A bunch of teams are interested in Oswalt, but Oswalt said he wasn't getting enough money from the offers he saw, and is going to wait til the all-star break to sign with a team. Bold strategy. Always liked Oswalt, he has been a great pitcher who has never gotten run support.

I dunno about that strategy with Oswalt....I mean, Roger Clemens did it with the Astros and Yankees, but I don't really see Roy Oswalt as the type of guy who can sit out half a year and then "come to the rescue" of a team that's on the cusp of the Playoffs.
And if he's not getting enough money now, what does he think he's going to get in July when half the season is over? Sucks that he's willing to sit out because the money isn't right.
It at least changes MY opinion about a guy when a person with millions and millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars would rather NOT PLAY a all than to take a "low offer" like $5 million to play baseball, which is rumored what the Reds, Cardinals and Rangers were wanting to pay him.

Some of those guys are washed up and their careers are over. Some of them surprise. Oswalt is probably the most surprising as he's not that old and didn't have a horrible season last year even with all the injuries. I'm surprised he doesn't sign a 1 year incentive laden deal. Teams are always looking for pitching and he could easily be a 3-4 guy even if he has an off year and a 1-2 guy if he miraculously bounces back to full form.

Roy Oswalt, he is such a pain in the balls for all this. Clemens was one of the best, Oswalt is not.

Clemens was hopped up on 'roids. Oswalt presumably is not. So he's most likely not going to be his normal self whether he comes back now or at the all star break.
I hate to agree with Lorenzo, but I also am baffled why anyone in their right mind would not take $5 mil a year to play baseball. Oswalt has made somewhere in the area of $90 mil over his career. I'd give both of my nuts for the chance to play professional ball for $5 mil even if I knew it was just for one season and I'd have to play with Carlos Ruiz. I'd still do it.

Some decent players still on the free agent market. Does every MLB team think that they have better players in ever spot than adding one of these guys? Or are these guys not ready to accept that they are declining and refusing to take a lower paycheck to reflect their lowering production? Are these older, or injured, free agents now just playing the waiting game to see when a team suffers an injury? Or who on this list of guys do you think is done and will never play another MLB game? Derek Lee Johnny Damon Hideki Matsui Pudge Rodriguez Vlad Guerrero Roy Oswalt Javier Vazquez Brandon Webb I know Webb is rehabbing, but I'm surprised no team wants Damon, and I'm really surprised no team really was that interested in Oswalt, unless he just wants too much money? Lee: Plenty of young, cheap, prime 1B talent out there Damon: Useless outside Yankee Stadium Matsui: See Johnny Damon Ivan Rodriguez: Too old. Could probably back up Joe Mauer in Minnesota and thats about it Guerrero: Should call it a career Oswalt: Asking too much for an injury-prone SP Vasquez: Retiring. Could only pitch in the NL Webb: Finished

Come on we need 5 more guys for fantasy baseball! You don't want me. I'm too busy and would end up being the Pittsburg Pirates of the league.

Anyone else not like the new playoff format?
[Probably already talked about, but I don't live in the Sports board and I don't feel like looking for it, LoL]

Anyone else not like the new playoff format? [Probably already talked about, but I don't live in the Sports board and I don't feel like looking for it, LoL] I like the new format, but they totally ED it up for 2012 and it might end up costing a team their season. Because they added the new Playoff format so late, the scheduling was a little messed up because they didn't have enough days.... So the WILD CARD TEAM now starts at home for 2 games, and then they go to the Division winners home for 3. SO the Wild Card team gets two GUARANTEED home games, while the Division winner only gets one. That's really messed up. The DS will be back to 2-2-1 in 2013 though....but for 2012, they better hope that this doesn't screw anything up. Imagine the Yankees losing two road games to start the DS when they SHOULD have started with 2 HOME games. That would piss me off.

Yeah maybe it's just because of the 2 guaranteed home games for the lower seeded team that I don't like....hopefully it doesn't cost a team a playoff series..

Anyone else not like the new playoff format? [Probably already talked about, but I don't live in the Sports board and I don't feel like looking for it, LoL] It was hashed over a few pages back. 'Zo thinks it's awesome as he thinks it's "unfair" that division winners get ousted out of the playoffs by WC teams just because the WC team happens to play better.

And in more ridiculous news. David Robertson fell down a flight of stairs and hurt his right foot. X-Rays were negative but he's going for an MRI to make sure there is no internal damage. He is in a walking boot.

He is in a walking boot. We need designated walkers. Teams don't pay these guys millions of dollars so they can get injured walking down a flight of stairs.
