His jeans look wouldn't have been too bad if he wouldn't have tucked his jeans into his socks. That looked silly. I'm pretty sure "badasses" don't tuck pants into their socks. Granted, they don't generally wear spandex with the Union Jack on them either...

I'm not going to call anyone a name or mock them for their age, but as an older fan: You definitely have a better sense of perspective regarding old footage, looks, storylines, matches, gimmicks, etc. than you would if you were a younger fan and watched something old for the first time.
Again, not saying that's good or bad, or that old people are smarter, or anything like that. Just saying, when you see all this stuff as it's happening -- and you live in that time period, interact with other fans to see their reactions, go through the same thought process any fan does when following a career in progress -- you tend to have a better grasp on what it all meant, when you look back on it, then someone who wasn't there, but watched the same footage for the first time years later.
Here's an example: I was an avid fan from about 1984 onward, but I lived in an area that only got WWF and Jim Crockett wrestling on TV. Therefore, I feel my perspective is better on that era of WWF and NWA/WCW because I experienced it within that time frame.
Although I read all about World Class, the UWF and the AWA via the magazines, I don't believe I have the same grasp on those territories, even though I was following them during the same period of time. I didn't see a lot of it until years later, so I have no first-hand perspective on what it all meant at the time, other than what I read (which was someone else's opinion anyway).

WWE wanted to have him look the part for the Attitude era, I'm guessing.

I rate bulldog so highly and i hate the way WWF made him look in 1999, infact i hated the way WWE made DDP look in 2001, Vader look in late 97/early 98, Mr Perfect look in 2002 amongst others.
Its a damn shame

When you're around, you tend to appreciate it more than just viewing stuff on the 'net. As he stated, yes Bulldog did need a revival. However, jeans weren't the way to go. Obviously, you can tell now it did nothing to his career. Im willing to guess if you asked anyone how they remember the bulldog, they won't say in jeans..They'll tell you either the classic pants or the union jackers. -3L Exactly, looking stuff up on the next is not the same as being around when it happened. It's just not. Saying you hate his tights look means you hated 95% of his career and only liked him when he was a glorified jobber with nu-metal music. Also lets stop with the name calling little boy. "little boy" hah, how you can post on a wrestling figure message board, and say that... wow, way to perceive things. Anyways, as 3lephant intelligently, pointed out. Seeing it live or first-hand, is completely different than watching it later in life, after the fact. Your argument is still flawed though. Tights and or really any attire have no bearing in how a character/wrestler/entertainer performs. As proven by the guy in your sig. I liked the Big Bossman too, my first glimpse of wrestling, at least as a fan was in 98 or 99. So I can't respect his work because he was just a supporting character most of the time? Please, I replied simply stating that I had no problem with the jean look. Sure there's been a lot of responses stating the obvious, it was less about a rugged look, he came off as one-dimensional. But I don't pay that much attention to a look, I appreciate wrestling. Stuff like Stan Hansen and I wanna say either Terry Gordy or Bruiser Brody vs Dynamite & Davey Boy Smith in Japan. To bad some dumb ass deleted the topic and replies I had posted it in and I never got around to downloading it just uploaded it from a DVD I borrowed of a friend's. I honestly can't see how someone like yourself, goes around and assumes that all wrestling fans are the same. Honestly, it's the fans like you that ashame me. Because you judge what I know and don't even know me personally, and right away you have some image in your mind like I'm one of the millions of guppies that WWE draws in for their lackluster live events.

Better than ing stupid braided hair. Easy there, that was the coolest thing he had in 92. The braids with the England flag colors was unique and cool. As for the jeans I guess they wanted to change his look. He did wear the tights in WCW but I guess WWF wanted to move bulldog's look with the attiude era. It's clear that wasn't the way to go..

Yeah, I always thought the braided hair looked cool. My favorite Davey "look" would be the short hair cut with long pants though. As for the jeans, I agree with the guys here, they tried to make him look "Attitude". Hated it though.

Mr Perfect look in 2002 amongst others. ...there's a difference? not in terms of attire, as in their push.

www.onlineworldoWe spam!/pictures/d/daveyboysmith/18.jpg[/img] That was Davey at his best. . . that was he greatest look. PERIOD. His body was at its best (all be it w/ the roids) the braids were flowwing, nice extra fringe going on. . . . SOLID!! www.onlineworldoWe spam!/pictures/b/britishbulldogs/02.jpg[/img] I give the Bulldog tag team era 2nd place. I could never understand why they left the WWF. . . I still don't know what was the reason. . . but they were the poopy. They had so many more great fueds in them. . . Demo's, Busters, PoP, maybe in a heel turn and rematch versus the Hart's. www.onlineworldoWe spam!/pictures/o/owenbulldog/03.jpg[/img] This is third for me. When I got back to watching back in 96 (I had been gone for two to three years) Davey had cut all his hair off, he had lost a lot of girth, and was wearing trunks. I hated it at first, then I got used to it but never really embraced it. He & Owen together were great. www.onlineworldoWe spam!/pictures/d/daveyboysmith/06.jpg[/img] This is just crap. Unfortunately I remember it, but not much b/c I refused to watch it. Davey wrestling in street clothes was just g@y. And for all the newbs around here saying that Davey was best in those jeans. . . . this pic says it all. . . . . how will he be remembered? Well as far as the WWE/F is concerned. . he'll be remembered like this. . . www.onlineworldoWe spam!/pictures/d/daveyboysmith/16.jpg[/img] Damn, I hope others can see those b/c I can't. . . let me know.

I can't either. Anyway the Bulldog looked ing stupid with those jeans on. He was his best at his match with Bret Hart in England. I dug the beads on the end of the hair. And tights. A hell of alot better then those stupid jeans tucked into his shoes (why the hell does HBK do that crapto sometimes?)

He looks real cool like this Compaired to this? I don't think so. He had a gimmick with the second pic. The 1st one looks like he just came off the streets abd took his shirt off. He looks 1000x better in the second pic. I am sorry.
