They really messed up with the story lines I think. NWO Black And White, NWO Red And Black, NWO Red Black & White, Chucky, The Ultimate Warrior.
I dont think I enjoyed one PPV from 1999
Although alot of the storylines in 2000 sucked, I did enjoy most the wrestling. The roster was pretty good

Having Goldberg lose when he did was a pretty bad move.
Not pushing the younger guys was a bad move.
Turner Officials not letting Russo or Bischoff do anything risky was also bad.

Same problem with TNA, Vince Russo. Now enough wrestling, too much terrible stuff. They wanted to make it more like a tv drama than wrestling, but it was terrible drama. And on the deaths, I don't blame the company. Personal choices cause most wrestler deaths.

They got stuck in a time warp. They made themselves the No.1 group by being fresh and then ruined it by focusing on NWO well past it's sell by date, relying too heavilly on the older guys who were past it & no longer attracting the fans.

The only real reason WCW doesn't exist anymore is because of the AOL/Time Warner merger. The new head of Turner didn't want wrestling at all, so all the blame rests on him.

They made themselves the No.1 group by being fresh and then ruined it by focusing on NWO well past it's sell by date, relying too heavilly on the older guys who were past it & no longer attracting the fans. You also have to give some of the blame to the performers they were focusing on -- the Kevin Nash's, Lex Luger's, Hulk Hogan's, etc. It was pretty rare for guys like that to have a truly awesome match that justified why WCW wanted us to accept them as the top dogs. It was hard to watch all the midcard guys and cruiserweights having amazing matches night after night and then have WCW ask us to view the old guys who didn't care anymore as the best in the company. Our own eyes told a different story. WCW simply had a terrible main event scene for years, with the exception of a decent match here or there. Here's all the WCW midcard guys physically showing us why they rule by putting on great matches, and then here are a bunch of main eventers that squash the midcarders in storylines and then spend 20 minutes hanging out the ring telling us how much they rule... because lord knows they're incapable of SHOWING us.

There are other reasons, like guys like Hogan not willing to make young guys into stars, and the horrible booking turning fans away to the point they had to give away tickets to shows.

Those thing caused the show to get stale, but they were still getting 2.0-3.0 ratings for Nitro. When they closed, they were probably the highest rating programming on TNT/TBS besides basketball and baseball.

Those thing caused the show to get stale, but they were still getting 2.0-3.0 ratings for Nitro. When they closed, they were probably the highest rating programming on TNT/TBS besides basketball and baseball. But they were also bleeding money badly, and were not even close to turning a profit anymore. They were seriously in the hole financially, so even if TNT/TBS wanted to keep them around, it was only a matter of time before they pulled the plug or sold WCW anyway. When you lose millions every year, there comes a year when the corporation won't want your product on the books anymore, making your bottom line look worse than it otherwise would. Remember, these people had to answer to stockholders, too. I'm sure a lot of the stockholders weren't too impressed with the number of WCW wrestlers that were paid six figures a year to sit home and not even show up to the TV tapings. WCW had so many guys under contract that rarely even made it to TV, let alone the high-priced guys that gave lazy performances on TV every week.
