I guess this particular year I would pick Starrcade. I think in the 80's the general way things went was that a particular years Starrcade probably had superior wrestling and action. Wrestlemania, on the other hand, was a superior spectacle. Wrestlemania 1 has very little to offer on the wrestling side of things. It was just the style of the WWF then. There were a lot of guys on Wrestlemania 1 who had had many memorable matches while in the NWA, they just toned it down a lot once they switched teams. I mean, this Wrestlemania had Steamboat,Valentine, Rotundo, Windham, Santana, and Piper on it, but no real great matches. Kind of a shame. Magnum TA vs. Tully Blanchard is reason enough why Starrcade was better this year.

I still think the first WM was a flat out joke. If they would've spent my time on wrestling rather than celebrities, it may have been better. Looking at Starrcade, it was clearly above and beyond WM as far as actual WRESTLING.

^Yeah, Wrestlemania, the first, was pretty horrid. None of the matches were anything special and everything was about the special guests like nWowolfpac stated.

Definitely like to see a Ric Flair main event over a Hulk Hogan Mr. T tag match. You know you're actually getting wrestling with Flair.

Starrcade had Ronnie Garvin in drag... So I don't know how I feel about that...
I guess I'll say that Starrcade had better matches, but Wrestlemania was an event... I mean, people may look at it now and say it wasn't good, but all those things that people insult are what made it huge, and the reason that Wrestlemania is still the top ppv.
So my vote goes to Mania, because of what it created.

Unfortunately I never saw Starcade 85 so I can't decide.
Wrestlemania wasn't great wrestling-wise. But it was a good spectacle and I wouldn't call it a bad event.

Starrcade 85 is one of the best wrestling shows I've ever seen. WrestleMania has it's historical signifigance but it's hardly a great "wrestling" show. So my pick is Starrcade 1985. Come to think of it WM wasn't really a great wrestling show until around VII or VIII.
