yeah,the Slaughter thing was Hogan's idea for a few months there...suppossedly he and Vince came up with the Iraqi Sympathizer angle, with the idea to build it up to WM VII with the "American Hero" Hogan defending the integrity of the USA against the turncoat... HOWEVER, the political maneuvering came about with Hogan convincing Vince to give Slaughter the belt to make it a World Championship match,and therefore the Main Event (and get the focus back on Hogan) , rather than the original plan of it being an undercard match and the REAL Main Event being WWF World Champion The Ultimate Warrior vs Randy Savage.... at least that's what i've heard.... Although I liked how Wrestlemania VII turned out. It would have been a much more powerful moment if Sherry turned on Randy Savage after he would have lost the WWF championship. I'd understand more that Randy had lost everything, and she wanted no part of him. Speaking of, since I don't really remember. What happened to Sherry after she turned on Macho? Who did she end up managing afterwards? Dibiase then HBK. |

Who did she end up managing afterwards? it would have been more powerful,but i'm not quite sure how well it would end the show,per se, as far as elevating Warrior.... whether they kept the career-ending match angle or not, if he was still booked to lose to Warrior,and warrior then successfully defended his title,AND they still kept the Sherri turning on Savage/reunion with Elizabeth, it would've KILLED all heat Warrior had,as the show would've ended NOT with Warrior triumphant, Belt raised over his head in victory,but rather with Elizabeth coming to Savage's aid, and them tearfully reuniting and Savage turning back to a face again...the ending of the PPV would've been all about Savage,rather than the Champion....Warrior would've been upstaged again,just like WM VI where they spent half the time on Hogan as he was leaving after his defeat.... unless they still planned to end the show with Hogan-Slaughter,no matter what... |

As predictable as it was to see Hogan beat Slaughter for the belt to end the show, that's the only way it could of ended. Now it could of been someone else like Perfect or Undertaker who beat Warrior at the rumble to face Hogan. I'd say you could replace Hogan with another Face but I don't even think there was anyone else on that main event level to make it feel legit, granted slaughter wasn't either at the time.
Then again if Slaughter wasn't champion that would take away some of his heat for his match vs Hogan. hmm
The build up for the Warrior/Savage feud was so great I wouldn't change a thing about it or it's placement on the card. Savage costing Warrior the title at the Royal Rumble was a big role in intensifying the feud and making that match "mean more then the title belt" by having a retirement match which was a rare stipulation for the time.

Something really weird, but yeah, I guess this is just like a bad show having great ratings.

I don't think the card was weak at all in any point and the main event was EPIC !

one of the high points for me was seeing Hawk and Animal smash the crap out of Power and Glory to set them up as the main threat to The Nasty Boys who had just won the title.
very similar to WM6 when The Harts smashed the Bolsheviks to set themselves up as 1# Contenders.
