 for one figure.

Basically, big names sell. Austin, Rock, Hogan, Flair, Hart etc....here's the catch though...The price has to be reasonable (see DM Savage, waaaayyy too expensive) and you cant over produce/repaint/rerelease the same figure over and over (See Jakks Flabby Flair with black trunks)
