I hate to break it to you, but the colonists thumbing their nose at King George was also disrespectful. Nothing necessarily wrong with being disrespectful towards a country that you hate. Just don't get pissed off when people point out that you're being disrespectful. You hate the US. You hate the soldiers. You hate the country. Fine. Go move. I hate the "Love it or leave it" mentality. That mentality is virtually everywhere in Australia, which is a shame...I don't like that mentality either.

Same here. I would love to leave this sh*t hole in a heartbeat if I could afford it. But I can't, so how exactly am I supposed to "leave it" if I can't afford to? Unfortunately I'm stuck here and there's nothing I can do about it. I've never seen anywhere where it's expensive to emigrate. How is it any more expensive to move from the US to some other country than it is to move within the US? Edit: I just went to the web site for Canadian Immigration. I ran their test. You have to get a 67 to qualify to apply. I got an 84 and that is assuming I got a job offer in Canada. No money is needed other than what would be needed to move there. And how much do you think it would cost to move there?

While I hate the "love it or leave it" mentality, I also hate that excuse, only because I've heard it just as many times as "love it or leave it". "Oh, I would.........if I could." Well it's true though.

the idea of a daily pledge of allegiance is stupid. i would do it, mumbling quietly usually while i was in school, just cause i'd rather not be a tool and angrily sit down in protest. i just don't care.

They have a right not to stand, and the other people have a right to criticize that decision. That's what free speech is all about, everyone gets their say.

If you're the kind of person who is discouraged from doing what you believe in because others may disapprove/make you feel bad, then you either don't really believe in it or shouldn't be demonstrating that belief.

Ever think that maybe people don't want to say it because "one nation under god" may go against their own religious beliefs? I'm an atheist, I don't believe in god. Therefore, I'm not "under god." Why should I say it, if I don't believe in it? You want to know who's really the P.O.S in this situation? You are. For trying to talk down to people who have different opinions than your's.

You pack your crap and you go. It's not like it costs a bajillion dollars. I have no clue what state you live in, but it's no more expensive to move to Canada than it would be to move to another state. Where is the extra expensive coming from? Have you priced how much it costs to move to Canada? If not, how can you say you can't afford it?

In my high school, the pledge was always led during the announcements, which came at 5th period. My math teacher always told us - "If you don't want to say the pledge, that's your business. All I ask, is that you please stand up during it."

I have family that have died for this country, "one nation under god" is such a dumb ing argument. just take the 30 seconds out of your day and stand for the damn pledge if that one phrase means that ing much to ya.

There are better ways to honor soldiers and vets than standing for some pledge.

i want to add a little story to this thread..
while at work about a month ago... i had a former regular customer come in... dressed head to toe in band new fatigues.. said customer used to be fairly nice, respectful and kinda quiet.. he is now walking around.. being VERY loud.. and obnoxious... once he gets to the cash wrap to pay for his girlfriends stuff.. he is very quick to make sure we know he is in the military and that he gets his discount... ok sure.. no problem.. there is your 10% savings... but then for some reason goes on to tell my associate and myself , that because he is in the military.. has been shot.. stabbed.. and nearly blown up.. he IS better than us..... at that point.. i didnt say an other word to him... and wont...
i know he is part of a very very very low percentage of people who think like that.. just because you have served doesnt make you better than anyone else... YES i believe the people that do go off and unselfishly serve are better than myself.. but anyone who EXPECTS recognition for doing so ... is not.... i have had many friends.. a few familiy members and acquaintances serve.. and i have the utmost respect for all of them...
for some reason.. that story connects to this one to me... as a kid i always stood for the pledge.. now that im an adult.. not really my cup of tea... i love my country.. respect its military.. but standing for an outdated pledge doesnt nullify how i feel and it shouldnt..
