Both are referenced as the "high poing" of WCW. So which was the biggest?

I think Sting, it was build over for such a long time, even though the match wasn't good it had such a great build to it and Bret Hart came to WCW at this time which makes it even better.

True, but it only got a 17,000 in the audience. Hogan/Goldberg got 40,000!

I'll say Starrcade '97 just because of the horribly botched finish.

I'm going to say vs. Goldberg because the match was booked very well and the right thing was done for the business. Why they didn't save it for PPV is beyond stupid.
The Sting match was just overbooked and had a terrible finish.

Sting
the build up was brilliant, it really was considering it was wcw who liked to rush most things
++ Starcade > Nitro

I guess vs Sting. I just hated how it was hyped for a full year for one match that ended up being terrible. Goldberg/Hogan is over-rated. Only thing that made that match was the crowd. Had it taken place anywhere else, it would've been half of that.

i personally, was more hyped to see goldberg run through hogan than i was to seeing another so called 'classic'. i had enough of hogan in wcw after his match with ric flair.

Sting by far...No match had that much build up that i can remember. The finish could have been better but still one of his best matches ever. Only thing that hurts Hogan vs Goldberg is the fact that the reaction wouldnt have been the same had Goldberg beaten Hogan say in Philadelphia or San Francisco, It was booked to happen in Goldbergs home town and back yard. Thats the reason it got as big of a pop as it did

Hogan vs. Sting, easily, IMO. Why? Because WCW spent almost a year building up that feud and taking their time with it. Seeing Sting going from the "surfer" Sting with the shorter, blonde hair to trading in his bright colors and bright colored face paint for black and white and growing his hair out dark... it was just so badass. Not even the WWF/E has been able to build to a match like that.
