Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre? Not so fast.
It appears the UFC has switched gears away from the proposed super fight and opted to put middleweight champion Anderson Silva in against the last man to technically hold a win over him, Yushin Okami, at the UFC event in Brazil in August.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the bout to USA Today on Wednesday.
Yushin Okami earned a title shot at the champion by defeating Nate Marquardt last year, but after Silva dispatched of Vitor Belfort in February, most thought the next fight on the horizon for the sport’s pound-for-pound best was a match-up against St-Pierre.
St-Pierre of course still has a fight coming up at UFC 129 against Jake Shields, and it seems if he’s going to fight Silva it’s going to be further in the future.
Okami gets his second shot at Silva after an illegal upkick from the Brazilian brought an abrupt end to their first fight at Rumble on the Rock in 2006. After being taken down by Okami early in the fight, Silva launched a head kick that clocked the Japanese fighter, and he was unable to continue.
Okami was declared the winner, and that was the last time Silva had a blemish on his record. Now they will look to settle the score once and for all.

I always said that if Vitor couldn't do it, then no one in the UFC currently at middleweight could do it. So this fight does not excite me.

Okami deserves it.
Whether he has a chance is another story, but he deserves it.

Read/listen to all the recent interviews he's done.

Read/listen to all the recent interviews he's done. Are you talking about him saying he needs to add the weight in muscle? That is legit dude, it would take a bit of time I think. Jake is the end of the line for GSP, if he beats him I think he will move up.

He looks fine. He doesn't need to build TOO MUCH muscle if he already walks around 195-200lbs.

The fight will happen, what's left for either of them? GSP more so, if he beats Jake he will have cleaned out the division. Maybe Condit should get a shot who knows though? Silva atleast has a rematch with Chale, but Chale has to get through his problems first. There really is NOTHING left for either man.

agree with Kliquid and James...
Okami definitely deserves it. The guys only losses are to Franklin and Sonnen. His hands have looked excellent as of late and he has good wrestling. But I still think Silva wins this. No way will he pull some sh** he did against Maia. This being in Rio means we see some more Bruce Lee sh** from the spider.
It is a damn shame that GSP vs. Silva will never materialize. Seems like we have been talking about this fight for two years. It really does seem like GSP is reluctant to fight Silva. He said he needs time to add muscle....Silva said he would meet him at a catchweight...so there are no excuses.

It probably will materialize, here is the real question though. Why should GSP meet him at a catchweight? Let's say GSP beats Sheilds... and gives up the WW title. Anderson beats Yushin and the super fight is confirmed.. GSP moves up and fights Anderson the MW title. The logical thing to do would be to move GSP up and give him the next title shot due to him cleaning out all the guys at 170. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIFE AFTER JAKE FOR GSP AT 170. No one has answered that yet.

The point is that Anderson said he would cater to GSP saying that they could do a catchweight and it could be 5 rounds. , Silva even said he'd go to welterweight to fight him. Come on, bro.

again....James knows what's up.
You say nothing is left for GSP at WW (and everyone knows that) but when the superfight is brought up GSP says there are still a lot of challenges at WW.....
the only challenge for GSP after Shields would be diaz.

You are talking about Nick right? Not Nate? Because that depends on how long the Showtime deal is for. After that deal is up I think we all know Strikeforce is getting the axe. We will see the superfight. GSP has always seemed to be a humble person. He knows damn well there is no one left.

That'd be pretty cool, but I don't see Okami winning in any way, shape or form...Silva will avenge his loss and then some...

I've never seen or read Silva say he'd fight GSP at Welterweight. Some of you guys are way too harsh on GSP ("he's scared" - honestly... ). Only he knows how the extra weight would affect him and how long it would take him to bulk-up to fight Silva properly. And there are still guys like Condit, Sanchez and eventually Diaz he can fight at WW, if he wants to stay there. Of course Silva's more up for the fight against the smaller, lighter guy - it's funny how you don't see him calling out Jon Jones though (in a weight he's already fought at)...

Steve, I hate you sometimes mate, you say all the thinks I want to say, but actually word it how it should be. I think I'll just let you type my opinions out from now on, there always the bloody same, to sum it up. Agreed. LOL!

Before and after UFC 112 he has been saying he'll go down to 170 to make the fight happen. I find it funny how Anderson will be fine with going up AND down in weight and is even willing to meet GSP at 178lbs, but GSP is hesitant to even think about it.
