Does any one actually think Bret would have shown up on WCW TV with the WWF title, not a chance in hell would this have happened. You might be correct, but if you're Vince McMahon, do you really take that chance at a time when your company legitimately looks on the verge of serious trouble? Mick Foley and others have said in the years since then that the WWF was in far bigger financial trouble in this era than anyone realized at the time (remember, they weren't a publicly-traded company then, so it's very likely the true seriousness of the WWF's financial troubles was only known to the WWF inner circle). When you're running a company, you simply can't take everyone at their word. You're a bad boss if you leave something like that to a "handshake." Sorry, but Vince was right to take the safe route, even if Bret's reputation was one of honor.

It's funny you mention this, the gf and I are planning to watch the DVD on Monday night, since this coming week marks 10 years ago since the Screwjob took place.
I can sit here forever and debate on the subject but it's been debated beyond to death. I will say this: I find it very odd that only ONE WWE DVD release has the complete match: Best of Confidential Vol. 1. Wonder if this makes the DVD go any higher in market value.

I've said it before; both men have faults in this situation. Vince should've just come clean and said "Bret...I know this is in Canada but I need you to drop the belt to Shawn". Hell he could've even found a way for bret to lose the belt and still not be pinned by Shawn if he really wanted to. Bret should've dropped the belt no matter what really. I never thought about this, but he really should have. In the end both men shouldn't have been so childish and been more professional about the situation and talked about it. The only guy that kind of did the right thing was Shawn and I'm not even a fan of his. He's been a man about it and has since apoligized and has even come out and said "hey, what the boss wanted, he got". Why would one of the top superstars in the buisness at the time say "yeah...no I'm not going to do this because it isn't ethical" and possibly ruin his push. It was a job he had to do and he did it. Nothing was really wrong on his part. In the end it was Vince and Breats fault.

To this day, I still think it was a work. It was a way for Bret to drop the title without losing cleanly to HBK, a way to make HBK a huge heel who would eventually lose the title to Austin, and a way for Bret to enter WCW as a mega babyface. I wouldve though it was a work had he not gone to WCW. Why would WWE plan that just to let him jump ship there and help his babyface status? Vince claimed he could no longer honor the money he agreed to pay Bret. Both parties agreed to terminate the contract and allow Bret to goto WCW to make more money, while Vince tried to work with what he had. The saddest part of that is the real screw job was what Vince told Bret about the money situation. Cuz about 6 months later, he spent millions to bring Mike Tyson in as a special enforcer. Waste of money when we could have had Bret Hart. As far as the finish for SS.......Bret Hart should have dropped the title as instructed and not turn this into a big issue. Vince did what he thought was best for his company that was losing a lot of money at the time. You cant blame the man.

There is 0% chance that it was a work. The WWF was going down at the time. With his biggest star jumping ship, why would Vince give WCW leverage with the Bret Hart character? He wouldn't, therefore, no work.
